  1. There are two questions at play here for me.

The first is his action. I think it's deplorable and he should've been cut loose from the university right away without appeal. This has been done and actions have been taken one way or the other.

This seems to be what most of the board is caught up on. I may not agree with the action that was taken here, but whatever not my say.

The second is what the university told the student. If a university representative told Avery if you do xyz you can get back in school then we need to honor that in my opinion. I may not agree with this, but it is a separate issue then 1. This is where my contention with the issue comes in. At the very least communication was not clear. However it's important to understand what was said from university reps to Avery (be it you can appeal in 1 year, be it if you do xyz you can come back, whatever).

    So my stance is this:

If he was told he can appeal, I'm perfectly happy with how it played out. I love the university and the football team, but the reason I love that is that we act with integrity and respect as a uni, fan base, and football team (traditionally). I have no qualms kicking off a player for showing his junk in an uninvited way.

If an admin person told Avery if you do this you can come back and the university reversed their decision, I have issues. The uni needs to be accountable for what they say and act with decency and respect. It sounds like they didn't do great with the appeal timeline but even that's forgivable.

However, we need to get over the action he did and focus on what the uni told him as the potential issue here.

  2.

He stuck around for an entire year and did everything that was asked of him. If the university decides not to let him in an possibly stringing him along this whole time, really doesn't look that good.

Has he done anything wrong since then? He was banned from the University for one year. If they weren't going to allow him back, ban him for life. I find it hard to believe he would have stuck around, instead of attending school closer to home, without some kind of commitment from the school. Then again, we know how the Administration handles commitments.

I may be misremembering but wasn't it 3 years (or something like that) with the possibility of review and revise at 1 year? For some reason I got it in my mind that it was a multi year ban that could be reduced to one year. I could be completely wrong though.

Obviously we dont have a stellar pool of in state talent like most places. Unfortunate yes. But building our walk on program back up could give us that identity or attitude we have lacked for a long time. In state kids sick of hearing how great the SEC is, sick of seeing their old mans favorite team get embarrassed by Wisconsin, hungry to compete, hungry to give more effort than the 4 star from Cali who doesnt really care.

You take your scrappy kids, I'll take my 4 star kids who may or may not care from California. We'd win 85-10.

Having said that though, the model of Nebraska kids getting huge in the S&C program, plus other, with sprinkled in talent from the coasts in skill positions is always a winner provided the coaching and S&C is.

Anyone who thinks like the op can fedex me there tickets. I can find someone to go.

How some of you are considered adults is mind boggling to me. It's two games. I hated last Saturday as much as the next person but it's one game. Let's hope our guys respond this week and finish the season strong. 11-2 is a HELL of a year. This team is only graduating 13 kids. The sky is not falling.

RELAX and enjoy the little bit of college football we have left.

The HOW we lose has to be important. If football was just about wins and losses, then why don't people just check the final score after the game is over?

HOW we win is also important. We've beat some pretty crappy teams pretty handily, I'll give us credit. If a 9-4 win loss record beating crappy teams and losing to good ones is what Nebraska fans want or accept, then clearly seven years in I believe we can surely say we have our man in Bo Pelini.

Personally I don't think Nebraska should accept that. I think Nebraska's program and resources as a whole are far above this yearly result.

It's hard to relax and enjoy a football game like that. I've said before, it's not just about winning or losing. When was the last time Nebraska played good football in all three phases of the game for a full season?

There are a lot of teams with bad losses. Honestly, the way WI has been playing I wouldn't be surprised if they win the B1G. Does that excuse the performance we put up, not at all. However, I'll take the WI loss over a loss to a team like Utah or Florida. Let ask a question. If WI, MSU, and NU win out, how do you feel about our season?

  5. Good places to eat?

Ian's pizza is a late night place that's really well known. It's on state street so will be a bit of a cluster F*** but it might be worth it. For more sit down have a nice meal sort of places, I'd look around capital square. I'm a big fan of Graze, but there are other mainstays like the old fashioned that are worth eating at. For breakfast I strongly recommend a place called Eldorado out on Williamson, you need to call to reserve a seat but it's worth it.

If you narrow things down for me a little more, I might be of better help.

  6. I live in Madison right now. Happy to make anyone suggestions and help out any way I can.

Here's the stuff the Alumni association is hosting: http://www.huskeralum.org/s/1620/index.aspx?sid=1620&gid=1&pgid=252&cid=2049&ecid=2049&crid=0&calpgid=419&calcid=1741

I haven't heard about anything at Tanners. This year the Alumni group has been meeting at Babes instead of Tanners, so I don't know if that's still going to be happening. Tanner's is owned by a Nebraska guy, but he lives in Omaha and the bar was decidedly Badgers oriented when I was there earlier this year.

I suppose this could go here. I really enjoy watching our Defense, they are fun to watch.....like almost 2010 fun.

I'm gonna do myself a favor-and everyone on the board for that matter-and try to talk more positively about the play of the defense and punt return unit. Defense is really starting to hit their stride. You can just see it. And while yesterday, we didnt Gregory make an impact on the stat sheet, we have to understand that that's not what it's always about to be effective. And seeing our Dtackles play just arouses me. Even the sh**ty game in East Lansing, them guys were ballin. And Kevin William's recent and sudden success and impact really makes me so proud and happy for him. I think this defense is rapidly transpiring into the unit we dreamed of with this influx of upgraded talent.

What makes me even more giddy is that they will all return, except Gregory probably. We do have some great talent on the defense and it is only going to get better. I think we have really good talent on the offense but they don't seem to have gelled together like the defense has.

On the bright side we in theory get Moss back.

There's a kid on the roster at WR named De'Mornay Pierson-El .........maybe they should give him a look?

We have! He is a great athlete, but does not know the playbook. He played in the 4th qtr. and was involved in the bunching of WR. It is only a matter of time.

LMAO everyone's excuse. Its not hard to teach a WR slant, out & Up, curl route, post rout, fade, corner route. Every team in the nation has Freshman wr's that can run pass routes and catch. Its not that hard.

the #9 and 10 ranked receivers in the country in yards are FRESHMAN.

Wasn't he the one that ran into Hovey causing the interception on the final play of the game? I know Hovey has a role in this too, but that's kinda a big deal.

  9. MO, I'm using different numbers than Landlord when I'm finding my turnover numbers, so I don't know who is right. Nonetheless...

Last year, we had 7 turnovers through 5 games last year.

Of those, 2/7 were on the QB through five games. Both of them were on Taylor. A pick and a fumble in the first game against Wyoming.

He only played in 3 of those games. Tommy played in SDSU and Illinois games, and didn't account for a turnover.

If you include Taylor's only other game of the season, Minny, 3 of our 6 turnovers were on him, as he through a pick in that game.

    So, Taylor's 4 2013 games: 3/6 turnovers on QB

    For comparison:

    Tommy's First 5 2014 games: 6/12 on Tommy, 7/12 on QBs (1 RKIII pick)

Taylor 2010 First 5 games: 5/10 on Taylor, 6/10 on QBs (1 Cody Green fumble)

Taylor's 2011 First 5 games: 5/9 on Taylor, 6/9 on QBs (1 Brion Carnes fumbles)

    What really matters:

2013 first five games: 2/7 on QB

2013 first five Tommy: 6/12 on TA, 7/12 on QBs

2014 first five games: 4/5 on TA

So, in conclusion, I'd say you have a legitimate beef, but overall we've reduced our turnover margin substantially, and TA appears to be slowing his rate of turnovers as well, albeit gradually. 6 turnovers in his third thru fifth games last year. I'll take reducing that clip to 1 per game and having some games with zero. I think he's progressing.

I don't know if anyone knows, but what is the average rate of TO's per game for P5 conference qb?
