  1. I didn't get to see many of the games on TV, so i had to listen to the radio. That being said, the broadcast guys probably said three or four times a game that JD had the man open downfield and over/under threw him for either the incompletion or almost as often, the INT. If ZT or Beck can hit those guys we're getting another 3 or 4 first downs and keeping drives going instead of running off the field. Add in a place kicker that can make something from the 30-45 yd. range and at least the offensive game plans begin to look a whole lot better. Defense is still a big concern for me. I heard awhile ago that Cos did a lot of studying the pro-style zone defenses that are more popular these days. If he'll implement them, and if they'll be successful is a concern of mine. but at the least, with the turnover in coaching, changing systems, lack of leadership, and split loyalties among players and fans, pointing at game planning and play calling and saying that's the reason last year was a struggle is a huge oversimplification. this season we'll probably learn a lot more about the new staff's skills as game planners and game day coaches
  2. i agree with hoyamann, i really have no idea where the season will go. The Tech game could be the key to the Big XII season for us. It'd be great to stick it to them after last season, but off the top of my head i can't think of any team in the last couple years that has effectively shut down their offense. ball control could be as important in that game as any we'll play all season. that being said, if we beat TT the team would maybe be 5-0 and have some confidence in themselves they haven't had in awhile. roughing up baylor and rolling into Mizzou at 6-0 could really start the Big XII out the right way. Winning three of the next five would probably give us the North. Losing to TT could put us on a completely different path, and we could easily end up at 4-4 in the conference and in another cluster-$%#@ for the North title. It's probably silly to put so much emphasis on a game that early, but I'm guessing this year's team will be one that relies more on momentum than on the ability to bounce back and forge ahead. realistically we could be anywhere from 4 to 7 conference wins...i still put on my rose colored glasses at game time and expect us to win them all anyway
  3. Does anyone know if he's going to visit, or if he's said anything about visiting anywhere else? This guy and Brooks could cause some problems for teams without two solid corners or speedy safeties.
  4. As you may already know, there's a free message board on rivals where you can read but not post. It's good for some speculation of upcoming commits and some entertaining banter with fans of other Big XII teams. All in all, to me its not worth the $10 a month to get info you can probably find or figure out with a little work on your own. If you're interested, just go to rivals.com, on the left side click Team Communities, and then go to Nebraska
  5. It's easy to understand how people can be upset at Callahan's hiring. It was the end of a Nebraska coach being brought up from inside the family and Stevie P. didn't go about it the way some of us thought he should. That being said, IMO the criticism of Callahan and his NFL record is used more as a jab at Stevie than at Callahan himself. The truth is, both players and coaches are needed, but both need to have the combination of talent and attitude. One without the other will lead a team to a sub .500 season. Callahan's Raiders went from the Super Bowl to 4-12, everyone knows this. But Gruden's Bucs (who won the super bowl) went 7-9 the next season and 5-11 last season. Does this mean that Gruden's "genius" was nothing more than a fluke? IMO he found himself with a group of players (some being injured) who were shorter on talent and shorter on attitude than he had the year(s) before. While I recognize that the NFL is much different than college football, pointing to Callahan's 4-12 season and poor relations with players and drawing parallels to his first year here at Nebraska is no reason to believe he can't get it done. It seems to me he and his staff have worked their tails off to get our program back on the way up. Whether or not that will result in a NC is just as much speculation as anything else. But my vote is for sometime in the next decade, probably later rather than sooner, but i won't give up on any team until the last game is played.

The 06 game will be tough, but could be great exposure for the Big Red. Thinking back to the UCLA game of 93 we filled their stadium with red, and if the fans are any part of recruiting, that should be a good show. If we can get back to the killer home team we were in the 90's the 07 game would be the kind of game to set us up for the next few seasons, much like the CU game back in 94, the craziest and best game i've ever been to. Can't wait to see it happen.
  7. There's been so much discussion of who the playmakers will be this year, especially when it comes to the recruits. It seems to me that a big reason for last season's meltdown, and our lack of improvement as the year went on, was a lack of effective leadership among the players. We only had one senior captain. I see maybe Ross and Bullocks being captains this year, but who else will fill the role of setting the tone each day in practice and then on the field?
  8. hey, my first post... as a student, the tunnel walk is pretty sweet, but i think they can do better with the video aspect. i'd rather see some of our corn fed homeboys rolling over someone than the cheesy flying over the state and such. but if the music had to be changed, my vote would be for "welcome to the jungle" by guns and roses
