  1. I think it is a great move. Wish it would have happened a year or two ago, but we are thin at LB and at least he has some senior experience. I think the statement he made about the previous staff shows a lot about the character of that staff. I bet he isn't the only player, present or past, that feels that way.

  2. If he did what she said he did, throw the book at him. But to me quite a few things are fishy, and possibly will come out when Andy has his day in court.

    Fishy:

    1. How do you have time to fondle and insert before she jumps away. (Panties or no panties)

    2. How do they prove insertion? (unless there is DNA, and then it goes directly to my first sentence)

    3. Why is the bond set at such an outragous number? (is it because her mom is a Judge?)

    4. Why wasn't he charged yesterday? (not enough evidence yet? they know they don't have enough evidence?, waiting for more evidence?)

    5. It still bugs me that you can call the cops at 12:32 am, and arrest someone at 1:00 am on charges this serous without investigating.

I'm sure most of you will attack me for this, but something doesn't seem right to me.

Like I said if he did what she said he did, he's in a world of trouble and should be.

They could have swabbed his hand at the scene or in jail...that would have been the fishy part in my mind. He is quite a bit bigger than she is, so it wouldn't have taken much to overpower her and slip his hand up there real quick (his is an lineman, they are supposed to have quick hands and feet - remember?). Bond was probably so high because he tried to kick the butts of not one, but six cops, and the judge read in court yesterday a detailed account of that part of the police report when she set the bond. He wasn't charged yet because they want to either take it to a grand jury, where only the prosecution has an advantage of keeping everything secret until trial, or they just want to make sure that they get all the charges right the first time. I would be totally upset if you couldn't call the cops on something this serious and he was still walking....but then I have daughters. I guess you would just let a rapist go, too, until you could take him to court? Don't think so.

I am not attacking you, but the cops, and really the judge, did what they are supposed to do. He is lucky he didn't get shot if he went after the cops like they are saying he did...or at least tazzered. In my mind, the criminals have too many rights, and I am glad that they are taking this matter seriously, because it is a very serious matter. This wasn't just a prank, this was a felony. I am sure if this was your daughter you would feel a whole lot differently about it. I don't care who you are, you don't take those kind of liberties with a young lady, no matter who she is either - whether her mom is a judge or the janitor....or even if she was a stripper. Everyone has rights.

Yes they do, including the accused. Give him his day in court. Innocent until proven guilty.

  3. now Purify will probably not be drafted and Nicks has no chance of going second round as some projects put him, maybe not even first day depends on what else happens with this

I doubt Nicks is penalized... "Coach, I got ticketed for being at a loud party". If he impressed the NFL scounts and coaches, he'll go on day 1.

Purify on the other hand, has shown to completely lack common sense. I wouldn't want him on any team I coached. He's trouble waiting to happen.

Nicks was arrested though, not just ticketed. It sure isn't going to raise his draft stock. And Mo is on probation. Not sure what the conditions of his probation are, but this can't help. Jail time anyone?

  4. From Husker Journal:

    FEBRUARY 14, 2008. PREP STAR

GABE LYNN, DB, 6-1, 180, 4.4, TULSA (JENKS), OKLAHOMA

Gabe has offers from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Missouri, North Carolina and Kansas State.

“I’m going to North Carolina Junior Day’s this weekend.” said Lynn, “Coach John Blake is recruiting me, he’s a cool guy.”

“Coach Blake told me that I could play early there, just show up and I will have a spot. Coach Butch Davis and John are both from the Tulsa area.”

“Phillip Dillard (Nebraska) is my brother.” he said, “He just tells me do what is best for me. I do like Nebraska game day atmosphere. The program is pretty cool; it’s all about football there.”

“Nebraska coaches can’t call recruits, I haven’t called them yet.”

“Coach Pelini has been successful every place he has been, Nebraska, Oklahoma and LSU. His defenses are always ranked high.”

“I like Oklahoma, its close to home.” said Lynn, “I grew up hearing about the Sooners, it’s been a part of my life.”

“I call the coaches (Oklahoma) all the time and they are reaching out to me. They tell me things I need to know.”

“I like Oklahoma State, its only a one hour 45 minute drive. I like the staff their too.” said Lynn, “OSU program is coming up, they are getting closer every year.”

“Oklahoma State is spending lots of money on their facilities, stadium and new weight room.”

“I don’t have any favorites right now, I’m wide open.” he said, “I would like to decide before the season starts, but I don’t want to force anything.”

Gabe added that he will attend Nike camp in Texas next month and will camp at Oklahoma and Nebraska this summer.

Is that how Coach Blake gets recruits? Just show up. I don't like that philosophy. I want someone who shows up and works their tail off and earns their spot.

  5. Different track?

People who run at college pro days also record faster numbers usually, I think, because of the faster track.

Also, with HS kids, these are all very unofficial times...even at the pro level, unofficial tends to be faster than official. There's probably a lot of fudging going on...

Rivals always seems to have inflated numbers to sell subscriptions.

After further review, Mo's 40 time on rivals when he was recruited was 4.45 and Octaviens was 4.5.

  7. Maurice Purify....Good luck Purify

just curious ...what were you doing there?

    . . . the threadstarter . . . IS MAURICE PURIFY!! :hellloooo

Edit: Did anyone see that World-Herald article this week about Purify? It said he's been working his butt off, dropped fifteen pounds and shaved time off his 40. Sounds very optimistic.

It is too bad he didn't work that hard when he was @ NU. At one point, didn't he balloon up to almost 240?

I never thought he was ever over 230 but that could just be me.

I thought I remembered reading, may have been last year before spring practice, that he was up around 238 and the coaches didn't seem too happy with that. Any way, wish him well, just thought he would become a more productive player in this offense.

Imagine if you will Emmitt Smith wearing a Nebraska football uniform.

Yeah, that may have been worth checking out. Smith of course ended up at the University of Florida before a Hall-of-Fame NFL career.

As the story goes, Smith was one of those big fish that got away from the Huskers in the final hours before national signing day.

Dave Gillespie, who spent several years on the Nebraska staff, was on the phone with someone at Smith’s press conference to reveal his decision. It was down to three schools. Nebraska was one of them.

Always one for a show, Smith was supposedly planning to draw a school out of a hat.

“My guess would have been that every sheet of paper in there said Florida,” Gillespie said.

There have been a few players like Smith who got away from Nebraska over the years. Last year, highly-touted San Antonio high school linebacker Travis Lewis decommitted two days before signing day in favor of Oklahoma.

David Ross, a California cornerback with some of those recruiting stars by his name, had Nebraska thinking he was headed here until he changed his mind the morning of signing day, and inked with Oregon State instead.

Now a linebacker with the Detroit Lions, Buster Davis was undecided in the final days. Davis said he wished he could attend both Nebraska and Florida State. He went with Florida State.

And few folks can forget the circus when hot-shot quarterback Carlyle Holiday kept Husker fans on the edge of their seats before turning down Big Red in the final hour for … Notre Dame.

Josh Freeman was a late loss before the early-signing period, and there have been others that had recruiting fans crying on their keyboard.

Of course there have been a few big gets in those final days, too. Does Tommie Frazier ring a bell? Frazier visited NU on the final recruiting weekend and his decision was down to the last day. That turned out O.K.

Days like today always brought some nervous feelings around the football offices, Gillespie said. Coaches weren’t allowed to be on the road, so they were left waiting for letters-of-intent to arrive.

“Everybody kind of knew the sound of the fax machine when it started,” Gillespie said. “Everybody hears that and their ears might perk up and they might run over to the fax machine and see what was coming through. If it wasn’t a letter-of-intent, there might be some words that you wouldn’t want to hear, and they’d go back to doing what they’re doing.”

There were always one or two committed players you worried about, but most were slam dunks, Gillespie said.

“(But) until you have that fax there is always some question,” he said.

The last-minute surprises of signing day have probably diminished over the years. Players begin committing — and decommitting — earlier these days. Factor in how public recruiting has become, and there don’t seem to be many secrets anymore.

With this year’s Nebraska recruiting class, little drama is expected today. Anybody see Baker Steinkuhler going somewhere else? Could you suddenly tell Bo Pelini and Tom Osborne thanks, but no thanks?

Of course, there’s never any guarantees in recruiting. Just go back to last year at Dominguez High in Compton, Calif.

Ross, the star cornerback, had filled out the paperwork for Nebraska the evening before signing day. He was supposed to meet Coach Keith Donerson at 8 a.m. to fax it to Lincoln.

“He showed up at 10 o’clock wearing an Oregon State sweatshirt, and then we knew he already signed and sent his fax into Oregon State,” Donerson said.

It seems Ross, who redshirted last season but should see action this year, liked to make college coaches happy. He was in Lincoln for the Nebraska-Texas game, loved it and soon committed. Trips to Oregon State and Arizona State followed, with Ross committing to those schools also.

Ross and his coach had a lengthy life-lesson talk after the signing day dust had settled.

“They’re still 17- or 18-year-old kids, and it’s hard to say no to some people,” Donerson said.

It goes both ways, though. One of Donerson’s players this season committed to Utah. This week they inquired about the player’s paperwork, and were informed the spot was no longer available.

Regardless, Dominguez High will send at least five players to Division I schools this season. After Ross’ last-minute decommitment last season, Bill Callahan called to say Nebraska would no longer be recruiting Dominguez players.

It wasn’t long ago Donerson heard from Nebraska again. Pelini was on the line.

“He said, ‘Don’t worry about it, Nebraska is still going to keep recruiting Dominguez.’”

I'm glad Pelini is on the way to cleaning up the messes BC left.

  10. It seems that rivals picks 27 to 30 5 star players a year. If that is the case and there are 4 classes to choose from then that is 5 out of 108 or 4.6%. But that isn't completely accurate because some younger 5 star players may still make it. More research is needed to come to a conclusion.

  11. So why don't we have as many player transfers as we did with the last coaching change? Does this make a statement about BC. In fact I see the opposite effect happening, players leaving other schools to play for NU.

  12. Well, here's an excellent biography of Bill Gates. It might be just what you're looking for - it delves deep into his personality and is a fascinating account of his pioneering days at Microsoft...I didn't read all of it, mind, but it looks like the reviews agree with my initial reaction.

That said, it's only a 2.5-page assignment, so maybe Wikipedia is all you need...if that book is at your library though, I'd recommend you check it out, it is a good read, even if you don't read the whole thing :)

FWIW, I would be careful using wikipedia. I had a professor that said most schools won't accept papers that use wiki as a source.
