For most, doing something correctly is harder than doing it faster.  We can have plenty of fast receivers, for example, but if they can't run the route/catch/shift what good is being able to outrun the guy?

I'm with you, I don't fully understand why this effect is true. I'm just familiar with the research finding. I was studying this stuff when Frost was announced and so his quote about everything happening fast caught my eye. It might take me a bit, but if you're interested in it, I can probably find the studies that information comes from.

No, I disagree.  Practice doesn't make perfect.  Perfect practice makes perfect.  You can practice half assed and guess what, you'll be half assed during execution.  The percentage should be 100%/100%.

The current staff likes perfection, so yes preparation will be huge.

Interesting note about this. For speed oriented tasks, you're supposed to train doing it fast first and doing it accurately second.

  3. Guys, stay on topic. This is about Bell.

Edit: when I say stay on topic, and you reply to my stay on topic comment it takes the conversation off topic. I'm just going to delete those responses right away. Feel free to send me a message or start a dialogue about how you would like the forum to be moderated in the appropriate forum.

If a conversation is evolving and you find it interesting, feel free to make a post that says "this is interesting, I'm going to start a thread here (with a link)" and continue the dialogue.

  4. I'm more or less an unabashed liberal. I'd love to hear the viewpoint of anyone who supports this. I live in a bit of an echo-chamber. It also seems as though there's a relatively high level of bi-partisan position on being against this move. When I talk to folks (either side of the aisle), there seems to be concern over the influence of money in politics. Everyone has their own solutions, but is this an issue that we could actually get behind on a bi-partisan basis?

Not looking to pick a fight or anything, just some perspective.

Also true. But the turnout by minorities is higher than normal, not sure how much compared to the write in voting.

Yeah, it's clearly a perfect storm of events. It's interesting that it took this much going the democrats way to sneak out a win. I don't know if they'll ever have it happen again.

AP is calling the election in favor of Doug Jones.

The reporting I've seen says the difference has been increased minority turnouts and decreased Republican turnout.

Right now, the write in vote explains the margin of victory.

People around here are flipping out about this snow(myself included). I'm probably about a 1.5 hour drive from Yoakum. Maybe the excitement helps a little :dunno

Yeah, my students are going nuts. It's kind of amusing. I wouldn't mind it snowing every day JM is supposed to visit elsewhere.

We're also going to work on getting rid of public service loan forgiveness again. Give breaks to the top, take it from the middle and tell them that by doing so it'll trickle down to the middle and they'll have more money.

  9. Alright folks.

That's a wrap. As the one that merged all the threads initially, I think it's fitting that I be the one to close the door.

It was a fun ride. I might continue to sift through and copy rumors and stuff just so we can have it documented what the rumor mill said, compared to the posted time line.

  10. I'm going to pull in what I said in a different post (where it didn't belong).

I don't think he was a plant. I think he was a guy who thought he knew the right way. As such, I think he ended up putting a lot of handcuffs on a coach who MAY have been able to do some good work.

For better or worse, I don't think we ever got to see what FHCMR was capable of.

As I understand it he was forced:

    To maybe not recruit JUCOs

To use Billy Davany (who could veto recruiting offers?)

    To implement rugby style tackling

    To hire Bob Diaco

I might be missing some things. The long and short is, it sounds like FADSE micromanaged Riley. My impression is, this played out poorly rather than helping FHCMR.

I think this is potentially an important asterisk to FHCMR's tenure. He is without a doubt a man of high character. I would hate it if FADSE cost him the opportunity for future jobs where he could be successful even if his time with us needed to be done.

Sobering quote from Scott about the reality of how this isn't all roses for him and his family the way it is for us as fans. Everyone should read this quote and cheer like absolute mad for Scott to succeed here - not for us, but for him. Wow.

Yup. I think we're all behind him. I just wonder if we can stand the growing pains. He asked for a 7 year contract for a reason. If we as fans get impatient, it's going to be rough. He went to UCF because it was the right fit, he went to Nebraska because it's home. Getting fit the way it needs to be has the potential to take a bit IMO.

riley, while being a nice guy, was obviously a pushover

I don't know how true this is.

There's only so much you can do when your boss, the guy that officially gives the schollies says you gotta do something. I think the more details that come out, the more I buy into the idea that Riley was handcuffs.

Hey blame knapplc I am sure plenty of you still hate me. I remember that one guy that is no longer on the board I think he was banned for life or something that hated me with the passion of a thousand suns. I cannot remember his name though, he was a soccer coach at IWCC or something I think?

To your credit, you also toned it down a ton.

So I'm still sold on Frost after my text chat I had before the game. However Moos has done his due diligence and reached out to several big names. If Frost does back out we already have a plan B that I would be VERY happy with if Frost backs out of his word. We are still fully expecting Frost to sign the dotted line though
