This whole thing is more about needing to control headlines than an actual need to go to war. But if it comes to war, in order to control headlines, Trump won't hesitate to try and instigate it. He's deeply distraught over his poor approval ratings and he wants that - needs it - to change.

These whisper campaigns about "war with North Korea" are not accidental. It's all posturing.

According to Gallup polls Trump is barely below where Obama averaged his entire presidency. Trump is at 40% approval right now, Obama started his presidency much higher (60%) till the meat of his presidency where he dropped to between 40-47% on a consistent basis. He then ended around 55% the first 3 weeks they continued polling in January

Comparing the beginning of Trump's presidency to the middle of Obama's is comparing apples and oranges since Presidents almost always receive higher approval ratings at the beginning of their presidency. Trump's average approval rating for the first-quarter was 41% which is the lowest first-quarter approval rating Gallup has ever recorded. In comparison, Obama's approval rating through the first-quarter of his presidency was 63%.

  2. The "base" of a party to me would the the voters for that party who have voted for that party over a period of time and in a certain way.

The voters in the early states that voted for Trump were NOT your average Republican. It was filled with fairly heavily union or unemployed votes that typically would have gone Democrat. They also included a lot of new voters that had sat out elections.

How would you define a party "base"?

I agree with your definition of the base but I disagree with your assessment of Trump's primary voters. This article shows that Trump primary voters were fairly wealthy so it is unlikely he was heavily reliant on union or unemployed votes. This article refutes the idea that he was drawing more primary support from Democrats than previous candidates. Finally this article shows that although he did receive a lot of votes from people that don't normally vote in the primary, his voters did typically vote in the general election. I'd say that voters who typically skip the primaries but vote Republican in the general election would still count towards "the base" but you may disagree on that point.

  3. I enjoyed watching Ed play, he had some fire in him, he was fun to watch. He had some life in him. That's what I'll miss.

The thing that really bugs me is that Miles was able to turn every team he's been with at ever level until he got to us, with our state of the art facilities. Despite all that we're still the Cleveland Browns of power 5 college basketball. I'm not sure it can be done. Even Belichek couldn't turn the Brown's around (not saying Miles is Belicheck but you get the idea)

And those facilities, I've asked about this before but can't recall an answer, how long is that an advantage? Are we close to missing our window in the facilities arms race?

I've kind of made peace with it though, as long as I think of Nebraska as Lincoln's team and not Nebraska's team (their are 3 schools here and we're not even close to #1 IN THE STATE). I live in Lincoln, grew up here, but work in Omaha, god is it a brutal basketball season at work.

The right coach can turn things around. Look at South Carolina this year.

  4. One #1 seed

    Villanova

    two teams seeded #2, #3 or #4

    Louisville, Kentucky

    two teams seeded #5, #6, #7 or #8

    Iowa State, SMU

    two teams seeded #9, #10, #11 or #12

    Wichita State, Rhode Island

    two teams seeded #13, #14, #15 or #16

    Vermont, Winthrop

Miles will here for at least another year, so get use to it. Pretty soon we will be like Missouri who fires coaches every 3 years. No coach in their right mind will coach at a place that does not allow to build as there is very little talent in the area.

Other than the fact he has been given 5 years and has won fewer games than Doc...fire him

There has not been any NBA talent on this team for a long time. I have had season tickets and this is the best talent since Nee. And please Doc coached in the Big 12, which had a few good teams.

Bringing in talent hasn't been the issue for Miles. He just hasn't been able to develop it and consistently gets outcoached come game time. I think he relied quite heavily on Craig Smith.

The difference in talent between the B1G and Big 12 isn't much. The Big 12 has a higher RPI this year.

  6. Relevant Redditing about what led to these tweets:

So I've been looking into this a bit and it's looking highly likely that Hair Plug Swollen with Rancid Egg Whites (Trump) is going off based on reading his favourite news sources.

Here's a Breitbart article from yesterday that claims that Obama had wire tapped Demonic, Racist Goldfish (Trump) Tower.

The arguments it makes are very dubious and it comes to a solid conclusion based on sources that really only offer hearsay, and even the conclusions of their sources are very dubious.

One of the most important sources appears to be this National Review article which doesn't come to anything like the conclusion that Breitbart ends up making (surprise, surprise).

Breitbart claims that there is evidence that the FBI were eavesdropping on the Weapons-Grade Plum (Trump) campaign whereas the National Review article claims the FBI had a limited warrant to listen to specific communication from Moldy Pumpkin Spite Latte (Trump) Tower not including Yamchurian Candidate (Trump) himself's communication. (They make the claim that the FISA warrant is directed at the mysterious server contacting Russia that has now become infamous).

(As an aside to this I'm also going to postulate that Littlefingers (Trump) had a busy day yesterday and didn't find enough time to binge the news so took an opportunity to do that this morning. His other tweets around the same time are also making reference to topics that were raised by news articles yesterday, such as the Russian ambassador having made 22 visits to the White House. Either or that or Phantom Menace [bannon] is getting news fed to him by his former employees and is whispering it in Tribble Mobility Scooter's [Trump's] ear)

Descriptors courtesy of my Chrome extension left in for hilarity's sake. But you get the point. It appears the source of Trump's accusations is Breitbart. Breitbart's source was Mark Levin of conservative radio fame. Who put a very specific tortured definition of what the wiretaps were for to frame it as the the Obama administration spying on the Trump campaign.

He's getting wound up and chasing ghosts based on something Bannon's own media empire pulled from conservative radio. We're in Bizarro World.

Bloomberg is reporting that he did get the story from Breitbart:

The president, who regularly has access to classified information and intelligence briefings, relied on Breitbart News for his information about the alleged wiretap, according to the person.

Breitbart, the media outlet previously run by White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon, published a story Friday outlining actions supposedly taken by the Obama administration to monitor Trump Tower during the campaign. The story, which claimed the moves were aimed at undermining Trump’s candidacy, referenced commentary on Thursday by radio host Mark Levin that made similar claims.
