  1. In regards to the Iowa/Iowa State MNC conversation - yes I meant 2002. If Iowa wins that game we are undefeated and playing in the Rose Bowl against a crap Washington (I think it was) team instead of USC in the Orange Bowl while Ohio State and Miami play in the MNC game. Given that matchup, you likely have both Iowa and OSU undefeated at the end of the season. Of course USC proved that we had some holes in our game, but that was just before USC went on their tear through college football so I think we were better than USC made us look in that bowl game. We were ranked number 4 going in to that USC game so we might have made the playoffs if that was the format back then :)

I know many of you look down on Iowa but I think that given how things are in today's football landscape, Iowa and Nebraska will be playing for the Big Ten West title many times on the day after Thanksgiving.

  2.

I just started paying attention to this series. Do they play on a neutral field or do they go home&home

Home and home, and yes, you should. Iowa's season seems to track pretty nicely with the outcome of that game. If they beat the Cyclones, they've typically turned out to have decent to good teams the last 5 or so years. If they lose that game, they're sweating bullets over the 6 wins necessary to make a bowl. I suspect this is because Paul Rhodes does a very nice job of maintaining a perfectly mediocre team in Ames. His only big failure on paper was his 3-9 team last year...that went 1-5 in one score games. Iowa on the other hand jumps all over the place from good to crappy with no apparent reason, so the ISU game is usually a pretty good harbinger of how the season is going to go for them.

Except for 2001 where ISU kept Iowa from having a shot at the National Title. I still can't believe we let down in the 2nd half and let them beat us like that.

  3. Hey Hawkeye, any word on who your bowl matchup will be?

It mostly depends on if we get 2 Big Ten teams into the BCS which is a little more iffy now with Wisky blowing it. If we get 2 then we will be in the Outback against one of the SEC teams. I have seen a few different teams thrown out there as possible opponents but I am hoping for LSU because I have some friends down there. If we end up with only 1 BCS team then we will fall below Nebraska because there is now way the BWW bowl passes up that Nebraska/Texas matchup. We could also fall below Michigan as well. Normally I would know all of the scenarios but been too busy this year to study up as much.

  4.

This is it fellas, youve got one more game before a long stretch before your bowl. You wanna lose to Iowa and get stuck in a toilet bowl of a game against a team nobodys heard of?

Nah - you want Iowa to win because then you will get to play either Oklahoma or Texas in your bowl game instead of some crappy SEC team! Every true Husker fan should be cheering for the Black and Gold on Friday as an opportunity to once again get a shot at your old Big 8 (12) rivals! :D

  5. Iowa....sucks so bad, it'll make a train take a dirt road

Iowegian's are so dumb, they think Johnny Cash is a pay toilet

Iowegian's are so dumb, they think Taco Bell is where you pay your phone bill

Iowegian's are so dumb, they buy tickets to Xbox Live

Iowegian women are stupid, they think menopause is a button

Iowegian's are so dumb, they try to put M&M's in alphabetical order

Iowegian's are so dumb, they called Dan Quayle for a spell-check

Well duh - we have to separate the M's from the W's! How else do you find the logical breakpoint between them if you don't alphabetize them!

  6. The biggest problem Nebraska has this year is Sam Foltz. He hasn't been having a good year and I think everyone agrees that there will be a lot of punting on Saturday.

Yes, some of his punts have been ridiculously short.............this game is going to come down to field position and field goals IMO.

My question is when the heck are we going to finally use our punter that can run a 4.4 40-yard-dash on a fake. Seriously.

3 times the day after Thanksgiving, 2 of which will go for a TD. We have several games to make up for not giving one up and are well below our season average right now.

Looking forward to this Nebraska/MSU game although I am not sure who I will be cheering for. I REALLY don't like MSU but it is in Iowa's best interest to have them win this game. Given that I will be at the game I will probably get swept up in the crowd and cheer for Nebraska (also don't want my brother in law to smack me for cheering for MSU). I think Nebraska might finally run out of late game heroics though.

  7. Past 10 years -

    Wisconsin 94

    Nebraska 84

    Iowa 78

    Northwestern 65

    Purdue 61

    Minnesota 56

    Illinois 19

So yeah - the guy forgot Nebraska was in the West but it isn't laughable to consider Iowa there as well. Give us a couple of years on our current trajectory and you can make the laughable claim if we don't get it turned back around, but coming off a couple of crap seasons and Iowa is only 6 games off of Nebraska's pace?

  8. "As long as the profits from neutral-site games are shared properly (read: bigger draw getting the bigger check"

You are talking about the Big 10 here - bigger draw gets the same check as everyone else. The difference of course is that you are splitting the money from that neutral site game instead of it just being a road game for you and presumably that split will still be more than what the "lesser" draw team would have gotten by having the game at home.

  9. You can't tell because many people do not own red coats. Myself included.

Well if you aren't going to wear red so I can tell you are a Husker fan it makes it hard to count you! :P

Hard to put a number on it. I did notice the big contingencies in the places Caven mentioned. There was a lot of red littered through the whole stadium, too.

I was on our sideline on the Right 20 yard line. A ton around me. I would say 25% Husker fans.

I would agree with the 25% - it was the 40% I felt was way too high. Still way higher than it has ever been before at Kinnick but not quite in the range of what you guys can do at some of the other stadiums (Northwestern).
