How long is going to take for us to make a recruiting splash?
T-Husker replied to JOEY's topic in Football Recruiting
I'm not trying to start a fight or anything, but BC's top 15 classes didn't lead to any of those things. Conf champ: nope. One chance. BCS bowls: close one time, but nope. Natl Champ: Not even a whiff. I'm confident in the staffs ability to take lower talent and make them into impact players. There are too many highly ranked studs that fall through the cracks at the college level when making the transition from high school to say that 5 stars are always better than 3's. It just isn't always the case. I personally believe that top 25 classes can be coached up into contenders when kids work their tails off and believe in the system like it sounds like our players now are doing. We have already seen our players get faster and smarter under Bo through recruiting and flat out coaching. I really think that the fascination with top 10 recruiting classes resulting in winning championships is just because as fans we always look to the future. It's fun to prognosticate, and when we have a really good recruiting class, we make it into a forecast for how many conf champs, and possible natl champs, we will win the next few years. It's fun but is it really as much of a factor as coaching. In football, I don't think so. Now in basketball it's a whooole nother story! -
Hahah! My friend said he saw him play at state against Skutt in the first day of Class B games. He plays basketball like a football player. One time he just shoved an opposing player he couldn't box out of the paint. Pelini should have went to the tourney. He would've liked what he was seeing. Crete went 7-15 and lost to Skutt 78-34 in that game.

Well that would be sweet sauce right there!
-
If we let Santos commit, we will only take ONE more LB in this class....Dexter Moody. EZ mentioned another LB too. Keith Lewis (maybe his name or something like that?) Do you think we would take him if he jumped before Moody?

Just like the last one, this was awesome. Thanks for doing these Andy. They are extremely enjoyable reads.

No longer interested in Texas sounds awesome!

I'm so sick of stupid UCLA competing with us for recruits. I don't even get how they are in the mix with the same kids we are. They are the yang to our yin, the bert to our ernie, the ebert to our siskel, the chocolate pudding to our strawberry yogurt.
-
Yeah, Bo doesn't strike me as the kind of dude that wouldn't accept silent commits. I like to think maybe Aaron Green is a silent commit right now (no info just a hunch) and is waiting for more time to pass before he announces so he doesn't get hounded by UT fans. That would be so cool.

I don't think he said we cooled on Sarao . . . it sounded more like he meant Sarao cooled on us after making the grades. Okay. Must have misread it. There is a really good chance we take Cole Fisher as a walk on this year... If we do I see him competing for playing time his 3rd season in the program or so, Redshirt Sophomore. I'd be pretty shocked if Cole took a walk on offer at Neb over a scholarship at Iowa. Iowa is still close to home, has a good program, good defense, good coach, and he gets to play against him favorite team every year when he gets to school. Not saying I wouldn't love it if he became a walk on, but I would be shocked!

Big Ten recruiting in Texas, Florida and California
T-Husker replied to Nexus's topic in Football Recruiting
Thanks for the answer Dylan. -
We have a shot with a good highschool WR from Florida, Curt Evans. He has an offer list of a big-time reciever. And I was pretty happy with Enunwa and Bell. They were good pick ups last year.

It's nice having a LB commit for 2012 too. I think that factors into taking 2 instead of 3 as well.

Big Ten recruiting in Texas, Florida and California
T-Husker replied to Nexus's topic in Football Recruiting
Nice post Nexus. I have a question, and this might be showing off some of just how naive I am, but since I didn't follow recruiting until midway through the Callahan era, what did Solich do? Did he recruit Texas? Nationally? Big 12 regionally like Colorado, Mizzou, Kansas? I don't mean to derail the beginnings of a good thread, btw. Just super curious. -
Dont read into any Texas propaganda that you might see posted all over their stupid sites. Aaron is really high on NU and is considering us for A LOT of reasons. Not just because we have Andrew; granted Andrew might have helped our chances tenfold and been the reason he considered us in the first place, but he has a lot more reasons than just that to come to NU. You will never see John Talman or Sean Callahan write such an uneducated article as the ones written on OB. Especially the ones pertaining to Aaron Green. They are far behind and they know it. Texas is behind in a huge way with Aaron. Bama has made up a lot of ground on Texas in the Malcolm Brown sweepstakes. It wouldnt surprize me to see Brown go to Bama. Then UT is left without a single one of their top 4 running backs out of the state. And that! Would be awesome!

Not entirely. But I dont see us offering Cole. We are also in on a good one in Florida named Keith Lewis. Thanks for the info EZ!
-
Would that also mean that there's no chance we offer Cole Fisher?
-
Anyone a little worried about Cal or FSU? Cal is nice. FSU is a storied program. It would be crazy if he picked one of those two. That would be a real M. Night Shyamalan twist.
-
Especially with him and Aaron duking it out for that backup RB spot with Trey.
-
Hahah! Final 14! Let's hope we stay up there as he goes in for more trimmings. If we get a visit I'll be happy. If they come check us out and make another choice, I can walk away a lot more satisfied every time.

I tink dey be runnin scurred. Some Texas fans can really act like children sometimes. It makes me not want to go visit my grandparents in Austin anytime soon.
-
Wow I called that one! Told you Rep. The backlash was coming!
-
Prepare for the backlash from older Sker fans that think friend'ing players on facebook is freaky, childish, and should be outlawed. When I was in college I did it. It's fun to be friends with Huskers, and that is a scientific fact!
-
Exactly. Mack Brown doesnt even need to exert as much effort into recruiting as our staff does. Mack Brown is nothing but a dirty old man that looks like he just brushed his teeth with a stick of butter. Look at what a creepy old geezer he is. Stick of butter comment EZ = hilarious!

It was great to go back and revisit this recruiting class. I hope you continue to do these Andy cause they are freaking sweet. Very nice work sir!

Grimble and Chickillo on the ends. That would be vicious!
