  1. What is a fully matured coaching staff? Let me guess. A bunch of flavor of the week coaches that supposedly never make mistakes or get out coached. Hate to break it to you but even the mighty Nick Saban get out coached some days. I.e. Texas A&M.

EXACTLY!!!! There are NO perfect coaches like so many people on this board believe.

Not saying there are, what I'm saying is that we have some guys that are rather new. I think even with great talent right now this coaching staff might not be able to play for and win a NC. That being said I love our staff and I want to give them time to develop.

  2. Have a fully matured coaching staff, not a bunch of guys learning the job and trying to figure out when to stop being stubborn. A roster built for the league it's playing in, not a bunch of Big XII LB's playing in the B1G. An offense and a defense that matures the same year (and ideally doesn't have to reset instead of reload). A better turnover margin. A good bit of luck.

Talent recruited doesn't win champs, USC, the state of Florida and ND show that. Developing talent well doesn't win champs (http://blogs.mercurynews.com/collegesports/2012/09/13/2012-nfl-roster-breakdown-usc-leads-all-schools-cals-in-the-top-10/) (sup miami, Georgia, Cal, Iowa, and Michigan?). It's a combination of a whole bunch of things. However, you all know that.

  3. The offensive line penalties were less this year, but as a team, we had 88 penalties for 847 yards. In 2011, we had 86 penalties for 688 yards. Part of this is due to our aggressive coverage in the secondary, but it's still an outrageously high amount of penalties across the whole team. That along with turnovers is going to have to be addressed big time this off season.

The offensive line performed, overall, well this year. It could have been a hell of a lot better though, especially against tougher competition and when it mattered most in close games. With the amount of experience we have coming back and some of the talent waiting in the wings, there's no reason to not have one of if not the best lines in the Big 10 next year. Unless we see catastrophic injuries, there will be no excuse.

A lot of those were on DB's I think, may just be a skewed perspective though. Those aren't always bad penalties, we want our DB's to be aggressive and until this last game I've really had no complaints with them this season in coverage. Covering swing plays is a whole nother thing though.

  4. I would guess the Dr. Tom/Frost rift stems from an incident involving Lawrence Phillips and a woman.

Plus the 19-0 loss to ASU.....and no it's not the loss, it's some behind the scenes stuff that lead to it. Scott was lucky to stay on the team after that one.

    Yep. Spot on.

What's the story there? If you don't want it on the board would someone please PM it to me?

  5. Holy sh#t!!!! This is going to be one of the worst days of the year next to the CCG. If we can't get any guys like Sandland, Russell, or Hooks to commit then our future is gonna be a struggle.

If he commits to Miami I have no use for the kid and will not wish him well. They are bad already, it's going to get worse with sanctions, their fans won't even show up they are so bad. I don't get it.

Meh, these are some pretty sought after guys who can plug holes for a program immediately. It's not like these are guys that are lucky to be 3*'s and are choosing Western Michigan University over us. Yeah it sucks, but the way you worded it makes it sound like we're not landing 5* guys who were born and raised in Lincoln.

  6. came to nebraska because of giant chocolate cookie in his hotel room in lincoln....... well kinda!! still kinda funny

Nebraska had David Knevel as soon he saw the big cookie.

"It was amazing. I showed up and in my hotel room was this big chocolate chip cookie with the words 'Welcome to Nebraska' written on it," Knevel, 18, said. "It was the size of a small pizza. It was the best cookie that I ever had. I took it home and it was still good."

Haha this is kinda funny. Other schools give out money and coeds while we give delicious cookies.

Well at least we know our targets. I mean we were going after a lineman.

  7. UGA fans ( or SEC fans in general) calling out other teams for having people "that look like thugs" on their college football team might be the best definition of irony I've ever come across.

Especially for a tribal tattoo. Very thug-esq. I also like that they went from trying to cheer us up to trolling our silly pony stuff and qb. Guys, we're here to talk football, not aesthetics (big word, means looks).

  8. I'm one of those people that has been a sun shiner. I've always been a Bo supporter. I went to the game, and left stunned, just trying to figure out what was going on. It wasn't until today that I had what could be a useful insight. What if we're framing this completely wrong. We knew that our D was bad this year, that wasn't really a question. Losing Dennard, Crick, and David and having no amazing underclassman or Juco's come in to replace them was going to be ugly. Do I blame Bo for the bad talent around at the moment at the upperclassman level? Yes and no, I don't think he recruited great his first year or two, but there was also the usual attrition and people not playing out. So we could still frame it as his fault.

My question is this, what if Bo's been coaching lights out all season and Wisconsin/tOSU were just games where coaching could not overcome? This team could have been the running equivalent of Okie State (when they were really bad) and instead they went 10-3 despite having huge holes at two defensive levels. This is essentially the flipside of the 09 team. I think that if Bo ever has a team without holes (doesn't need to be amazing, but without holes) it'll be a team in the national championship conversation.

Take it for what you want, this could just be the ramblings of a sleep deprived person.

To further my point, take a look at the O-line this year. Not amazing, but didn't arguably didn't have any clear holes.

Overall, I appreciate the response and dialogue. Thanks.

  9. being worst in the nation with turnovers.... its will be hard for any defense to compensate for that.

The turnovers are a problem. Let's not gloss over that. But we have got to stop giving the defense a pass because the offense has issues. With those turnovers we're still the top offense in the conference in three of the four major categories: Total Offense, Rushing Offense and Pass Efficiency Offense, and we're #2 in Scoring Offense, two points a game behind OSU.

The offense has problems. It is not THE problem, and you can blame those turnovers as much on the defense giving up epic yards and points and the offense having to play a riskier version of football to try to catch up more than you can blame the offense's turnovers for the defense's woes.

Even if we clean up all turnovers, this defense is Cosgrovian. There's no getting around that.

Let's say they scored TDs on every turnover and then let's say we took that away. That is 21 points. We still lose by 18.

I agree. The offense isn't perfect but it wasn't the cause of us losing this game. The defense was pathetically horrible. They were so horrible that it is unfathomable what they were even doing in practice all week.

Or Baker is the best player to have ever come through Nebraska. Just saying.

  11. Basically Fowler is saing he likes the policy Bo has where he tells visitors to go home and discuss hings with friends and loved ones before making a decision. More times, than not if a kid makes an emotional commitment while on a visit i doesn't stick in the end and he follows his heart. I happen to also agree with this policy, along with if you are truely commited you DO NOT take other visits.

sorry speed. My reply wasn't questioning fowlers insights. It was in response to Hedleys response to Fowler.

I follow and take seriously anything Fowler posts in the recruiting forums. As I do with anything you post.

The fact that this guys starts a thread in the recruiting forum just to dick everyone around is ridiculous. Then to butt heads with fowler about recruiting is insane!

    and EZ-E!

Just for the record. When a new person shows up with the name of a villain from a comedy (Blazing Saddles in this case) and starts rubbing people the wrong way; you might want to just ignore them. People who have been around the board long enough know who has reputable information and who doesn't. Let a person prove themselves or not prove themselves instead of arguing about things like steroids and hypothetical situations.

  12. Obert - it looks like the game will be streamed at this site:

You'll find NU vs MInn near the bottom of the long list of games.

Might want to delete that. Pretty sure you'll get in trouble for it. PM's may or may not be legal.

You may wanna edit your post... got the link in the quote

    Thanks, got it.

  13. I emailed his dad, asked him to inform me if there was a donation link. His reply wasn't about the donation link request but instead he spoke positively about the health of his son and how he's recovering and will soon be home. He also congratulated our beloved Huskers on the win over MSU and signed off with Go Big Red!!

God Bless the entire Family and Best wish for a full and Speedy recovery JD :)

It's an unfortunate situation for the guy, but you don't want to be committing any recruiting violations.

If that's an NCAA violation, then so be it. Some things are more important than football and WAY more important than silly rules.

Perhaps an appropriate response would be to use this event as a catalyst to donate to a local hospital? My guess is the only reason you know of this guy is because of the recruiting process, that doesn't mean there aren't other needs out there. It sucks that there's potential for stuff like that to be a recruiting process, but rules and rules and sometimes you just have to abide by them.

  14. We need to win as many games as Michigan wins. The official magic number for us winning games is 3. Usually when you talk about magic numbers though you're talking about a combination of Husker wins and other teams losses. The problem is, that there are other teams besides Michigan involved. I think my math below is correct for total number of husker wins/other teams losses needed to put us in the CCG.

    Michigan magic number 3

    Northwestern magic number 2

Iowa magic number 1 or 2 depending on our performance against them.

The other teams are out of the picture.
