  1. No, absolutely not. Zac Lee will start. End of discussion.

"billy C" is right again. Carnes will not even be 4th Team. I expect a red shirt.

    GBRFE

Are you kidding me. Last year was some of the worse QB play that I seen in years. It was painful to watch most of the time against varsity teams. I mean come on Guys the second string QB was a freahmen that didn't know 3/4 of the plays. I think this guy might be able to hit someone thats open.
  2. Jamal Turner has agreed to do an interview with a good friend of mine. He will probably do the interview later this week, and he wanted some ideas about what questions to ask him. So...anything in particular you want him to ask?

-He also already called the athletic department and cleared it with them, so no worries about recruiting violations...smile.gif

Does he feel he will lead NU back to National Champions again as the QB here? If so, how many NC's does he fell he can he win here?

How solid is his comitment to N
  3. I'm intrigued by what Steve Sippel & Brian Christopherson had to say about the QB race at this point. Neither of them even mentioned Carnes.

They were talking about a spring battle between Cody and Martinez . They seemed not to know much about Martenz. Guys don't quit your day Job becuase that was pretty boring. Come on man. Here is some help on Martienz for you plus some HS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL VIDEO!!

Let's getum all out on the football feild and let the best man win.I want Martinez and Carnes get a fair shot.

Taylor Martinez is a talented all-around athlete who has the ability to play on either side of the ball at Nebraska. One of six Californians in Nebraska's 2009 recruiting class, Martinez compiled huge numbers as a quarterback as a senior. The 6-1, 185-pounder also has shown outstanding ability on defense and could be a factor in the secondary. Martinez was a dual threat quarterback for Coach Matt Logan at Corona's Centennial High School as a senior. Martinez passed for better than 3,000 yards and 28 touchdowns, and completed 61 percent of his passes. On the ground, Martinez added 750 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. His play helped Centennial to a perfect 15-0 season and a state championship, capped by a victory over De La Salle High, when Martinez threw for 243 yards. Centennial finished No. 2 nationally in the USA Today's final prep rankings. Martinez was named the Big VIII League's Most Valuable Player and also earned the Los Angeles Times' Glen Davis Player-of-the-Year Award. A first-team all-state selection, Martinez was also the Inland Division Offensive Player of the Year, was named the Max Preps California Player of the Year and the Golden States Prep Southern California Offensive Player of the Year. Martinez spent only one season at Centennial High School. As a junior, he quarterbacked San Bernadino Cajon High and accounted for about 1,500 yards of total offense. He spent his freshman and sophomore years at Norco High, where he primarily played in the secondary. Martinez was ranked among the top "athlete" prospects in the nation by Rivals.com, while Scout.com listed him among the top 50 quarterbacks. He was listed among the top 50 players in California by both Rivals.com and SuperPrep and Scout.com ranked him as the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback on the West Coast. SuperPrep also named him to its All-America team. Martinez only visited the Huskers. He is the son of Casey Martinez and Epifania Martinez and was born on Sept. 15, 1990.

  4. If Carnes can play up to his potential the job is his to lose after next season.

I dont mean to be rude but I strongly disagree. Cody Green will have this team for no less than two seasons.

    [/quote}

That is why this post is so interesting, We all strongly disagree. The only way Cody will start is if he can get better at completing his passes. If he can't improve in the off season and boy he better be working hard at it or he is going the to be riding the bench. Ask Lee about the hook.

  5. I will begin by saying I think he is a going to be a really good Husker. Carnes will not start working with the offense until he gets on campus so the odds of him starting are slim. Cody was enrolled early and got to participate in spring ball last year.

After reviewing some of the expectations that people have set for the 2010 Husker season; if Carnes is under center as the starting QB we will not be where we want to be as a program next year. JMHO

That is the best response I have read in the 70+ posts
  6. Carnes is a redshirt and surprised if he does not. Offense found a good identity in the Holiday Bowl and Lee should come back stronger. Also, I expect Green to be a lot better (he was a true freshman and put in some tough spots). Those are your two guys. We need to find a WR that will emerge and help our QB's. If Paul, Kinnie, and McNeill can be key in our passing game that will help our QB's immensely. Gilleylen is an X factor for me...we saw in the bowl game we wanted to get him the ball but so far has not worked out with him. He could really help next year if he can finally get it to click and make some key catches. I love Roy and Rex in the back field and the wild cob we ran as well. Give Tray some opportunities to pound the rock also.

We have to really wonder if the problems were the WR or the QB. Probably both.
  7.

Lee can't run (at all) or pass accurately. We need to put in anybody who can do something reasonably well.

If it's a freshman even with the lack of experience downside, so be it.

i'd wait to see what lee can do with a healthy arm, a healthy line, healthy running backs and receivers that aren't first year starters before i throw him on the scrap pile. he definitely has a lot to prove though. his performance in the holiday bowl was a start and he finally looked like someone that actually wants to run the ball, rather than a guy looking for a place to fall down.

i do agree that the competition should and will be open.

    Good Article on Him http://www.omaha.com/article/20100207/BIGRED/702069770
  8. They were forced to burn his RS becaue of injuries and QB defection. I think Cody would make a great outside linebacker.

I would be drawing wildcat plays for Cranes right now and then passing off it like the Jets did and brake him in that way. If we were deep in great QBs Redshirt him. But right now we can't Redshirt him unless someone devolops in a hurry. If I was Watson I would be Air mailing a playbook and going overing it on Skype weekly.

  9. I think he should redshirt and gain experience and confidence through working against the first team defense all year, that would make him a better player. If that doesn't happen they should give him a limited package of plays maybe in the wildcat. I think option 1 would help him and the team the most.

You know he has Tommies number on speed dial. We know he has great instintive running skills and it looks like he can actually hit someone with a pass so in my book that makes him number 3 and competeing for the 2 spot. With Lee's surgery the QB spot is the spicey Hot Topic. You never know, he could open a can of whoop Ass on the other QBees :nutz
  10. F646304.jpg

Look at the bones on that hat! Looks great on him.

Saints preserve us! HE'S A LEFTY!!!!! Now I don't trust him....... :wtf

Auh He is a All American for sure with that left hand it means

he can put up with crap and still rise to be victorious.

  11. I really, really wonder though: if Carnes isn't a QB and if our need there isn't what it was - do we still take him back?

I think we should be pretty happy with this class. We got 2 out of 3, and the two we got, were both the biggest needs, and the ones we were more expected to get.

90 days ago i would not have dreamed that we would end up recruiting this well, we should be thrilled with this class and Bo will get better recruits each year. great job by Team Pelini, i am very impressed with how it all turned out.

I just watched the video on this kid and I know it is highschool but this kid can make

plays with his Arm and feet. He could compete for the starting job this fall.

  12. Bo's quote on Owa's decision:

Pelini said he moves on fast from the ones that get away, but you could also tell the Husker coach felt strongly that Odighizuwa, the five-star defensive end from Portland, missed out by picking UCLA and not the Huskers.

Its his mistake, Pelini said. Honestly, I dont get all caught up in all that. I dont get all stressed out about whether theyre going to come. If its right, theyre going to come. You can drive yourself crazy over the whole thing. In the end its a crapshoot if hes going to be as good as anyone says he was anyway. I thought he was a pretty good player. But in my mind, the kids that dont choose to come here I dont believe do themselves a service because I believe well develop them better than the other guy. Thats just the confidence I have.

Bo never lets me down. You can't be much more straightforward than he was with that statement. No wonder we Nebraskans like the guy so much. Btw, he's going to work wonders with the guys we got this year 'cause they have talent & THEY WANT TO BE HERE. Could a coach ask for anything more?

Bo, did you just start watching football today?! What do you mean it's his mistake? Are you saying UCLA isn't a good football program and that Rick is slick? You mean you think he lied to recruits when he told them he'd be there for their entire careers because he is always looking for bigger and better? Oh, not that, you think they'll be in trouble and on double secret probation within 2 years because of Ricky. I understand.

I figured I just as well demean Bo's opinion since that seems like a popular thing today.

    [/quote}

Yes it was his mistake, He could of went to play for a Head Coach that is a Defensive Genius that took a almost last place Defense to number One in two years. Let me ask you. How good do you have to be to do that and who else could do it. Instead he choses a program with a weak defenses. I like Bo's attitude. It fits me just fine.

  13. Let the Crane Chants Begin!!!! Husker Crazy, I think you need to send some heating blankets to the Crane!!

Lookng forward to the "Crane " striking with his arm and" flying " down the sideline taking it to the house and then hearing the crowd chanting whoop whoop whoop! A little louder. We got the Birdman in Denver. N got the Craneman!
  14. Good for him...bad for us.

Wish a bright future for Cody. He's right - we were too late.

Forget this QB recruitment this year. What a screw up for this year. I hope they learn a lessen from it.
  15. Well, it's not - it's just that nobody's left "out there" anymore. We wanted to get Cody or Brion, and we struck out on both because we thought we had Brion, told Cody that and lost him, and then ended up not getting Brion. Supposedly coaches loved both these guys, and maybe they do step in above some current guys on the roster if we get them.

Yeah. I know these coaches are being very respectful of the recruits and their future...but it's obvious they should have pushed Brion harder. I see NO reason why they should have told Fajardo not to come. Except, that the "entire" staff wasn't on board. If they liked him so much they should would offered him and seen which committed first. I'm starting to think maybe the "entire" staff wasn't as on board with Cody as we have been led to believe. Cody didn't have to rush to secure that spot at Nevada. He could still be uncommitted and on his way to Lincoln, but he's not...which leads me to believe we teased him a little bit, but never put on the full court press. Some of this could have been because they thought Brion was "silently committed" but with this staff and the way they treat recruits who take additional visits (which Carnes still was doing) then I see no reason why they wouldn't have been still pursuing Cody if they all really wanted him.

Let me See nevada or Nebraska. Which one would you like to play for. If he did not sign why not call him tonight

  16. ...good luck to the kid. Those witty MU fans would have done a number on his last name anyway. Fajardo - that's ripe for the picking.

Per the Husker board on HI.

    Not verified yet.

    Strange Cody Fajardo News Reply

First he cancels the visit here (based on the rumours that is not strange). Supposedly it is to goto Tucson to visit U of A, which just had a QB defection (that is no strange). Before he goes to Tucson, he commits to the Nevada Wolfpack.

Confirmed he did commit to Nevada today.

Fajardo would fit well at Nevada. Their Pistol offense would be right up his alley.

I would be calling CODY now if he hasn't signed on the line.
  17. Can I just say, I love how all these new Player names are popping up as Recruiting profiles out of nowhere. It's like a mahem has let loose, ppl want a QB no matter how far down they have to dig into Athletes to find a develop-able one. Word breaks loose that Carnes is out, ppl start jumping for :star :star :star Athlete/QB converts they would have ridiculed NU for even looking at had it been a couple weeks ago. PPl just want to give out the scholies. Hilarious!! :cheers

Why change now, We already got about 2 or 3 that are 3 stars and converted DB at the number three depth chart at QB.
