It's not too complicated: Lampkin is tiny . . . and although he ran a 4.38 hand timed 40 without pads on he lacks elite football speed. Sterup (as discussed in detail in this thread) is already borderline too tall and is still growing. I have read the whole thread (long time HB reader, just now getting into the posting game), so I know the issues. My guess is Bo has told these guys that they will get evaluated this summer at camp to see if they are too tall or too small/slow with pads on. Sometimes in college football the exceptions can suprise you. That being said, is it worth risking two scholarships on these homegrown kids that may not have a good enough build/size/whatever. If we offer they commit. So I'm guess the coaches are going to make sure they see the potential that other schools see in them before they offer.

Get him here. Get him in the weight room. Make him huge. Move him around until you find a spot for him. If he gets taller, make a position where he just stands as close to the quarterback as he can get and just waves his arms around to try to swat down balls. I just don't get why we offer Evans, Marsh, and Cotton last year but aren't offering this kid and Lampkin. The coaches obviously know what they are doing, but I don't see it. That being said, I trust their opinions.

I'm going to throw Joe Ganz out there. I don't see Bo leaving for another 10 years or so, and by then Joe will likely have developed into a good coach. Maybe just wishful thinking.

Mel has Roy as the number 4 returning running back in the country, Paul as the 5th best returning wide reveiver, Prince at 3 at CB, and Alex at number 2. Castille is number 5 at fullback.
