  1. When we want to talk mess about the state of Nebraska, here's how we do it. From the "SAY MEAN THINGS ABOUT THE STATE OF NEBRASKA" thread on Texags:

"THEY HAVE A UNICAMERAL LEGISLATURE.WHAT KIND OF COMMUNIST **** IS THAT??"

"PROBABLY NO DECENT MEXICAN RESTAURANTS (at least outside Omaha and/or Lincoln)"

"THEIR COACH HAS A LAST NAME THAT SOUNDS LIKE A WARM, PRESSED SANDWICH!!!! BO PANINI!!!!!!"

"THE PEOPLE THERE ARE TOO EFFING NICE??? WHO CAN BE THAT NICE ALL THE TIME???"

"NEBRASKA WAS THE 37TH STATE TO JOIN THE US. PATHETIC."

"The state nickname used to be the "Tree Planter's State", but was changed in 1945 to the "Cornhusker State". NEBRASKANS WOULD RATHER HUSK CORN THAN PLANT TREES!!! GLOBAL WARMING ISN'T CAUSED BY MAN, IT IS CAUSED BY NEBRASKA!!"

"SPAM IS MADE THERE! I HATE SPAM! ANGER!"

"'NEBRASKA' SORT OF SOUNDS LIKE 'ALASKA'!!! SO CONFUSING!!"

"I GET DISTRACTED BY THE "BRA" IN THE MIDDLE OF THEIR NAME!!!"

"EPPLEY AIRFIELD IN OMAHA IS WAY TOO EASY TOO GET IN AND OUT OF COMPARED TO IAH!!!!! YOURE JUST HELPING THE TERRORISTS, EPPLEY AIRFIELD!!!!!"

    :corndance:corndance:corndance

Apparently they have never been to Burrito King in Madison.

  2. Is the payout for the Kraft Fight Hunger bowl a million boxes of mac n' cheese? Some of these bowl names are getting a little ridiculous :laughpound

I agree the names are crazy, it use to make me think that there were too many bowl, but than I thought how can I possibly live without the Beef 'O' Brady's St. Petersburg bowl.

PapaJohn's.com Bowl is always a classic

Why can't it just be the Papa John's bowl? Is the web site more important than the pizza store?

  3. Fine, let's discuss. How do you propose to enforce slowing down the offense from an officiating standpoint? Is it fair to not let teams hurry up in the two minute offense? If the hurry up is only legal in the final 2 minutes of a half, what about if a team is down by 2 scores with 6 minutes left? Once a team is ahead, should they have to wait a specific period of time before snapping the ball? I agree that it gives the offense a definite advantage, but there really isn't any way (that I can see) to enforce it without taking away from some other part of the game. Therefore, until a good way to enforce it is thought up, it will be legal, and therefore should be used if a team can hack it.

  4. so i am assuming that since they have NE listed as the favorite in those games, that they are a favorite in everygame this year?

I'm not saying that NU should necessarily be favored in every game, but one would assume this will be the case (preseason anyway).

  5. According to VegasInsider.com, Nebraska is an early favorite at Washington (-4.5), at Okie State (-7.5), at TAMU (-4.5), at KSU (-13) and against Texas (-2.5). Little early for this, but interesting none the less.

  6. I'm curious. Is a muffed kickoff (no initial possession) different from fumbling a ball when possession was clearly established?

There's definetely a difference, and I'm not saying that he definitely had possession. I was just stating I could kind of see where the ref could have made that call. Initially, I thought we got away with one, but after looking at it over and over, I convinced myself that the ref could have made the call (not saying it was the correct one). However, as VA Husker stated, if the ball was intentionally fumbled forward, there should have been a penalty (per NFL rules, no word on NCAA rules so this may not apply).

Overall, Nebraska shot themselves one too many times in the foot, which is not surprising considering how the past couple years have gone. The refs did not blow this game for us. The refs were bad, but they were bad for both sides.

  7. You got me. I can't find a rule that clearly states that you can't advance a forward fumble. I guess I was always under the impression that you couldn't intentionally fumble a ball forward, but I can't find anything stating otherwise. Nice catch. We may have caught a break on that one.

  8. There were some blown calls that went our way, too, notably the "down at the one yard line" fiasco of a call.

The refs didn't lose this game for us. Our inability to move or score lost this game. We gotta get off this "blame someone else" mentality.

WE lost this game. It's very simple.

I've never posted on this board, but after this game, I had to vent a few frustrations. I've talked with a lot of guys about this so-called "down at the one yard line" fiasco and here is how I see it. I DVR'd the game and watched this play numberous times in slow mo and I believe that this was actually the correct call. To me, it looks as if the returner caught the ball and had possession of it. He then realized that he was going down so he essentially fumbled it on purpose. Headsy play, don't get me wrong. However, he fumbled it forward, which results in a dead ball and can not be advanced. Many on here I'm sure will disagree with me, but this is the reason I think that call was made, and I think it was the correct call. The only calls I had real issues with was the PI on a ball that was clearly thrown away, and the lack of holding calls. The holding goes both ways, so at least they were consistent. But, you can't tell me with the amount of pressure we put on McCoy that there wasn't some holding on some of the plays that didn't result in sacks.
