  1. This was my fourth home game this year & the referees are the only consistent group on the field most of the time. I don't pin game results on the refs but have noticed that there has been numerous missed or botched calls both for the Big Red and on the Big Red. Holding goes on every play @ every position and other than Mike Smith @ Texas Tech, I don't think I have seen more than 3 holds called in a game. I like letting the players play but this is ridiculous. The intentional grounding call has so bad it was funny. The ball never got within 10 yds of the LOS and Reesing was still in the pocket, @ least they talked it over and got it right which they get props for. The Briscoe drop/fumble is not in their hands. It is a very quick judgment call that the booth or Bo could only challenge. Different angles make that play look like it could have gone either way. Another call that could have been on us was Suh's hit to the helmet on Reesing near the end, a no call that would probably cost Suh $15,000 in the NFL. :cop:

The refs have been bad in my opinion but at least for the most part they have been equally bad. Also remember that Big 8 refs disliked TO, but that was he was brutally honest on their postgame evaluations & called them out for missed calls.

If the Briscoe drop was not a fumble then no way in hell the McNeil fumble against OU was a fumble. Mike only got 1 foot down. I think it is amazing the inconsistencies with officiating across the NCAA. Yesterday I saw a couple of drops/fumbles that sure looked like fumbles that the refs called incomplete passes, yet the fumble last week still looks like a dropped pass.

  2. I thought it was one of the better officiating games...but thats just me. The only thing that pissed me off was the intentional grounding call that the refs had to call only because of the croud. There were a few no calls but it has been worse in other games this year.

I agree with ya. I didn't think the officiating was that bad. It has been a lot worse in other games. At least they made some calls against the opponent this game. And although late, they did make the correct intentional grounding call.

  3. Helu has shown he is the man to take Lucky's spot next year.

Next year yes. Thanks for putting that in there. Is it just me or does the line REFUSE to block for Lucky in big games. Whenever we play a tough opponent and we try to run the ball with Lucky, the line just folds and he has nowhere to go. Lucky has been a victim as far as I'm concerned. Sucks for him big time...oh well, he'll still get a shot at the next level.

The line blocks just as much for Helu as it does for Lucky. Lucky just doesnt see the cutback lanes. If there isnt a hole directly in front of Lucky he just runs into the back of his blockers. There were several runs last night where lucky could have gained huge chunks of yards if only he cut to one side or the other of the pile. As a sophomore Helu is light years ahead of where lucky was at the same point and may be a better back then him now. I am super excited to have this guy for the next couple years. He is only going to get better.

Good point, Lucky just doesn't have the vision running the ball. One of the first run plays of the day Lucky got the hand off, burst through the line and ran right into the back of lineman. He missed the huge hole to the right. That's the difference between a 12 yard gain and a 4 yard gain. I thought Lucky looked bad out there. He doesn't seem to like contact. Helu looked good against a good football team. He hit the holes hard, the one cut and go. He doesn't dance around.

  4. As bad as that game was, was anyone else as impressed with how Nebraska's 2nd team offense and defense performed against OU's 2nd teams at the end of the game? I know OU might have been playing 3rd-stringers, but I thought our 2nd team defense especially looked pretty good. Maybe this gives us hope next year against a team that will lose at least 4 of 5 starting linemen and possibly a 1st round NFL quarterback.

I think they should have pulled Ganz earlier. Game was over, let the backup play and spare Ganz the risk of getting injured.

  5. I'm in the castille must not touch the ball camp, but realistically where do we put him?

Could he be a decent Linebacker? Possibly, but I doubt it. He isn't really fast enough, and he definitely doesn't have a linebacker mentality. On his goalline runs tonight he basically threw himself down at the 1 yard line because he didn't want to run into a wall and the only reason he even scored on that series is because Suh came in at FB and manhandled three OU players at the point of contact. There is no chance this kid runs up in run support and lays out a HB or sacks a QB off the edge.

D-Line? Probably not. He doesn't have the motor for DE and his mentality was already covered. Plus we really don't need him at DT, expecially if he is just going to get pushed backwards every down.

FB? Likely could play here if he gets the blocking assignments down and he actually could be a solid run blocker, but the fact is he's a HB , not a good one right now but maybe if he rides the pine for the next three games and puts in some serious work on his mentality and his game he could develop into a solid back next year.

He is fast enough to be a rb, but not fast enough to be a lb? Aren't rb's generally faster than lbs?

  6. I just had a problem with the offense on the final series.

I thought they were trying too hard to score a touchdown. They didn't stick to the running game and we're trying to get too fancy throwing the ball, which led to the INT...

    That's all I got....

I agree, we went away from our gameplan that worked all game. Took a shot at the end zone, which we never did all game, and missed.

I would have liked to see us try to pound the ball a little bit in OT. No need to hurry, we got the hurrying out of the way by scoring at the end of the game. I think the momentum was on their side and a long time consuming drive would have tired out their D further and taken the crowd out of the game. It is what it is, another L.

Ummmm...we started with the ball on THEIR 25, not sure how much time we could have chewed off the clock.

An 8 or 9 play, 3 or 4 minute drive getting 2 first downs and then pounding it in for the score. I'm saying I think they were tiring, and running at them would have broken them down further.

  7. They may just be playing it safe having him boot it out of the endzone. Doesn't seem to me that he has been very consistent otherwise.

I just wonder why Bo didn't give Adi a shot at the 53 yd fg at the end of the half. I thought he had the booming leg. I am glad we at least gave it a shot instead of pulling a Callahan not even trying.

  8. When the 2 most penalized teams in the conference play and one of them gets called for only 2 penalties then there is a problem. The zebras missed the facemask on Ganz, along with a flase start by their H back on the goalline. Let alone several holding calls.

  9. I too am waiting on my tix I purchased from baylor. I just emailed them this morning. Hopefully I'll get a response soon. It is only 2 weeks away and I am getting a little nervous. My bags are packed, hotel booked, but no tix.

Has your credit card been charged yet?

Oh yeah, it was charged, and I've paid for it yet. It was charged back in august when I purchased the tix. Hopefully they will show up in the next couple of days...speaking of which, i should go check the mail now.

  10. You see the looks bo gave to Barney after a couple of holding penalties that took us out of field goal range at the half. At least after the second penalty they yanked the guilty party out of the game. I am sick of these players committing penalty after penalty and still being allowed to play.

  12. Did anyone catch the 2002 NE/Texas game on FCS Central last night? Lord's final second interception gave me a stomachache all over again, like I was watching it for the very first time.

I would have if I had known it was on. By the time I flipped the channel over they were doing post game interviews with Mack Brown and Chris Simms. There sure wasn't crap on tv last night so I would have liked to see it.

  14. Isn't this the same sh#t we tried last year?

We didn't even sniff the backfield tonight after the first quarter.

Right on, that's exactly what it felt like. Did Chase even get hit?

No. How pathetic is that? We didn't prevent them from scoring on a drive until the 4th quarter when Gabbert was in.

Actually Daniel was hit a few times after he threw the ball, but never sacked.

Whoohoo, time to party, CD was pressured a couple of times, but never sacked!!!

  15. I do have a question, What is a "true fan"? I've always wondered that.

One that doesn't take something a coach said, post it in his signature in 48 font and make some smart ass remark.

That's fine. I fall in line like a good little sheep, hand all the players trophies and accept that we aren't a very good football team. But hey we will be back in at least FOUR MORE YEARS. There does that make me a "True Fan"?

I LOVE BO. Is that better? Am I a "True Fan" now?

Good call, you always were buddy buddy with BC. Crawl back in the hole you came from.
