--------------- Original Message ---------------

Two week in a row ED has blown the call on a Nebraska Player.

    Both hits were legal.

    - Both players were looking at the player when they were hit, and were hit from the front - not a defenseless player.

    - Both players led with their shoulder pads - even though the helmets made contact right after initial contact or during initial contact.

Case 1 - Eric Martin was IN FRONT of the Oklahoma state player. The player was NOT defenseless (unless you penalize the OK State coach who put a player on the field that had multiple concussions). Martin led with shoulder, yes the helmets did hit, AFTER the shoulders hit.

Case 2 - The QB is NOT defenseless - he is looking at the NU player that is why Gabbert's (6'5'') helmet came DOWN and hit the smaller (5'9'') players helmet.

    Ed read the rules -

  2. I have gone back and forth.....

NU should beat TexAss by 3 touchdowns.

    Then back to .....

They have nothing to lose, they have great players, good to great coaches, NU players are overexcited for the game, on and on.

Then I have come back today to ....

NU should beat TexAss by 3 touchdowns.

So, that is how it goes.....

    GBR!!!

  3. Other things play into the Number of recruits taken each year.

    1. Walk-ons: As the walk-on classes continue to get back to pre-Callahan levels (20 ish) per season, there is a greater chance that a walk-on earns a scholarship.

    2. As the depth improves, there is less of a need to burn redshirts. So mathematically you only need to get 17 to 18 guys over a 5 year turnover.

    3. The coaches seem to be looking for a certain type of recruit = less "stars" better citizens and more intelligent.

There might be something I am missing, but these 3 things combined mean you only need to get 17 to 22 GOOD kids every year.

Of course you will have kids quit, not make it academically, injuries, leave for the NFL early.

The Big classes you see are from schools that CHURN and BURN (as I used to say when I was a stockbroker) these kids.

Get a bunch of high star guys and hope some "stick". Don't worry about their other issues - school, attitude, the "police".

Total points is not the correct way to look at how well a school does recruiting.

YOu should look at AVG stars / AVG score per recruit and does the players fill the NEED for that recruiting class.

Also, look at which recruits actual make it to the school and actually play.

  4. Bama will be number 5, 6 or 7. NU will move up to #5.

They are a great team, just hit a tough stretch of games. The Ol' ball coach had 2 weeks to get ready.

BUT, why the lack of running game from Alabama. That was the biggest surprise, more than c$%ks scoring on their defense.

  5. Loudest stadium I have been in. I sat under the overhang on the 20. Behind the Huskers. Washington fans had earplugs. I had a headache after the game.

The structure of the building is the cause for this, NOT the Washington fans.

Had a great time. Great view, but stadium needs to be updated.

  6. My main goal is to win the Big 12. If we do that I'm satisfied with our season if we don't I may still be happy with our season depending on how we do but I'll still be a little disappointed.

Agree, Big 12 champ would be about right. 10 win regular season should be minimum, 11 or 12 win - Great. And keep Bo's undefeated Bowl streak alive would be a great way to enter the Big 10.

  7. Andy Hutchins at Sporting News says it well (IMPO):

So why focus on just Texas? It makes Big Red look bad: Humbled, spiteful of a school with arguably less football tradition, Nebraska focusing one year on retribution against a non-divisional foe just seems off. And it's the perfect way to get the sports world laughing at the Cornhuskers should a Longhorns stampede occur.

Nebraska's taking a risk based on emotion and gambling that their team can win one game that their season will revolve around. If the Huskers can't deliver, it'll be hard to call this campaign—or this season—anything but a failure.

  8. Good analysis. This is how you would look at the increased value in a corporation. Some questions;

    1. did prices go up?

    2. we had the same amount of home games, correct?

    3. was the distribution from the big 12 larger?

    4. Also bowl game vs. no bowl game in 2007 makes a difference? (I know the total is shared amongst all schools)

    5. Increased PPV viewership

I think it as to start at the Top. Tom O. brought in Bo. So he made the decision to bring in the "CEO" of football. I think Tom would get the largest percentage of the pie. But, just like football, it's a TEAM effort. Go Big Red!!!!

  9. Very nice, but I don't like us making such a big deal out of the TexASS game. It's just "the next game". I dread that Nebraska Fandom will make a HUGE deal out of this that we will either lose a game before texASS, lose to them, or lose the game after them.

    Just paranoid!!!!

So.... we shouldn't make a big deal out of our huskers.. I mean this season is just "the next one" right?

What fun is being a fan if we can't over hype our team and match ups? It's the only reason I wake up in the morning. :koolaid2:

I'm all for the university promoting this game. It'll be a good measuring stick for Pelini's progress. I would be fine if we dropped a game to OSU or ATM if we laid the smack to Texas. I think the RedAroundTheWorld is a great idea and will only solidify our fan base / gain support from outside the big 12 / motivate our players. I think most of the country will be rooting for NU after the scam last year and how most people loathed crybaby mccoy.

HEY, I believe in keeping your mouth shut and kicking butt. In the end, Scoreboard rules, and versus TexASS we don't have any. The best thing Nebraska can do is beat them down..........With Class!!!
