While no one wants to admit it, NU has a higher percentage of blue hairs than anyone else in the nation. It's far more of a social event for them than a sweating bullets-fired up on 30 beers-ultra passionate-"win or die" SEC redneck screaming his lungs out is for them.

I remember going to the Baylor game in 1996 and being in the faculty section. I've honestly been to funerals with higher excitement than what that section had. Frankly is was disgusting as all they seemed to care about was going to get pizzas and sitting on their huge fat asses. Yeah, it was "Baylor" but I honestly never saw even "one" tenured prof yell, clap or even stand up the whole game. Damned if I know why they even go.

I think NU desperately needs younger blood for a better home field advantage. It's great we have fans that have attended for 10,000 consectutive years but somehow we need a changing of the gaurd.

  2. Reality BRI. We really want no part of the MNC in my mind. Total destruction, embarasment, a step back in the development of the program, faith in Bo. Not something we need. Play a BCS team, pray we miss a SEC/TCU team and we are golden, if and a very big IF we win the CCG.

I would disagree completely. There hasn't been a team that has looked absolutely dominant this year. Oregon has looked mediocre on defense. TCU has looked very good, but doesn't have to prove it week by week...they only have to get up for about 2 big games. Same with Boise. Auburn has had some squeakers to middle of the pack teams.

I think NU hangs with any of these teams.

  3. LSU knocked Alabama out of the BCS race today. They will probably move ahead of Nebraska in the BCS now, as well as in the human polls.

So, let's say that in a couple weeks, Alabama knocks off Auburn. If that happens, and LSU wins out, then Auburn and LSU will both finish with one conference loss. Auburn will fall below LSU in the polls, because of the timing of the loss. However, Auburn beat LSU earlier this year, and holds the SEC West division tie-breaker, so they would still go to the SEC championship game over LSU.

So, I was trying to look up what I thought was a BCS rule, couldn't find it, so I thought I'd ask you guys. Is there a rule that prevents teams who don't win their conference from competing for the BCS championship game? I seem to remember them revising the BCS with this rule after Nebraska went to the championship game in 2001 without winning the conference, but maybe my mind is playing tricks on me.

Anyways, I have a hard time believing we would be able to leap over TCU or Boise State anyways, so I'm not too worried. I just want to win the Big 12 conference and leave the league on a good note, but the BCS does create some interesting scenarios...

    Nope.

  4. I disagree. To be honest with you, I think what happened to other teams besides us helped us more than they hurt us.

I don't agree or disagree but I'm curious to hear why. Explain.

Yes, explain. I don't see how we were much helped today ...

Alabama is out of the picture. LSU still has to play Arkansas and won't make the SEC championship game unless Auburn loses two. Utah is out of the picture. Boise is going to have a hard time not getting jumped by a one loss BCS team. Oregon still has Arizona, Oregon State, and Cal. Auburn has to play Alabama and the SEC game. Still a lot of football left to be played.

There is no margin of victory factored into the BCS, so a close win over Iowa State isn't going to hurt NU unless the human pollsters vote them lower because of it.

  5. Interestingly enough, Watson's name has been mentioned on twitter by several sports writers, namely Rivals writer Tom Dienhart and CBS Sports writer Dennis Dodd.

Furthermore, I'm of the opinion that wherever Watson goes, Gilmore will go. Watson brought Gilmore with him to Nebraska from Colorado. My guess is Gilmore would be promoted to OC in that scenario.

Hypothetically speaking, if Watson does leave for a HC position and Gilmore follows, I'd like to see Ron Brown take over both WR & TE positions again like the old days. That'd mean one less position coach to hire and pay.

No way they would ever operate with less than a full staff of assistants.

  6. A LOT of things would have to go right. Schedule is too weak to have much of a chance unless a lot of other teams fall.

The rest of the schedule is very winnable. The team needs to focus on the task of winning the Big 12 and let the rest of the chips fall where they may.

  7. Was Gilmore out there dropping passes? Hmm...must have missed that...

A wr coach being held responsible because his wrs drop balls all over the place? Nah.....just blame the players.

It worked for Coz, Callahan, Bohl, etc...

Alright...your receiver just dropped a pass that hit him squarely in the hands and there was no one within 10 yards of him. Go coach him up. What would you do?

The receivers were in the right place constantly throughout the game. The routes were run pretty well. Blocking from them has been pretty good. The receiver has to catch the ball...that's on him. There's only so much a coach can do in that situation.

I'd agree, it's on the coaches if the receivers are out there every week dropping numerous balls, but that's really not happening.

  8. I see alot of tickets available for high number rows 80+. Just wondering how good/bad the view is from a seat like that in Memorial stadium. I imagine the atmosphere is still incredible but I don't wanna spend money on bad seats, if there even is one. And which sections should be avoided in Memorial stadium?

    I'd appreciate any input. Thanks.

Even the high rows in the end zones aren't terrible. You just don't want to get stuck under the overhang/behind a pole on either side of the field.

  9. I was talking to my friends at k st. game and I think we've won every toss this year. Does anyone know or know how to find out?

South Dakota State is the only game so far that NU hasn't won the toss. The official stats from each game list the coin toss.

  10. Putting one second back on the clock was the correct call. Say an extra second ticks off the clock when a timeout is called midway through the second quarter of a game. It's not treated the same way because the game doesn't end in that situation. You can consider that one second expiring at the end of a game an 'egregious error' because that error caused the game to end. It sucks, but that's the way it goes.

  11. I think his point more or less is we have no proof to suggest a great offense this year but we ALSO have no proof of any other player being capable of utilizing our offense. When the offense did well (or better than suck last year) Lee was the quarterback under center.

Right now, evidence to suggest any other quarterback could take the reins of the offense really isn't there. But, being the incumbent and having the most experience, this gives Lee the most honest chance to be our guy.

That is exactly my point. I don't get the need to trash our guy in favor of more of our guys who we know next to nothing about.

What do we know about Cody Green? He can beat Baylor and he looked way over his head against Oklahoma, and he was fine in mop-up duty against the rest. He was a true Freshman and shouldn't be expected to be anything other than that - but nothing we saw last year makes him any better than Lee, and likely he would be a step down.

We know absolutely nothing about Taylor Martinez except that he was impressive in a game-like scrimmage.

We know a little bit more about LaTravis Washington, but less than we know about Green.

Denouncing Lee in favor our troop of unknowns doesn't make sense in the least. Denouncing Lee because he's not Dave Humm makes no sense whatsoever.

It also makes no sense to anoint Lee the starter. By all accounts, Lee hasn't done anything up to this point to separate himself from Green and Martinez. If the injury was really holding him back that much, and the coaching staff is looking for a "game manager," he should theoretically be in the lead right now, considering his experience and time in the system.

We don't know what a healthy Zac Lee is. It could quite possibly be pretty similar to the "injured" Zac Lee of last year.

I think that's missing his point though. Knapplc isn't annointing anyone. In my eyes, Lee is in fact separated from Martinez and Green because of the experience he has. Besides, Lee is without a doubt our most talented and mechanically sound passer we've seen so far. We saw what happened last year when we didn't have someone who could make plays with their arm, and I don't think the coaches want to go a direction with a guy that isn't going to do well in the passing game.

Also, I get the honest impression the coaches aren't looking for that "game manager" right now. They're looking for a guy that won't turn the ball over and can make plays, and big plays when he has to.

All in all we cannot completely cross out any name at this point. That said, Lee being our most experienced makes me believe he'll be our guy. Expect to see Martinez and Green get snaps, but I just don't see Lee losing the job to a either Green or Martinez yet. Maybe when the season rolls around we'll see who is the better in game quarterback. But right now, Lee is the choice I believe the coaches will make.

I would agree that at this point, because of his experience alone, Lee likely has the upper hand. Bottom line is, no one knows how injured Lee was last year and how much it affected his game. I tend to think that Martinez has too much upside to keep him behind Lee if they can get a solid grasp on controlling the offense.

I will gladly eat my words if Lee comes out and lights the world on fire, but I'm putting the chips on Martinez eventually taking the job this year.
