  1. Why not just post a paragraph, and link to the article instead of copying the whole thing?

Hey thanks for your input saunders45. Next time I'll post a paragraph and link it since you're intimidated by long articles. I'll see if I can find some pictures to go with it too just to make it easy on you.

I can tell you're joking, but I would really enjoy that.

  2. This really was a pretty good read. Prior to this, I'd always clicked on the link, seen the length of the article and clicked BckSpce. I'm glad I finally read it though. I've been told Thomas Paine wasn't considered to be a very bright man in his time. I think his writing style reflects that of American culture more so than a lot of other 17-1800 American writers I've read. Maybe he was just a trendsetter :dunno

  3. I said the same thing as Knap a few months ago. The violence will always exist in humanity.

This might be a logical fallacy, but here goes.

    A=B, B=C

    Therefore, A=C

    By that same logic

Humans are responsible for creating all religions

Religions are the cause of some human conflicts

Therefore, Humans are the cause of all religious conflicts

Once you've said that, there's really nothing left.

That's the way I look at it anyhow. If you were to completely remove religion it might make a difference in our lifetimes and the lifetimes of the next few generations, but in the grand scheme of things it won't make a difference. If you could take a look at the issue from earth's lifetime the amount of violence in the world wouldn't change. That's because religion is just one excuse used by humans to commit atrocities, and if it weren't religion it'd be something else.

Then how do you reduce harmful actions in the world? What needs to change? If leaving behind errant beliefs that comprise part of your worldview doesn't account for any change in behavior, what's left to do?

Nothing. It's a sad reality, but all of the actions you can take to try and change the world are worthless. I could sit here forever and try to convince people to believe what I believe all day, and to some degree I do, but it's pointless. The world seems to do an eternal balancing act. If you eliminated religion, something would replace it. The most prominent candidate to me is naturalism, or something like that. I know I always feel spiritually rejuvenated when I go to the zoo, golfing, walking, etc. Eventually, people would create a doctrine and follow it to the T. It would be a religion of sorts and people would go to war on both sides. It's fun to debate things like this, and it has certainly altered my life in some way, but it's pointless on an even larger scale. It's like thorns crackling in a fire. It doesn't mean a thing.

  4. What a neat idea! I'd love to do this....

What stage of life are you in if you don't mind me asking? Student? Done with school? Married with kids? - screw you honey, I'm leaving every weekend to visit footballs stadiums!

    Just curious...

    :rollin...my dad.

  5. Probably, but it's no different for us. Since 2007 we've pulled in six 4* players from Texas. 3 of them didn't pan out or make it on campus (Whitmore, Castille, Williams) and one of them is a JUCO. The rest of our Texas roster is made up of 3* kids.

I'm guessing the majority of those Texas kids in the Big 10 are 3*.

You sure about this? I could swear CG and Burkhead were 4*s.

Look up their names here if you want...

Yes, CG & RB are already included in those 4* figures.

    Sorry I misread it.

  6. Actually, if I am remembering correctly shorter (6'1"-6'4") OL are more suited to run blocking and taller OL are more suited to pass blocking. The taller guys tend to have longer arms and are better at dropping back and pass blocking while the shorter guys are better at pulling and laying blocks on the perimeter because they can get better leverage.

Pretty much right, but only advantage shorter OL have is that it's more natural for them to run block. It depends on what height he plays at when he run blocks, or how low he naturally fires out.

  7. I LOVED TO HATE THE BIG-TELEVEN netwerk just because it seemed like it was the only game being shown last season...and was really really boring.

    But on the bright side...

The world will end in 2012 :LOLtartar

:laughpoundCouldn't have said any of this better myself.

  8. If Nebraska were to join a 16 team Big 10 superconference with 4 divisions, how would the conference championship game participants be determined? Certainly getting a CCG is a BIG reason the Big 10 wants to expand...

Oops, I gotta edit this since I see you mentioned the 4 divisions.

Pick the winner of each division and put them in a two game playoff. It's really the only way possible with so many teams.

Yeah, that's what I think would happen. Some European soccer leagues do similar things.

  9. Nothing about the act of abolishing any form of central government creates "the radical notion that nobody else is your property and that you have no right to initiate violence or theft against anyone to fulfill your subjective whims." People can initiate force against one another and the only thing that prevents them is a shared sense of these personal rights or the fear of reciprocal force, but as we've demonstrated a half-a-hundred times, not all people share that philosophical position and for a variety of reasons only one of which has anything to do with a government. In addition an initiating force might neither 1-share the sense of personal rights or 2-need worry about reciprocal force because they are more powerful than the force they are acting upon.

It's, honestly, a question of priorities. Anytime you gain security, you give up freedom. The only way you can have both is if you greatly diminish the effect of both. They have absolute freedom there from the sounds of it. I would certainly venture to say the freedom of our nation's people was much greater during the time of the rum-runners and mobsters. Major centralized agencies were in their infancy. In most cases government creates these people by passing laws that make their undertakings illegal. However, without government it is only natural that someone would vie for power as private armies, obviously, are in this case. Private armies did so in early Roman times too. People always will, and that's, really, the splinter in the lion's paw, to me

  10. British physicist Stephen Hawking said this week aliens might be traveling through the cosmos right now - but he warned they might have evil intentions.

To further paraphrase, he said we shouldn't necessarily seek out extra-terrestrials life because it may be more advanced than we are, and may have evil intentions. The way I look at it, if we meet it we're most likely more advanced, and if it meets us it won't matter. There are ethical concerns in doing so, but disregarding those, it's in man's inquisitive nature to seek alien life.

As far as the rest of the article is concerned, it seems really promising.

  11. wow that cover is sweet, anyone know when this issue comes out?

I think they hit the shelves on around mid June or the first of July. Could be wrong, but thats around the time I find one at the grocery/convience store.

Yep, June or July is when I always see them too.

  12. The Jets got Shawn Green of Iowa fame, and last I heard he was their new starter (somebody correct me if I'm wrong on that). Considering how well Lucky caught the ball and picked up blocks, you'd think that he could find a 3rd down back reserve role somewhere. Wish him the best.

Pretty sure Thomas Jones is still the starter there.

  13. If we line Taylor Martinez up at WR it will open up our offense so much. He could start at WR, then shift into the Wildcat, he could stay at WR and catch the ball, he could get a reverse and throw the ball. He will be someone that opposing defenses have to make sure they know where he is at all times.

That's what I think his role could be this year too. He could line up at wr and motion into the wildcat, catch balls, etc.
