  1. I prefer the pod system with protected rivalries. 2 pods form a division with the divisions changing every one or two years and each school having one protected rivalry with a team in every other pod. West: Nebraska Iowa Minnesota Wisconsin North: Michigan Michigan St NW Illinois Central: OSU PSU Purdue Indiana East: Rutgers Maryland UNC GT Protected games: (best I could do to preserve rivalries, I think I got all the important ones) Iowa-Michigan St-PSU-Maryland Minnesota-Michigan-OSU-Rutgers Wisconsin-Illinois-Purdue-UNC Nebraska-NW-Indiana-GT In this scenario, Nebraska would play Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northwestern, Indiana, and Georgia Tech every year and the remaining three schools from the other pod in their division.
  2. Schools are always able to get that number down. Maryland should be able to get a huge chunk of that fee removed due to recently voting against the exit fee increase.
  3. GT would be a great fit for what B1G wants. Great academics. Great media market. Great recruiting opportunities. It wouldn't damage the overall level of competition. The only thing going against GT in my opinion is distance from the other B1G schools.
  4. UVA, UNC, GT, and KU are all AAU members, VT and FSU are not. AAU membership isn't all it's cracked up to be though. VT and FSU are ranked academically higher than KU. In fact, out of all these schools, I think KU is the only one that might be disqualified purely for academic reasons.
  5. Always liked that format for a 16 team conference. Many say it's too complicated, but it's the simplest way to prevent long term competitive imbalance in such a large conference. The grouping would definitely need adjusting depending on what the other 2 teams end up being. (hopefully good eastern football teams like VT, Georgia Tech, or Florida State) Then it would be easy to just throw all 4 new teams in one group. Group 1: Rutgers Maryland New team A New team B Group 2: Minnesota Wisconsin Iowa Nebraska Group 3: Michigan Michigan St NW Illinois Group 4: tOSU PSU Indiana Purdue
  6. Tradition for the sake of tradition has always been a bad thing. As soon as tradition gets in the way of progress, it needs to be ended. As far as football tradition goes, if you aren't relevant for more than 12 years, the kids you have to appeal to be become relevant again don't know the tradition and just think it's the strange habits of crusty old people.
  7. I know black is the new fad, but it is overdone and has never been part of the NU color scheme. If a tertiary color is used, it should be yellow. I'd like to see an all red jersey. (screw the superstitious) Red shoes, red socks, red jerseys, no stripes, no names, red numbers with a white outline. And just to mix it up a little, a yellow helmet with a kernal/cob pattern and no other markings. The clean appearance is enough to look "futuristic" and the cob helmet is enough to get national attention. Also, run it during the Wisconsin game because it's too hard to tell the two uniforms apart.
  8. Imagine how big of a joke the NCAA will be if they DON'T nuke Miami over this. If they don't give the Canes the death penalty, nobody will ever respect their rules again. Are they even eligible for the death penalty? I know there's a clause that states they have to have been on probation within the last 5 years. Have they been on probation within that time frame?
  9. All I have to say is Auburn, LSU, Missouri, Clemson. Think about it.
  10. The way the contracts work this year are as follows: No longer a transfer fee to go to the NFL, but must wait until the season is over to leave Pay slightly lower than last year; standard contract is for $40k with QBs (and probably a few others) making more Season is sooner and will likely be done around Oct 20 (probably about the time the NFL will start play this year) Players can begin negotiating with the NFL starting Oct 1
  11. Definitely a hit piece. Probably because no one from the university was willing to talk to them. Trev Alberts may have handled the situation poorly, but there was no way to make football viable. Wrestling may have been able to be saved, but no one really cares except current and former UNO wrestlers.
  12. If it weren't for the successful hockey program, we'd more like be talking about a drop to division 3 instead of cuts associated with a rise to division 1.
  13. http://promo.espn.go.com/espn/contests/nissan/heisman/voteHeisman Never to early to start Heisman speculation.
  14. I've never understood this about the lists people put out: is there are reason Virginia Tech is never on them? They're similar in geography with good academics and athletics.
  15. Well, if true, it might solve the issue of penalties for leaving the conference. Get one more school involved and the Big 12 can be dissolved instead of individual teams leaving. Texas may be able to force Baylor to consent. But yeah, I'm concerned about what happens to KU. There basketball program is good enough to get into a good conference, but they won't be geographically close to another major conference. As far as Baylor, KSU, and ISU, I don't care one bit.
  16. There is a way to structure it without severe imbalance or breaking up most rivalries. Quoted from a post of mine on another forum, makes the assumption that Notre Dame, Nebraska, Missouri, and another Big East school join.
  17. ND, MU, Rutgers, KU (I know it's not a likely school)
  18. Holding out for the in the end zone $60 tickets that will be available to the "Name the Omaha UFL teams the OMAHA ZOMBIES" facebook group.
  19. That's the thing. No one voted for Nighthawks. The whole city naming the team thing is a big farce. Of the three time they've done it, none of the popular suggestions have been taken.
  20. Wrote in Mammoths. I can live with it, and in my opinion, it has the best chance to win out of any write-ins suggested so far.
  21. Looks like our choices are going to be: Mustangs Spirit Navigators Stags Write ins will be allowed, so we really need to band together to get a good write-in. The other choices are just too generic. (and we don't need a 2nd Mustang team in town)
  22. We seriously need to get VT scheduled every year. Their fans are total class acts.
