  1. So often I hear Nebraska fans use the "geographically disadvantaged" excuse. Starkville and Oxford are just two more examples of places where kids are willing to go, due to the respective programs having excellent coaches and recruiters.

    Lets take a look at the past ten national title teams in order from the most recent;

    Florida State

    Alabama

    Alabama

    Auburn

    Alabama

    Florida

    LSU

    Florida

    Texas

    USC

What do they all have in common? The states all have coastlines with a warm year around climate, and the five states all rank in the top seven in the graph Abdullah the Butcher provided (maybe not the most reliable). Geography plays a huge role, in the fact that the state of Mississippi is sandwiched in the middle of Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida. Weirdly enough, Colorado, Wyoming, Iowa, and Missouri schools don't seem to be anywhere on the list of National Title teams since... 1990. In the past 24 years one state that touches Nebraska has won a national championship. Name another national title winning team to come from a state that touches Nebraska. This forces Nebraska to recruit kids from California to Texas to Florida, as there clearly isn't enough talent in the immediate region. With a coach like Pelini, who is a mediocre recruiter, it makes it tough to entice young 17 and 18 year olds, in the age of social media, to come to Nebraska.

Also, the SEC has the ability to recruit more efficiently today because they have won 7 of the last 8 national titles. Pelini can't walk into a recruits home and say; "We play against the best competition game in and out." Instead he has to say; "You would look good in a Nebraska jersey as we beat cream-puff A, B, and C." Recruiting is half of the equation, while coaching is the other. You have to be able to persuade a good coach and staff first, then have that staff recruit quality kids to fit their system and style. We have recruited many five stars. It would be interesting to know the reasons they did not choose to come. My guess is if you took the Nebraska facilities, campus, and stadium and placed them in Starkville, MS, our recruiting would only get better.

  2. I would like to add, that at least Beck is willing to take those shots downfield! Whether the pass is completed or not, it makes the defense reconsider bringing their safeties up. Shawn Watson wouldn't even take a damn shot! Beck is getting this thing going. I got a feeling he has a plan at the QB position too. I don't know how long Martinez will be the man for his offense.

When we get another quarterback with the athleticism of Taylor, passing or running skills, then talk about how long he will be the man for this offense. When you find the new man, please inform me

  3. There are plenty of bars near 3rd and grand. The Cowboy, 3rd street bar, Love joys, and the Buck (which i would stay away from). They are quite aways from the staduim though. Tailgating isnt that big before games in Laramie. The main T.G. is just due east of the staduim and in the grassy area on Grand and 20th(?) or just south of the staduim. Hope everyone enjoys the trip, i'll be wearing red as a UW student!

  4. Also Virginian, do you know of any good places to fish around Laramie? I did a little bit of google research and I found a couple of places but I was wondering if you knew where the best spots might be at

West of Laramie in the Snowy Range and East of Laramie in the Medicine Bow National Forest. There's a lot of fly fishing opportunities. Give these guys a call. The West Laramie Fly Store will give you the inside scoop. http://flystore.net/

Go to Kurt Gowdy(spelling) i worked near there for a day or two and there were fishers galore

  5. Scout it by far the worst of the recruiting analysis sites. Tyler Moore is a lock for a 5 star and the way it looks they have Aaron Green hovering at a high 4 star. I don't even visit their site anymore.

Aaron won't be close to 5 stars when the rankings come out. Rivals listed him as 8th in Texas. Because his Jr season was plagued with injuries he went from being a top15 player to a player in the 50-80 range.

They are saying there is a legit chance that there are 4-6 running backs will be ranked with 5 stars. Crowell, Brown, Green, Sims, B. Williams, and Bergeron all have a good chance.

I dont care what they say, Aaron Green is the best back in the nation.

He dropped in the Texas Top 100 because they know that it is very possible that he will never attend The University of Texas.

Would he be the best back in the country if we werent going for him, and have a pretty decent shot at him? I think he looks to be a great one, but lets let it all play out. Rankings jump tremondously in a years time.

  6. My favorites?

    Cooper, Corey

    Carnes, Brion

    Marsh, Bronson

    Bell, Kenny

    Heard, Braylon

    Hardrick, Jermarcus

    David, Lavonte

    Harper, Chase

    Cotton, Jake

    Okuyemi, Tobi

    Mitchell, Joshua

    Guy, Jay

    Enunwa, Quincy

    Rome, Chase

    Evans, Ciante

    Ashburn, Walker

    Jackson, Harvey

    Vestal, Donovan

    Evans, Tyler

    Moudy, Mike

    Rodriguez, Andrew

Out of that whole list, i couldnt take my eyes off of cottons name. With all the thoughts running through my head about him being the next great nebraska lineman.

  10. So in my standard daily activities of stalking Owa, I noticed just how good Oregon's class could be if all the kids considering them in their final schools choose the Ducks.

    Owa - 5 :star DE - O in final 3

    Anthony Jefferson - 4 :star DB - O in final 3

    Erick Dargan - 4 :star DB - O in final 3

Lache Seastrunk - 5 :star RB - O in final 3 (thanks girlknowsfootball)

Oregon is also very close to Gabe King (6.0 4 :star DE) and some Oregon fans think they still have a shot at Dillon Baxter. Apparently they are telling Baxter he can play QB....I just heard he reaffirmed his commitment to USC though so I think that is out of the question. Marcus Lattimore (5 :star RB) also has Oregon in his final 5 or 6, although some say he is an Auburn lean.

These guys would join the already 8 4 :star kids currently committed. Other things to note, only 9 are on the defensive side of the ball (2 4 :star s - DB/LB). Only 2 DEs committed, 1 JUCO 3 :star and Tony Washington (3 :star ).

I'm not trying to start a debate here, just something I noticed. Another board called Oregon's class the best they've ever had.

Hopefully the Skers pull out Owa and Oregon has just a really good class

I thought i saw lattimore as a South Carolina lean, but maybe i am getting the wrong info. Also Baxter would be better off at Sc, and that is where i think Gabe King will end up

  11. I thought it was weird how Kingle was number 8, like Owa is on Rivals. Although he isnt as highly rated on scouts, he is the number 8 overall Defensive End. I thought that was odd, especially since Kindle and Owa seem to have the same style of play; pass rushing with some speed to go with it.

  12. I think Nebraska has some hot chicks, they just dont post pictures of themselves like other schools. Not to mention the fact UCLA is warm more, hence the more tanned skin, and more skin being shown.

I do think NE has some hotties tho.

Nothing like the west coast girls man, we just have our corn-fed girls strolling around campus.
