  1. Offensively I'd say we're slightly better, but this year's defense doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as last year's.

Yes I would say we have the potential to have a better offense this year. We have some playmakers and speed, yet the ghost of SW and BC keeps coming back and we try to throw the ball too much with a running qb when we have very capable rb's. Very frustrated with the playcalling from the 2nd qtr on.

  2. stop talking about the play calling and Watson. That's uninformed fan talk. Games are won and lost with heart, solid fundamentals, talent and coaching

Simply put, we lack mostly in the quarterback position where 3 turnovers and lack of a real quarterback are glaringly obvious. Gotta get the next guy ready asap. Martinez is a nice slot back or flanker but not a QB.

Defense did the best they could but we don't have anything close to the line we had in 09. Their was a lot asked of that defense tonight, Wisc is the total package right now.

Realistically we have a lack of offensive identity and no quarterback. And where is the counter- trey, the play that WE taught the NFL?

This loss was as bad as I can remember.

    Thanks for contradicting yourself.

  3. I'm curious as to where the "screaming and cursing" was. Did not see it tonight.

Your tv must not have worked tonight. Most of his screaming was at the microphone attached to his head, but after a while he realized they sucked. So much for competing.

  4. 1. I might be the only one that likes Beck's playcalling. It isn't his fault his frickin QB can't make a play.

    2. Sean Fischer has a much of a chance at an open field tackle as I do. Why is Sean Fischer playing? I think the LB play is probably the worst aspect of the defense.

    3. How much longer is the Taylor Martinez experiment going to go on? Since we don't need a RB, can we use three scholly's on QBs?

    4. The DB's aren't that bad. It's the lack of a pass rush-pressure. They definately are not what we are used to.

This is the same problem we have had in the last 1/2 decade. You have to call the plays to your players strenghts. You can't call an option if Peyton Manning is your QB.

    Yeah, Fischer got schooled today

Did Burkhead get salmenilla during the first half? Cus he was non existent.

Do we even have a pass rush?

  5. Keep in mind we're playing the best tema in the conference, and possibly one of the best in the country. The rest of the season won't be this bad. We'll still be pretty competitive.

You never know, we could meet them on a neutral field for the championship and end up beating them like we were for most of the 1st half.

    competitive...does that mean mediocre?

  6. All the thoughts, complaints, fears, concerning lower level competition came to fruition this game.

Fresno state played on the same level of competition as us.

The Wyoming game wasn't as close as the final score shown.

Tenn-chat was proud of their performance against us.

The preseason results are very similar to what conference play will show.

  7. I'd like to add that the personal foul call on Kellog in the 4th qtr. What the f*(k was that. Another jobber. No it didn't determine the outcome of the game, but a couple of calls kepts drives alive. Still think the refs sucked donkey D!ck. Look at the penalties. 10-2 or whatever

  8. Bo Pelina method:

    Be rude to the media.

Lie to the fans and media.

Don't show up in big games.

Drop F*** bombs on national TV

You are right on man we shouldn't have hired BO we should have hired the other coach we were pursuing...You know TURNER GILL he is really good. Actually I take that back we should have just kept Billy. All this talk on BO is BS get a life.

Insightful analysis on your part. Keep posting cause you provide great value to this board. Get a Life.

  9. Still feels like we are in the big 12 with the job the refs are giving us. The PI in the first half was a joke. The d. holding in the 4th qtr was a joke. The fact that they had to review Rex's td run was pathetic. Many holding calls they missed. Pretty pathetic job by the zebras.

  10. Martinez is the one who threw HORRIBLE picks. Our Receivers were open.

Shouldn't have been passing on 15 out of 17 plays in that stretch or whatever it was. Up 14-13 on the road? RUN. Easy call.

I don't know what is with people always coming to Taylor's defense, but come on. Our wide receivers were running free, and he throws the ball behind them. He doesn't know when to drop the ball off, and believes he is the team.

Lets not forget our QB fumbled the ball too. He is the weak link on offensive. Everything is progressing but him.

Martinez still can't read through his progressions. Many times Rex was open out of the backfield for a modest game instead of a pick. Too many times he throws to his first read even if they are double covered.

  11. Martinez is the one who threw HORRIBLE picks. Our Receivers were open.

His play calling still sucked. Burkhead disappeared in the first half. Then to start the 2nd half off with a pass. Come on. Let's show the world that our qb really can't pass.

    Run the damn ball.

They are running it to end the 3rd qtr and have gained about 7 yds a carry.

  12. how did he get caught from behind? he's so quick.

He is quick, but there is a difference between quick and fast. He is shifty and able to reach top speed in a short period, but I think there are several other players on the roster that would beat him in the 100m dash.

  13. I am looking for at least 2 and up to 6 tickets for the Nebraska vs Wyoming game. I live in Colorado and would like to drive up and see the Huskers play in Cowboy country. Let me know if your selling or have any good leads. Thanks!!

    :bigredn:

I have 2 tix. Sect 22. Live in Colorado also.

  14. I always thought JL would make one hell of an I back. It's too bad the talent wasn't around then or the coaching staff didn't move him to that position early in his career. The kid was athletic and had moves.

  15. If Starling makes it, I don't see him RS. He plans on playing baseball for NU also. This means he is eligible for the MLB draft after 3 years. Would Bo risk losing a year of playing time for a person that has the potential of only being on campus 3 years? If he is good enough to play, then he will play early.

  16. No matter how minimal anyone thinks this may be, it is blowing up on the Web. Front page of MSN. Fox Sports is showing it. I am surprised ESPN doesn't have it up yet.

    "Coaches joke hurts servicemen"

Talk about bad press. That sure doesn't shed a positive light on the program.

Here's how you know it's not a real story. If it was, when the University makes it right with this sailor - and they will - it won't get coverage. It'll get a blurb here and there, but it won't be front-page news.

The reason this is front-page right now is that the press tends to stick together. You've heard of the "coaches fraternity," right? There's something similar amongst the press; they all have the same goal in mind. They all need a story. They all have each other's backs when it comes to stuff like a big, mean, awful football coach snapping at a poor, just-doing-their-job reporter.

Case in point, Mike Gundy's famous "I'm a man! I'm 40!" rant. Gundy justifiably went off on an idiot reporter who did a hatchet job on Gundy's quarterback, Bobby Reid. The reporter was Jenni Carlson of The Oklahoman, a paper as two-bit as the JournalStar. Nobody nationally reads Carlson's articles, but locally, Gundy read it and was pissed. Next news conference he gave Carlson a piece of his mind, and she very much deserved it. Guess who the national media sided with? Stewart Mandel wrote a lengthy piece on it in his mailbag later that month in which he valiantly rode to the rescue of Ms. Carlson - all the while completely missing the reason(s) for the disconnect between coaches and the media, or fans and the media.

The media sides with the media.

It doesn't matter if it is a real story or not. It is the University of Nebraska (particularly the football team) spurning the Military. That is the public perception. A good way to piss off a lot of Americans is to be anti-military.

And about Gundy, they still show clips of his outburst 3 or so years after the fact. I think he was in the right too for defending his player, but that doesn't mean it didn't bring negative press to OSU.
