  1. Hujan, good summary. I was there, but didn't get to sit by Dr. Tom. Did get to shake his hand and take a photo.

To bad Bo wasn't there. I think my wife was more upset than I was (she didn't know about all the coaching changes)

    GBR!!!

  2. I think 10 - 15 would be a good indicator of our potential, top 10 or out of the top 20 would be making some assmuptions that I think do not apply. Bottom line I think the offense will improve and learn to battle out a tough team each week.

Its like Deja Vu. We were saying the same thing at this time last year.

Exactly. Until NU is able to have a consistent offense, NO top 15 ranking.

  3. One more thing. Look at recruiting classes not as 1 standalone class. Last year NU had 6 defensive lineman. This year they might only get 3. So, that is 9 defensive lineman (not counting walk-ons) over 2 years. That seems right to me. You are just adding pieces to a big puzzle, not creating a brand new team every year.

    GBR!!!!

  4. If the big red is higher than 15 someone is smoking something illegal. Average to below average offense, defense only loses one in the front 7 (ok, front 6) but loses 4 in the back 5.

I say 18 to 23 will be the range of AP & coaches polls.

  5. I still think the the blame for Watson is Coach Osborne. If he is still in his corner this may not happen. My guess is Coach Pelini is ready to cut the ties, but may have problems doing it.

We will know in a few weeks is my guess.

I've said this too but other's who think that Osborne walks on water disagree!

I concur. You could blame some of Solich's issues on Tom. Solich "had to" keep TO's assistant coaches. Old timers who didn't go out and recruit.

Bo needs to stand up to TO and TO needs to see the problem and let Bo run with the changes. I still think Cotton will be the hardest to let go.

A "Nebraska Guy". Bring in the best coaches. Doesn't have to be a ex Nebraska player or coach.

    GBR!!!!

  6. % chance.....

    •
    • 25% do nothing
    • 10% all three - Watson, Cotton, Gilmore,
    • 40% Watson only
    • 1% Cotton only
    • 19% Gilmore only
    • 5% something else

I hope all three are gone. But, Cotton will be the hardest one to let go. I think Cotton will end up staying and the other two will go.

    GBR!!!!

  7. w/ Pelini's tendancy to red-shirt, low attrition (there are a few guys on the roster I was sure would be gone by now), the build-up of the walk-on program, and low number of JUCO recruits I'd say we can get used to having classes that are around 20-23. In any given year we'll give out 1-3 walk-on scholarships, and carry the equivalent of 4.5 years of classes. Lets hope we're winning enough games that we can be picky w/ those 20, because you can't afford to miss too often.

First off, kchusker_chris, I LOVE your Avatar! Very Nice!!!

The points below I have stated in another posting, thought I would repeat....

My opinion - What plays into the Number of recruits taken each year.

    1. Walk-ons: As the walk-on classes continue to get back to pre-Callahan levels (20 ish) per season, there is a greater chance that a walk-on earns a scholarship.

    2. As the depth improves, there is less of a need to burn redshirts. So mathematically you only need to get 17 to 18 guys over a 5 year turnover.

    3. The coaches seem to be looking for a certain type of recruit = less "stars" better citizens and more intelligent.

There might be something I am missing, but these 3 things combined mean you only need to get 17 to 22 GOOD kids every year.

Of course you will have kids quit, not make it academically, injuries, leave for the NFL early.

The Big classes you see are from schools that CHURN and BURN (as I used to say when I was a stockbroker) these kids.

Get a bunch of high star guys and hope some "stick". Don't worry about their other issues - school, attitude, the "police".

Total points is not the correct way to look at how well a school does recruiting.

YOu should look at AVG stars / AVG score per recruit and does the players fill the NEED for that recruiting class.

Also, look at which recruits actual make it to the school and actually play.

    GBR!!!!!

  8. I think they are being quiet about it so ISU still has to make their game plan without knowing what to expect. 25% chance they just aren't sure yet, 75% chance they don't want anyone to know.

Agree. I think it's a 50/50 that Zack starts. That is fine. We should beat Iowa State by 3 TD's without T-Magic.

  9. I "screened shot it" also. Great stuff. Emailed it out to buddies.

I also sent a letter to ESPN....

Two week in a row ED has blown the call on a Nebraska Player.

    Both hits were legal.

    - Both players were looking at the player when they were hit, and were hit from the front - not a defenseless player.

    - Both players led with their shoulder pads - even though the helmets made contact right after initial contact or during initial contact.

Case 1 - Eric Martin was IN FRONT of the Oklahoma state player. The player was NOT defenseless (unless you penalize the OK State coach who put a player on the field that had multiple concussions). Martin led with shoulder, yes the helmets did hit, AFTER the shoulders hit.

Case 2 - The QB is NOT defenseless - he is looking at the NU player that is why Gabbert's (6'5'') helmet came DOWN and hit the smaller (5'9'') players helmet.

    Ed read the rules -

Ya know, if you are going to call out an announcer, then please get the statistics right. Courtney Osborne is 6'3, not 5'9. A wee bit of a difference there.

Thanks for the correction. I will ask you for help in the future "trouble".

    GBR!!!
