Schools are always able to get that number down. Maryland should be able to get a huge chunk of that fee removed due to recently voting against the exit fee increase.

From a selfish fan view I would like Georgia Tech to join the B1G. More B1G exposure in the southern states. Create a recruiting ring around the right side of the country from Nebraska, Georgia, Maryland, Penn, Ohio, And back down to Nebraska.
GT would be a great fit for what B1G wants. Great academics. Great media market. Great recruiting opportunities. It wouldn't damage the overall level of competition.
The only thing going against GT in my opinion is distance from the other B1G schools.

Unless the Big 10 has some end game to pressure ND in, I'd like to see VA Tech (football & Virigina TVs), KU (basketball - just the BB - not much more in TV except during BB season). Looking at purely football - FSU (As we've yet revenged our 1993 - officials missing a 100 calls NCG), and VA Tech. Not sure if these schools are AAU qualified or not. Speaking of - is there any chance NU gets re-admitted into the AAU??
UVA, UNC, GT, and KU are all AAU members, VT and FSU are not. AAU membership isn't all it's cracked up to be though. VT and FSU are ranked academically higher than KU. In fact, out of all these schools, I think KU is the only one that might be disqualified purely for academic reasons.

9 conf games per year. group 1 and 2 play each other for 2 years, with each school have one protected corssover per group (for groups 3 and 4). Every 2 years, they change to another group and play 2 protect corssovers (from other two groups they arent paired up for that year).
Essentailly 4 protected cross overs, and play the other 9 teams twice every 6 years.
Our schedule for year one and two...
Play all of group 1 and 2 teams, plus one prtected crossover from group 3 and 4 (PSU and OSU)
Our schedule for year 3 and 4....
Play all of group 1 and 3 teams, plus one protected crossover from group 2 and 4 (NW and OSU)
Our schedule for year 5 and 6....
Play all of group 1 and 4 teams, plus one protected crossover from group 2 and 3 (NW and PSU)
Always liked that format for a 16 team conference. Many say it's too complicated, but it's the simplest way to prevent long term competitive imbalance in such a large conference.
The grouping would definitely need adjusting depending on what the other 2 teams end up being. (hopefully good eastern football teams like VT, Georgia Tech, or Florida State) Then it would be easy to just throw all 4 new teams in one group.

Look on the bright side everyone, I think with the very mixed to slightly negative leaning reaction to these alternate uniforms, I think it is fair to say that it will be a VERY LONG TIME before Nebraska ventures down this road again.
Nebraska doesn't need gimmicks like this. When did "tradition" become a bad thing? Oregon did their whole uniform craze because their program needed an identity. Other programs needing an identity followed Oregon's lead, and it has just snowballed over the last 5 years with some outlandish looking uniforms.
Nebraska doesn't need a new identity. We've had one for over 50 years. Need a reminder...see below.
Tradition for the sake of tradition has always been a bad thing. As soon as tradition gets in the way of progress, it needs to be ended.
As far as football tradition goes, if you aren't relevant for more than 12 years, the kids you have to appeal to be become relevant again don't know the tradition and just think it's the strange habits of crusty old people.

So black should not be used because it has never been part of Nebraska's color scheme, but yellow is okay?.... Makes lots of sense...
Yes, it is, since yellow is implied by the team name.
-
I know black is the new fad, but it is overdone and has never been part of the NU color scheme. If a tertiary color is used, it should be yellow.
I'd like to see an all red jersey. (screw the superstitious) Red shoes, red socks, red jerseys, no stripes, no names, red numbers with a white outline. And just to mix it up a little, a yellow helmet with a kernal/cob pattern and no other markings. The clean appearance is enough to look "futuristic" and the cob helmet is enough to get national attention. Also, run it during the Wisconsin game because it's too hard to tell the two uniforms apart.

ehh.. I'm waiting until 4-D comes out...

Miami is going to be a nuclear fallout zone if even half this stuff is verified by the NCAA.
Imagine how big of a joke the NCAA will be if they DON'T nuke Miami over this. If they don't give the Canes the death penalty, nobody will ever respect their rules again.
Are they even eligible for the death penalty? I know there's a clause that states they have to have been on probation within the last 5 years. Have they been on probation within that time frame?
-
All I have to say is Auburn, LSU, Missouri, Clemson. Think about it.

The way the contracts work this year are as follows:
No longer a transfer fee to go to the NFL, but must wait until the season is over to leave
Pay slightly lower than last year; standard contract is for $40k with QBs (and probably a few others) making more
Season is sooner and will likely be done around Oct 20 (probably about the time the NFL will start play this year)
Players can begin negotiating with the NFL starting Oct 1

Definitely a hit piece. Probably because no one from the university was willing to talk to them.
Trev Alberts may have handled the situation poorly, but there was no way to make football viable. Wrestling may have been able to be saved, but no one really cares except current and former UNO wrestlers.
-
Am I the only one not seeing the problem with this?
-
There's been a resurgance in UNO hockey past couple of years. This year they're ranked 15th, and have the 3rd best record in the WCHA, which might be the best conference in college hockey.
It sucks that they cut wrestling and football, and its obvious it's a money grab. Just don't say screw hockey, without knowing what's going on with that team.
If it weren't for the successful hockey program, we'd more like be talking about a drop to division 3 instead of cuts associated with a rise to division 1.

Never to early to start Heisman speculation.

I wonder who Shatel's sources named as the 5 candidates.
Im guessing NU, ND, Rutgers, Pitt, Syracuse.
I've never understood this about the lists people put out: is there are reason Virginia Tech is never on them? They're similar in geography with good academics and athletics.
-
Well, if true, it might solve the issue of penalties for leaving the conference. Get one more school involved and the Big 12 can be dissolved instead of individual teams leaving. Texas may be able to force Baylor to consent. But yeah, I'm concerned about what happens to KU. There basketball program is good enough to get into a good conference, but they won't be geographically close to another major conference. As far as Baylor, KSU, and ISU, I don't care one bit.

One source tells me the league wants four divisions of four teams, and two eight-team "sides." Good luck trying to make that work while maintaining traditional rivalries and some semblance of geographic coherence. (Example: Michigan and Ohio State must play each other, but if you put those two and Penn State on, say, the Eastern side, the league tilts like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.)
There is a way to structure it without severe imbalance or breaking up most rivalries.
Quoted from a post of mine on another forum, makes the assumption that Notre Dame, Nebraska, Missouri, and another Big East school join.
I'd think a good 16 team system would be 4 podsWest:
Nebraska
Wisconsin
Iowa
Minnesota
North:
Purdue
Michigan State
ND
Michigan
South:
Illinois
OSU
Missouri
Indiana
East:
NW (only school that doesn't fit geographically into its pod, but necessary to maintain rivalries)
Penn State
Rutgers
Other school (from here on refered to as OS)
2 pods form a division. Pods rotate every year.
Y1: E&N vs. W&S
Y2: E&W vs. N&S
Y3: E&S vs. W&N
Each team plays all teams in it's division as well as one fixed game from all other pods (to maintain rivalries) for a 9 game conference schedule plus a CCG.
Example:
OSU would have 3 fixed games: Minnesota, Michigan, and Penn State
OSU would play:
Y1: all south and west teams, Michigan, Penn State, and the CCG if they win their division
Y2: all south and north teams, Minnesota, Penn State, and the CCG if they win their division
Y3: all south and east teams, Michigan, Minnesota, and the CCG if they win their division
Hopefully the NCAA has no problem with divisions changing every year. (and will change the maximum BCS bowl bids per conference to 3)
Fixed games:
East:
Penn - Minnesota, Michigan State, OSU
NW - Wisconsin, ND, Illinois
Rutgers - Nebraska, Purdue, Indiana
OS - Iowa, Michigan, MU
West:
Nebraska - Rutgers, ND, MU
Wisconsin - NW, Michigan State, OSU
Iowa - OS, Purdue, Indiana
Minnesota - Penn, Michigan, Illinois
North:
Purdue - Rutgers, Iowa, Indiana
Michigan State - Penn, Wisconsin, Illinois
ND - NW, Nebraska, MU
Michigan - OS, Minnesota, OSU
South:
Illinois - NW, Minnesota, Michigan State
OSU - Penn, Wisconsin, Michigan
Missouri - OS, Nebraska, ND
Indiana - Rutgers, Iowa, Purdue
Penn/Iowa, Purdue/Illinois, and Penn/ND rivalries (at least the ones documented in wikipedia) are the only ones lost.
-
ND, MU, Rutgers, KU (I know it's not a likely school)

Holding out for the in the end zone $60 tickets that will be available to the "Name the Omaha UFL teams the OMAHA ZOMBIES" facebook group.
-
Leave it to Nebraskans to vote for a mascot that's so epically bland.
I can here the cheers now, "GO GENERIC NAME THAT HAS NO REGIONAL SIGNIFICANCE TO OMAHA OR IT'S INHABITANTS WHATSOEVER, GO!!"
You have to admit it's got quite ring to it.
That's the thing. No one voted for Nighthawks. The whole city naming the team thing is a big farce. Of the three time they've done it, none of the popular suggestions have been taken.
-
Wrote in Mammoths. I can live with it, and in my opinion, it has the best chance to win out of any write-ins suggested so far.
-
Looks like our choices are going to be:
Mustangs
Spirit
Navigators
Stags
Write ins will be allowed, so we really need to band together to get a good write-in. The other choices are just too generic. (and we don't need a 2nd Mustang team in town)
-
We seriously need to get VT scheduled every year. Their fans are total class acts.

I prefer the pod system with protected rivalries. 2 pods form a division with the divisions changing every one or two years and each school having one protected rivalry with a team in every other pod.
West:
Nebraska
Iowa
Minnesota
Wisconsin
North:
Michigan
Michigan St
NW
Illinois
Central:
OSU
PSU
Purdue
Indiana
East:
Rutgers
Maryland
UNC
GT
Protected games: (best I could do to preserve rivalries, I think I got all the important ones)
Iowa-Michigan St-PSU-Maryland
Minnesota-Michigan-OSU-Rutgers
Wisconsin-Illinois-Purdue-UNC
Nebraska-NW-Indiana-GT
In this scenario, Nebraska would play Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northwestern, Indiana, and Georgia Tech every year and the remaining three schools from the other pod in their division.
