  1. Is this going to turn into one of those internet chat rooms we all used when the net was still young? Age/Sex/Huskerfan??? Pics?

Ahhh to be 14 again :lol:

I see nothing wrong with or childish about getting to know something about your fellow members.

Don't take it personal Knap. It's a joke....I always forget the :sarcasm emoticon and it never ceases to amaze me how someone will always say something.

    I got the reference...lol

    A/S/L?

  2. It's an ultra-cynical, satirical blog that seems to be based in the Omaha area. It's similar in style to The Onion, although not as funny or well-written. The author takes a few shots at Husker football and the fans that obsess over it, like this:

    http://weirdharold.com/husker-brain-damage/

Okay, dementia explains what happens when you play football. Now we need a study to look into spectator brain damage, as in what makes 70,000 people dress up in fire engine red, drive 100 miles, and gather in a stadium to watch out-sized primates butt heads over an inflated leather pouch.

I remember spending lots of time in the Old Market area of Omaha while attending UNL, and people really went out of their way to let you know if they were not Husker fans. Kind of like they were trying sooooo hard to portray themselves as cultures and sophisticated that they were too good to be Husker fans...lol. As soon as they heard I was from Los Angeles, they would start to rag on the folks west of Omaha. Was kind of odd.

  3. How can you call yourself a husker fan if you are a strong supporter of 2 college teams? I just dont get it a true husker fan only bleeds one color and that is husker red this cyclone/husker , bruin/husker crap is just plain S T U P I D

Have to disagree here. Both sets of grandparents, both parents, all my aunts and uncles, and a majority of my family all were born and raised in Nebraska. I'm a California guy myself, but spent every summer working on grandpa's farm, and many a snowy Christmas in the panhandle. I love and respect the culture and tradition of Nebraska and my family, and it's an integral part of who I am, and how I live my life and raise my family. I chose UNL because of this strong affinity for the state, the school and their shared values. BUT, I was also raise in the shadows of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California and loved the underdog mentality of the Bruins...and the free tickets given out to us at the Boys Club...lol. I grew up listening to arrogant USC fans, and gravitated to the Bruins as another team I supported, even at a young age. It was also easy to do this because of the Pac 10/Big 10 Rose Bowl affiliation as you never had to choose sides in a meaningful game. We had series against the Bruins in the 80s and 90s, and my loyalties were strongly in the Big Red camp. But, I still loved the rest of the 90's watching the Bruins take care of the Trojans year after year. Besides picking up a local favorite, some folks go to grad school at another institution and support their "other" team as well. I have a friend who's a huge Michigan fan and alum, but also went to grad school at Wisconsin. He pulls for the Badgers in every game except when playing the Wolverines.

  4. I think we feel people remember the name Lawrence Phillips more than we think. We're Nebraska-centric, sure, we can't forget, but your average college football fan doesn't remember him anymore than you remember the one from their school.

Speak for yourself, Mr. Nebraska-centric. I've spent time on a LOT of message boards. Lawrence Phillips is still associated with Nebraska by fans old enough to remember his name 14 years after he played for us. Two years after Pedey's departure, nobody even knows who he is. It's not even close out there in the real world.

Go hang out on ESPN's boards, Yahoo's comments sections, CBS' boards, or Rivals or anywhere that college football is discussed and you'll see a Lawrence Phillips comment made frequently when a Husker fan is involved in a heated argument. It's still the go-to "slam" people toss out there. Failing to see how that affects this program's image and the damage his association with our school has done is myopic

The fact that these people have to throw out LP's as their come back or argument against Nebraska is rather good for us actually. If that's the only ammunition they have then their game is real weak.

    T_O_B

    :bonez

I think LP is thrown out like people throw out OJ for USC. It's a last ditch effort, but really....how much does OJ hurt the perception of USC? Not much. And, most people know LP much more for his crash and burn stuff after Nebraska.

  5. I chose Cally, based on the "perception" problems for most of the country. Most have NO idea who Pedey, and LP was a failed NFL player when the worst of his actions occurred. Thunder, no one knows or cares about outside of Nebraska and Nebraska fans. But, football folks know Callahan, and they know of him as the ex-Raiders coach who ruined Nebraska. Even with several successful Pelini years, the Callahan years will long be known as our dark days. Like our very own Fairbanks...lol. Pedey? Non-Huskers have no idea who he is...but, argument could easily be made that it's all his fault.

  6. Much rather Adidas gear myself. Any Nike stuff I have bought over the years never lasts and/or shrinks and I really hate having to pay $30 - $100 more just cause it has that little swish logo on it. Nike can suck it as far as my checkbook is concerned.

Great for Suh though. Grab the $$$$ big man.

I much prefer ADIDAS, the quality is just much better IMO, but so glad for Suh and his first payday. Great for him, and I agree the exposure for the program may help some.

  7. what are the odds that Uncle Bo is picking up the tab in some way?

Just hope he is honest in evaluating the kid...for better or worse. Last thing we need is a "Hawkins" incident. That being said, Bo seems like way too much of a straight shooter to have to worry about that.

  8. That's a surprise! UCLA didn't make his top 4.

Neuheisel closes like a true car salesman.......a very good one.

Not happy that we lost out on some of our recruits, but would much rather see the Bruins catch these guys than the Trojans. I think Chow and the staff must really believe they are on the verge of something...I'm hoping they go on another 7-8 year run over the Trojans in the Pac 10. Besides, when USC is down, it's much easier for outside schools to come in and recruit these kids not enamored with USC.

  9. How the end of the first half ended the way it did in the byu vs osu game? I thought I had let this go but apparently it's deep seeded... There was CLEARLY at least two seconds left on the field clock and it was a booth review... What was the difference?

I'm sure most of us saw it the same way. What a joke.

  10. It's a hard pill to swallow isn't it?

It is a bit of a hard pill to swallow when the schools that run the option have so much success with it, and even Osborne himself has explained why it worked and why it would still work. And I'm fine with us running a spread...as in the spread option. I care much less about the formation we line up in than I do about what we do once the ball is snapped. Option football gives you additional weapons on O, and forces the D to worry about more.
