  1. I heard some where that they could be looking at adding 3-5 teams making it 14-16 all together. If they take a KU and MU, (you definitely have to look at what's going to happen with the Big 12). Then if they add Pitt/Rutgers/UCONN (2 out of the 3), Neb needs to look strongly at this! Now you have a quality conference Ohio State, PSU, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, KU, MU, Pitt, Rutgers/UCONN. Those would be very exciting games. And with the level of competition in that conf, it could surpass the Big 12 and rival the SEC as the top conference.

If there was a way they could get ND interested, it would be very cool to see them in that conference, along with Pitt, Neb, MU, and KU!

And like redblooded said schedule Oklahoma every year and you got your self an action packed season. who wouldn't get excited about any of those games?!

  2. Why does everyone assume that our recruiting will suffer due to us joining the Big Televen? Someone please explain this to me.

First off, Nebraska has DECADES of ties to the state of Texas for recruiting. Funny, we had no problem recruiting the state in the 50 yrs prior to Texas joining the Big 12. If your program is committed to winning National Championships, athletes will come. The TV will be better with more people watching ESPN and ESPN2 than stupid FSN and Versus. The Pelini's have natural ties to hot bed recruiting states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, plus Louisiana and Texas.

I just don't buy the argument that athletes only come to Nebraska because of playing the occasional game in Texas. At most, we play 1 game a year in Texas. This is like Obama still blaming Bush for his failures. It makes no sense. It's like wiping before you poop.

That said. If you asked me 4 years ago, I'd a said no way. Now, I LOVE the idea of joining the Big 11. Playing Iowa (instantly becomes NU's biggest Rival) Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State would excite the fans. Toss in the fact we are now FREE to schedule Oklahoma EVERY YEAR instead of 2 times every 4 years. NU/OU could now be played YEARLY on the Friday following Thanksgiving or in the 4 weeks before conference season starts. How is this not a win/win situation?

At least entertain the offer Osborne/Perlman. Like another poster said, it may at least buy NU some more power in the Big 12. Osborne was the lone dissenter of the Big 12 because of the conference becoming Texas-centric...guess what? It is Texas-centric now...

I agree with a lot of what you said, but still think that recruiting in Texas will be a lot more difficult, we don't just play Texas, we also play Baylor, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech. Players like the fact that they get to go back and play in their home state a couple of times per year, and several times throughout their career, in front of their friends and family. Players like Burkhead, with that whole deal with Texas, I think that was one of the things that appealed to him, he knew he was going to get a shot at Texas a couple of times throughout his career.

  3. I would really hate to leave the Big XII. As much as I hate dealing with Texas and how much pull they have, the Little 11 is a joke! There would have to be more than just one to team help that conference become a strong. I think they should go after Pitt and UCONN. That would put a lot of pressure on Penn State and they would help the conference out. There was an interesting article on ESPN....link that explains the future of the Big XII. Some seems to be a bit out there, but very interesting read none the less.

The Big Ten had a pretty good year as a conference this year! And lets face it, the Big XII North is turning into a joke, and according to that article if MU left we are stuck with what KU, ISU, KSU, Col, and Ok State, not that I think any of that stuff in that article will happen. If Neb doesn't make the jump to Big Ten, it would be nice to see some realignment in the Big XII, but I'd rather see Oklahoma in our Division, so the annual rivalry is renewed.

Ohio State 11-2 (Bowl win over Oregan)

PSU 11-2 (Bowl win over LSU)

Iowa 11-2 (Bowl win over Georgia Tech)

Wisconsin 10-3 (Bowl win over Miami)

  4. The Big Ten has offered ND in the past and they turned it down. I also heard that ND has already said they are not interested in the latest rumblings of the Big Ten expansion.

I think it would be pretty cool to play against Iowa and Wisconsin and against Traditional Powers like Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, year in and year out. It sure beats playing Iowa State, Colorado, and K-State.

Plus if they bring in Mizzu and Kansas you still maintain the border rivalry with them. If that happened the Big Ten could be a very exciting conference.

But like someone already mention we would loose our recruiting pipeline in Texas. Which would definitely hurt our recruiting.

  5. Well Steinkuhler was rated a 5 star prospect as an Offensive Tackle not a DT. But I don't see why they would switch him over to Offense at this point, like some of the other guys have mentioned, the depth on the Oline shouldn't be an issue next season, we've got Hardrick coming in and the RS frosh: Ovale, Ash, Coffey, and Sirles all pressing for playing time.

  6. I was reading up on Rivals "Year in Review Offensive Line" and it said there is talk about a possible position change for Baker to move over to offense. I was wondering if anyone new if this is just speculation from people on the outside looking in or if the coaches have actually came out and said that they have talked about it.

To me he already seems primed to take the starting position at DT next to Crick next season, and behind him we don't really know who that next guy is. And he has spent two season working at DT. If you move him now it's like you wasted those other two season, he could have contributed last year on the thin Oline if the move was made before last season.

    Thoughts anyone?

  7. MWahahah! That was excellent! Nothing like watching the Blackshirts rippin' heads off. Suh's gonna be missed for sure, but I'm anxious to see what the D can do w/ the guys coming back in 2010. Anyone hyped for next season owes a huge debt of gratitude to this dominant force.

I'm glad you summed up the final NCAA defensive ranks too...makes it all that much more impressive. And it all makes ya wonder how the hell the Bama DefCo won Assistant Coach of the Year doesn't it? Kirby Smart, you should be ashamed to accept that trophy over Carl Pelini!

Awesome video!!! Should send that to Owa's facebook account, how could you not get pumped up about Nebraska after watching that?!?!?!

  8. Leach probably will raise the jolly roger on his boat and disappear for a few months. He'll network through his agent, and will land somewhere in 2011. I don't think he'll go anywhere besides a BCS team though. Schools that could be looking include Michigan, Colorado, A&M, Georgia, etc. His track record with Tech will buy him a 3-4 yr tryout somewhere.

i thought he was going to be an offensive coordinator at UCLA?

Last I heard, Chow was staying

i wonder where, why i heard that, but i'm sure his name was floated with UCLA in the sports radio world. i'll further research this topic.

was kiffin trying to get chow, and that is why they thought leach would go to UCLA? or am i just crazy?

Yeah I am pretty sure I heard on 1620 the Zone that Leach was going to UCLA to be the OC, then I checked online and it said Chow was going to remain there. And that is why I started the post in the first place. I got to thinking that it would sure be nice to have him on our side schematic wise. Yeah he is eccentric, but if it were pure football, one of the top 5 Offensive and one of the top 5 Defensive minds scheming on the same team. That would be insane!

  9. We won't know for a while how next year's D holds up. But in my opinion it will be harder without Suh to get a solid pass rush. So, if that is the case I have a few thoughts on ways to get to the QB. You guys might not agree on any of them, but I would love to hear your input.

All of these scenarios are for obvious passing downs and 3rd and 5+.

    1. Slide Meredith down to DT and put Ankrah at the DE. This would allow us to have 3 DE's on the field, which gives Bo more flexibility with stunting and so forth. Also I feel that Meredith is big enough to hold his own in this situation. The main reason though is I feel that Ankrah and Allen are move of your prototypical "pass rusher".

    2. Line up Eric Martin/Lavonte David up at DE. When we go to the Dime there will only be one LB on the field. Most likely IMO that will be Martin if he can pick up the schemes fast enough. David is very quick and would be VERY hard for bigger OT to get down to his level to block. Lining him up there would also allow him to drop back in a zone blitz scheme.

    3. Line up in the 5-2. line up like this Allen - Crick- Stein- Meredith- Ankrah. We did a little of this during this past year. I think that all 5 of these guys are going to get nearly 90% of the reps this year. So putting all 5 of them together could be devastating. This would also mean that they could not be doubled by 2 lineman.

Just some ideas. I know they all have flaws, but I love when defenses mix it up to keep the opposing QB off-balance.

I have heard a lot about Thaddeus Randle being a very good pass rusher. Also heard he is the quickest off of the ball out of any of the linemen on the team.

  10. We had A-Rod at 183..not one else from 100-250

That's too bad, wonder if any of our recruits are going to get bumped up to 4star status. Are they going to make any more updates outside of the 250, anyone know?

  11. No...even if he wanted to coach for Nebraska...what about his reputation with players. Parents don't want their kids anywhere near this guy.

Well, he wouldn't be making HC decisions, pretty sure he is not going to put a kid in a shed with Bo around, all he'd be doing is scheming. But I see your point.

  12. Head coaches will not ever be the OC/DC of a team, especially ones with the success that Leach had. It's a demotion.

Who is going to hire him as a head coach after what has happened at TTU? I think his options are go be an OC somewhere, take a year off, or take a HC job at a school that is less prestigious than Texas Tech. IMO being an OC somewhere at a big time school would be better than being a HC at a small time school. And if he went to a place like Nebraska, and turned that Offense around he would have a much better chance at landing a big time job in the future than if he went to a smaller school.

  13. Maybe this has already been posted, but why doesn't Nebraska go after Mike Leach to be the Passing Coordinator? Would it just be too expensive to keep Watson and hire Leach? USC had a Passing and Running coordinator.

  14. Interesting development. Let's see what the coaches can do late.

Suppose we get Brion Carnes and somehow Owa. If Delvin Jones(Ath/DE) wants to commit do we take him making it 6 DE in this class, still having the need at Safety? You would have Owa, Jones, Ashburn, Vestal, Okuyemi, Cotton(probably moving to OL but still listed at DE)

I mean this guy is big time talent, and you don't want to turn him away. It definitely be sweet seeing Owa and Jones lining up on opposite sides of the line. He is also an Athlete so could potentially move to another position. He just seems to fit DE the most. Reminds me of Jason Piere-Paul.

  15. If we lose out on Owa, Cooper and all the QB's, do we still try to fill up the class or save those unused schollies for next year?

I can't see the staff going into panic mode trying to fill up the class for the sake of filling up the class. Whether one, two or all three of those schollies go unused, then I'm gonna say the staff will save them for next year.

    Thoughts?

Agreed, unless there are any other top notch recruits out there looking for a home, especially with all of the coaching changes taking place.

  16. When the Big 12 was born we lost our great yearly game of the year. I can't blame Oklahoma for not wanting to play both Nebraska and Texas and have the outcome be part of their Conference record. I also envy Tex/Ok for the opportunity to play in such a great game year in and year out and I think it was even better when it also pitted two great conferences (The Big 8 and The SWC.) against each other. I could see the same type of rivalry being developed between Nebraska and Iowa. The States border on each other. The two teams are both long time members of big time conferences. This really seems like a no brainer to me and I can't figure out why it hasn't happened. There was a time when Iowa was a prennial loser but that ended when Hayden Fry took over the team in the late 70's or early 80's. I'd love to have this game played every year in mid to late September. A game we could look forward to as opposed to seeing another Sun Belt team come to Lincoln for a whuppin' and a pay check. What do you guys think?

IMO Oklahoma is the best to start a annual rivalry game with. Schedule it in our non conference schedule or figure out another way, but find a way to have this game every year. It has so much history, people still talk about Nebraska/Oklahoma college football at its best. There is no excuse why this cannot or should not happen. And they can still schedule another tough non conference game in there as well. There are still teams that schedule more than 1 tough non conference opponent. Just look at VT, they played Alabama, Nebraska, Tennessee! Now that is a pitch that you can sell to recruits!

I guess Tennessee was their Bowl Game, but they did have at least have 2 quality non conference opponents scheduled in the regular season.
