  1. So correct me if I'm wrong on this:

    1. We fire Bo, we now pay him millions for several years to not coach here.

    2. We fire Riley, we would have to pay him millions for several years to not coach here.

    3. We hire a coach under a current contract with another school, we'd have to buy out his contract to come here?

If that's all true, that's a boat load of cash.............

    Riley's buy out is $1M.

    http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/riley-contract-includes-million-buyout/article_baf3a9d7-97c6-52aa-af24-96ec7457b6ec.html

I imagine your boosters would consider that pocket change.

  2. Auburn gets robbed going undefeated and a 2 loss LSU gets picked over a handful of 1 loss teams who all win their bowl games.

As far as Auburn goes, it was completely their fault for having such a shotty SOS. Of three undefeated teams, it's logical to take the two that played a harder schedule. Correct?

Who precisely would you have put in the NC besides LSU? Feel free to support it as well.

What if we see TCU/Boise in the Championship this year with the cup cake schedules they've had.

IF that is how it plays out; THEN so be it. However, both teams are going to need a LOT of help to leap frog anyone from a BCS AQ conference.

How do we know they are the best two teams? Because the polls and computers tell us they are? The number 2 team wins the title about 50% of the time so who's to say the number 3 team isn't better than the number 2 team 50% of the time? And this year there is a pretty good chance that TCU or Boise are in the title game so if you don't think those teams deserve a chance you probably shouldn't be for the BCS.

And somehow you think a playoff alleviates your questions and comments about the BCS. A playoff scenario MAY help with answering some questions; however, it can also create more questions than it answers. Where do you draw the line?

  3. How will we ever see TCU, Boise, Utah, or any 3rd team tie have a chance they deserve.

Why, precisely, do they deserve a chance? Are you under the impression that these three teams would have the regular performances, that they have during their present regular seasons, if they were apart of a conference with more than two teams worth a damn?

It will be interesting to see how Utah performs next year.

Politics and greed destroy any chance for hope.

"Any chance for hope" of what exactly? The BCS does precisely what it was meant to do: put the two best teams in the National Championship Game. That's it's sole purpose. What part of hope is missing on that? The opportunity for some cinderella to pull out an upset?

For me, personally, I'm not 100% sold on the BCS; however, I am definitely a fan of the regular season having significant weight. Playoffs diminish the role of the regular season and dampen the rivalries some of us hold dear. Sure, it's a traditionalist approach; yet, that's something I particularly like about CFB.

  4. actually no. that was not and is not the majority basis for determining who the national champion was. not then and not now. The AP national title was the major determining poll for the national

championship and that is as simple as it is.

The AP is not the only recognized national championship organization. That was the reason why I showed the plethora of others that have been credited as valid throughout time.

and for the record' date=' no Nebraskas national championships would not change because of some website. NU has 5 national titles, not 4 and not 6 (yet). [/quote']

That's not what I said. I said "For you to dismiss the FWAA Grantland Rice Award is to also question the others.", and to clarify what I mean by that is the "others" as in Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year, the Bronko Nagurski Trophy winner, the Outland Trophy winner, and a freshman All-America team. There have been 'Huskers nominated and awarded as winners of these awards.

that website shows all various publications' date=' that does not make them so.

    [/quote']

It's nice of you to think so, but the NCAA recognizes a number of organizations who award National Championships.

Here's a link to where the NCAA recognizes Iowa's 1958 National Championship.

  5. to the bold, no they actually did not. #1 LSU beat #12 clemson 7-0 to win the AP national title in 1958. thats what counts and thats who won it.

To your bold, this is not correct. There are a number of different organizations that are recognized for National Championships.

    http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/national_championships/index.php

The following selectors are utilized for determining National Championships throughout this site. In general this site will also use what the schools claim prior to 1936 and most of what the schools claim from 1936-current.

    1869-1935 National Championship Foundation

    1883-1935 Helms Athletic Foundation

    1919-1935 College Football Researches Association

    1936-Current Associated Press Poll

    1950-Current Coaches Poll

1954-Current Football Writers Association of America

1959-Current National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame

    1998-Current Bowl Championship Series

    With regards to the FWAA,

The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) is one of the organizations whose College Football All-America Team is recognized by the NCAA. The organization also selects the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year, the Bronko Nagurski Trophy winner, the Outland Trophy winner, the Grantland Rice Award winner, a freshman All-America team, and weekly defensive player of the week, as well as developing scholarship programs and surveys for better working conditions. Since 1954, the association has awarded the Grantland Rice Trophy to the college football team they choose to be the National Champion.

For you to dismiss the FWAA Grantland Rice Award is to also question the others. This would affect awards by 'Huskers throughout the years.

  6. It wasn't a deparmtental problem as much as a professors vs alumni and students problem. A century of dealing with Big# left a bitter enough taste in the community's mouth that no promise of research money would make joining the conference pallatable.

The people that I have spoken to know the faculty personally, and they have stated numerous times over the last few years just how much the academia at ND wanted to join the Big Ten. Furthermore, IF there was such an issue "of dealing with Big#" for a century; THEN I would have thought by now that ND would have taken their talents elsewhere. Instead, there are no less than 25% of your games played against Big Ten opponents annually. Coupled with the losing record against said opponents since expansion came into play, it really makes me wonder where you get your argument? So much for a bitter taste, huh?

  7. I wish I could say that is the only place like that in the Big Ten, unfortunately, it's not. PSU and tOSU are both far worse. NU fans may get an out at tOSU simply b/c we will be too stupid to realize your red jerseys don't have the name Griffin on the back of the 45 you are wearing. PSU, you are screwed, sorry. It is an awful place for visiting fans.

I hear many more positive comments about visitor treatment at tOSU games than I do negative. Way to color the fanbase ignorant and disrespectful though.

  8. The Big10 has attempted to get ND after adding PSU, and if they were successfull after theyre last attempt NU wouldnt be moving to the Big10. NU was the Big10's second choice thats the way it is.

From all that I have read about the situation between the Big Ten and UNL, I don't find this to be the case. Now, this is with the caveat that I fully believe the time table was expedited because of the Big XII ultimatum. If there was no ultimatum, then there is a good possibility that the outcome may have been different.

Just for clarification, when the Big Ten approached ND at the end of the last century it was fully supported by the academic staff at ND. The hold-up was performed by the athletic administration, who then decided to smear the situation in the public press. It has truly left an "interesting" taste in the mouth of Big Ten personnel and fans when thinking about ND.

It's netspeak for asking us to join and trying to destroy our alternatives. Lloyd Carr said what Big10 fans have been saying all this time this week.

I haven't read what LLLLLLoyd said this week; therefore, I can't comment on it. As for destroying alternatives, I guess it's a matter of perspective. A tremendous upgrade to the Graduate and Research programs at ND obviously take a backseat to the football program. I would see that as enhancement instead of destroying alternatives.

  9. Geographic absurdity for sure. However it was reported Texas guaranteed our non-football sports could have a home in the Big12 in the event that the Big10 tries [again] to force our hand.

What leads you to believe that the Big Ten attempted to force ND's hand this time? If anything, the frustration appears to be more from the other Big East schools.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens when the Big Ten teams have 9-game conference schedules. I'm hoping that Purdue, Michigan and Michigan State drop ND. It's probably pie in the sky; but that's my hope.

  10. Who says two teams from the same conference can't play for the (de facto) national championship?

    1971 any one?

'71 was a completely different scenario.

I don't see anyone in the US (esp. those with voting rights) wanting a re-match from a conference championship game in the national championship.

  11. #2 Ohio State: Toughest Competition ahead- @ Wisconsin, Penn State, @ Iowa, Michigab. Most likely number of losses. 2

Ohio State has won and won big. That being said they gave up a LOT of points to a scrappy Miami team. Vunerability on defense loses them some football games ahead.

14 points in the Miami game came from Special Teams. 10 points allowed by the defense in that game. Thus far, the Buckeye Silver Bullets are on pace for another stellar defensive year. They'll be Top 10 (if not Top 5) in most categories this year. The only vulnerability that I see is that we have two defensive backs that are down now, but one will be back. Defense is not the weakness of this team, Special Teams are at the moment. That could cost us a game, but I don't see any other aspect that would.

  12. Glad to see that there are some 'Huskers who would be just as game for this possibility.

Oregon? Bama? Most likely both undefeated at the end of the season. Are we forgetting them?

Undefeated UNL > Bama with 1-2 loss, IMO. Oregon... been there, done that last year. Oregon isn't going to do what they're doing at the beginning of this year against a team with a defense like Nebraska or Ohio State.

Oregon's the best team as of right now besides us.

Disagree for a number of reasons. I actually live in Oregon, and have a front row seat to both schools up here. Neither one right now would beat the Huskers or Buckeyes.

  13. As for Ohio State——Great team, but tOSU just doesn't excite me for some reason. Maybe I have an undiagnosed aversion to sweater vests. I’d rather meet them in the conf championship. And since I’d prefer Ohio State in the other division, I would want Michigan in the other division also—so as not to break up the tOSU/MU rivalry.

Isn't Ohio State's style of play closest to Nebraska's style?

    Hey Coqui

I would say so. Ultimately, when tOSU plays UNL; then it's going to be one helluva hard hitting contest! The way football should be played.

  14. Since it's the last chance that it could happen, I'm going to go ahead and call it right now:

Buckeyes v. 'Huskers in the National Championship.

    The ramifications would be magnificent!

 for seeing you there.

  15. As I recall, every Buckeye fan who's visited since the merger was announced has been pretty cool. In fact, I think we've had really good luck with all of our Big 10 visitors so far.

It's only because my wife's family will kill me if I'm not nice. :P

  16. 97.1 is a hack station. I believe that they dog on the Buckeyes just as much as the opponents. They're not representative of the fan base.

Trust me, there are enough Buckeyes out there who are pulling for the 'Huskers, appreciate the program and traditon at UNL, and look forward to the great things that come about in the future.

If you want something representative of what a level-headed Buckeye site can present; then I suggest you go to BuckeyePlanet.com

Furthermore, each and every fanbase has there percentage of douchenozzles. It's not the majority (except for maybe the jort-wearing Gator fans  )
