  1. You really think you should be a MOD and be so arrogant? I've got the same concerns as C-4. This is going to be a mistake and 4 years down the road when we're busting our arses to break .500 I expect you to man up and swallow that sort of b.s. I'm glad I'm not like you.
  2. Of course the champion will have a shot at the title. Trouble is, the champion won't be us. Back up with some facts why Nebraska would ever out-recruit Ohio State, Penn St., or Michigan? We won't any more than Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana, or Minnesota have done. We're going to recruit better because of our NAME? Our FAN BASE? Ha. Dream on. That's an emotional response, but it's not based in reality. ANY program, ANY name, can go down the tubes. We've seen it over and over through the years. We're out in the middle of nowhere without the Big 12, and the significant ties to south recruits that the conference brings will be broken. Heck, Lincoln would be our southern-most games! Sorry, that's just my take.
  3. So these losing programs all around the country don't have good fan bases? I've heard everything now.
  4. I'm falling for the trap. Redneck. Do you think an undefeated champion of the revamped Big Ten would play for a national title???? Check yes or no... Yep. I just don't think we'll be that competitive in the Big 10 over the long haul - certainly no more so than say Iowa or Wisconsin - there's not that much that really separates us from them to begin with once we make this transition. Hope I'm totally wrong.
  5. ND will likely join as soon as BIG TEN invites Nebraska, Missouri, Rutgers, Syracuse and Notre Dame. What a powerhouse 16 team league this will be. Going to be great handing it to Ohio State, Iowa, Michigan and the Irish! The money generated will be unreal and ND will join a 16 team superconference as they are already considering it strongly. ahhhh the best laid plans. Aside from us and tOSU, I wouldn't put any of these teams in the "powerhouse" class. Joke is more like it.
  6. I don't attend games to watch money. If money equaled football success, Indiana and the rest of their rust belt chronies would be in the thick of it every year. They aren't. We won't win as many games because we won't get the talent. If we go Big 10, it's possible that we will never again be a participant in the national championship game, let alone win it. We're letting our disdain for one conference member drive most of our decision, and that, I am afraid, will be our downfall.
  7. Like Buffett always says...you don't know who's skinny dipping until the tide goes out. Guess we'll find out soon!
  8. I just hope Harvey, Dr. Tom, and the Board aren't using the "ignore" function. But to answer your question, had you graduated a CIC school you'd have known how to use it somewhere between post number 1,000 and 2,000.
  9. These two things conflict. First you're convinced there's no talent to be had up north then you say you're concerned that we can't convice the "high quality kids" from the north to come to Nebraska. So which is it? All the good players are from your state or there is talent north of Texas but it just won't come to Nebraksa? Two things: 1. Texas isn't as big of a deal as everyone makes it out to be. But I do think that the Big 10 schools don't get much good talent from the south and west in general. Rosters bear that out. So if NU stands out as the only Big 10 team to get lots of talent from below the Mason Dixon line, then we will definitely be an anomaly. Facts is facts. 2. There's talent in the north for sure, but you're going to have to go in and mine it cold turkey, where other schools have been entrenched for a long, long time. I'm not talking about a one-off stud from Cardinal Mooney every now and then. I'm talking about the overall deal. And you're a long, long way from Lincoln in the process of trying to blaze new trails. We're going to have to change some long-standing patterns to march 800 or 1000 miles or more and start picking off Ohio, Meechicken, and PA recruits. It ain't going to be any cake walk I can assure you of that. But it's all about academics anyway so who cares? But if it was all about academics, then why did we fire Callahan? Was he a poor professor?
  10. You're making the mistake of thinking that the decision-makers in this situation have the same concerns as the average joe posting messages in an online forum. These are men and women in control of hundreds of millions of dollars in assets, responsible for the success of their institutions. This has nothing to do with "emotion" and not feeling "appreciated," and everything to do with what's best for the institution. Period. What evidence do you have that moving to the Big 10 will hurt NU athletically? Why should it? Well, here's my theory: 1. The Big 10 is the Rust Belt. Cold weather, cold games. Not a big deal for OSU and Meechicken, because that's their home turf. and they've recruited their home turf for a century. They're entrenched. And by the way, they still aren't able to recruit adequate talent these days.. 2. While NU recruits kids from all over, most of the out-of-staters come from the south and west. That brings up three big question marks: 1) Will the south and west players desire to play in the rust belt? In the cold weather? If you look at the rosters of the rust belt programs and where the kids are from, the answer is generally NO. 2) Even if it was warm weather, would the kids venture that far from home? I mean, are mom and dad going to encourage a kid to go play at a school where they have to fly to every game? The fact is that most recruits stay within a day's drive of home, so again, the answer may well be NO. 3) So if 1 and 2 are correct, new recruiting sources must be established. Quickly. But where? Wisconsin? Minnesota? Or are we going into OSU's background (or Michigan's or Penn State's), and let me guess...we are going to consistently convince THOSE high quality kids to move 1000 miles away from home to play ball, right? If you think these aren't legitimate concerns, you are delusional. Best case, the impact is fairly minimal. But you have to have talent to win, and even a moderate impact on our recruiting could translate into a lot more losses.
  11. lol ok i'll play along. i live in temple texas, and my name has to be satan. right?
  12. i think it's disingenuous to say that this Big 10 thing is about boosting academic reputation and that we make a move based on that. This is about one thing: we don't feel appreciated. because of that, we're being emotional, and we may well make a decision based on emotion. and you get yourself in trouble when you do that. the big 10 might indeed be a great deal for NU for academics, but it is highly debatable whether it will be good for our athletics. it's a big question mark and only time will tell. but let's stop with all of the academics b.s. If NU was about academics first, we would have long since petitioned to join the Ivy League. NU is a football factory. We all know it and we love it. and it's going to suck big time if we aren't any more. and I see the Big 10 as a one way ticket to football irrelevance, and sooner than later. and that makes me sad. call me simple.
  13. Hell Temple's probably as far from me as Austin. You know where Temple is? temple, texas? yes. anyone associated with health care knows where temple texas is. i can see that you are more than just curious. you want to somehow diminish my opinion because you think i live somewhere other than salina. fine go ahead if you please but just come out and say it from now on. Sorry for the questions, but when your ISP is clearwire, which isn't available in Salina, and your IP shows that you post from Temple, TX, I get a bit curious. no worries. i didn't get my internet set up in salina, and i've only driven through temple, and I could "clear" all of this up in a couple more facts, but this is way too much fun. carry on.
  14. that network thing is something that they already have - bevo tv or something of that order - it's a joke. I wouldn't get too worked up about it. heck if it's that big of a deal then we should have our own "network" too. (hey, we do already - the pinnacle sports network!!!). this bevo tv thing is way over blown. Is Bevo TV available in Salina? haha. NO. i don't even think you can get it in most of tejas.

  17. There isn't a place in these plains I've found where I can't get either Hughes or through my att/sbc phone. Hughes is almost 100%.
  18. yep, that's part of my territory. I have parts of 4 states.
  19. depends on the puter. One is Hughes (sat), other is a toggle through my "smart" phone (att)
  20. You drive to most games? From where? Which state do you live in? Salina KS. It breaks down like this (approximately - depending on the number of potty breaks and if we eat a breakfast or lunch on the way) Lincoln 3-ish hours Manhattan 2-ish hours Lawrence 3.5 Boulder - leave Friday @ 4pm, arrive around midnight Stillwater - 5 hrs Norman - 5.5 Lubbock - 8 (leave on Fri.) Waco - 8 (leave on Fri.) College Station & Austin - 8 to 10 Aimes - around 5 hrs. No complaints on Jerry's World. Much better venue for a championship than Arrow. Warmer too! I figure that for most of the people living in Big 12 country, these distances are fairly typical. If you're on the far edge of the conf. (Aimes or Lubbock) it's going to be a little farther overall.

  22. There are no guarantees that anyone gets invited anywhere, including the rumored six teams invited to the Pac-10. Judging by the standards of the Pac-10 and the Big 10, it seems far more likely that Nebraska will get invited to the Big 10 than all six teams, including OU, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, will get invited to the Pac-10. Tying schools into package deals due to political maneuvering doesn't make the host conference happy - just ask Stanford. Further, all ten Pac-10 schools have to agree to allow all six of those rumored teams to join or that whole scenario is dead in the water, and Stanford has very little interest in schools like Texas Tech, OU and Okie Light, none of which are AAU schools. Nebraska, however, is an AAU school, along with Missouri, Kansas, Texas and aTm. That makes schools like Nebraska and Missouri very attractive to a conference like the Big 10, as does Missouri's population base and Nebraska's national following, both of whom would draw large ratings for the BTN. Again, you seem very uninformed about what's going on. Sometimes it's best to listen more than speak. Boom. sometimes it's best to not assume someone isn't enlightened just because they don't agree with you.
