  1. Finally from the OWH this morning Published Wednesday August 9, 2006 Juco QB could be a Husker this week BY MITCH SHERMAN WORLD-HERALD BUREAU RELATED STORIES -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- » Patience pays off for Ganz » Meet the Huskers » NU Football Notes: Surgically repaired knee not a problem for Bradley LINCOLN - Even before Harrison Beck's seat in the Nebraska locker room had grown cold, a new quarterback appears ready to take his place on the depth chart. Brian Hildebrand Former blue-chipper Brian Hildebrand of Corona, Calif., is set to enroll at NU this month and begin practice as soon as Saturday, his junior college position coach said. "He's going to go in there and help Nebraska," said Mike Moschetti, the quarterbacks coach at Mt. San Antonio (Calif.) College. "He's going to battle somebody for that No. 2 spot right away." Hildebrand, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound sophomore, would be eligible to play immediately with three seasons to complete his career. He confirmed Tuesday that he is headed to Nebraska later this week. He must complete a final exam on Thursday to finish work on his associate's degree. Hildebrand said NU coaches asked him to withhold further comment on his transfer until his juco coursework is completed. Moschetti was under no such restriction. The coach, who started at quarterback for Colorado in 1998 and 1999, helped connect Hildebrand with the Huskers. Moschetti keeps close ties with several members of the NU staff - notably tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Shawn Watson, who served as quarterbacks coach at CU during Moschetti's senior season. "From what Coach Watson has told me, the (NU) offense is a lot like what we ran at CU," Moschetti said. "There's just different wording, so I've been going over a few things with Brian." Nebraska was involved in recruiting Hildebrand even before it pursued Beck quit the team last weekend. His departure provides more of an opportunity. Hildebrand redshirted at Oregon State in 2004. He left Oregon State after one semester for Mt. Sac, where he started five games last season before suffering a torn ligament in his right thumb. He finished the year 56-of-99 passing for 791 yards with three touchdowns and five interceptions. "He's got a great body and great tools, a real strong arm," Mt. Sac head coach Bob Jastrab said. "He was really starting to do well for us, and then he got hurt." At Nebraska, only three scholarship quarterbacks remain - senior starter Zac Taylor, sophomore Joe Ganz and sophomore Beau Davis. Hildebrand would arrive in Lincoln after taking a path similar to Taylor, who attended Wake Forest out of high school and started one season in junior college. Hildebrand was an Elite 11 quarterback three years ago before his senior season. Rivals.com ranked him as the nation's No. 12 pro-style QB in 2004, behind the likes of Rhett Bomar (Oklahoma), Chad Henne (Michigan), Brian Brohm (Louisville), Drew Weatherford (Florida State) and Erik Ainge (Tennessee). Moschetti said Hildebrand was nearly set to enroll at Colorado last winter, but then Gary Barnett was fired and new coach Dan Hawkins was not interested. Hildebrand also received interest in the spring from UCLA. For the most part, though, he was overlooked because of the thumb injury and his academic situation in one semester at Oregon State. "He's a big-time quarterback," Moschetti said. "I think this whole thing is a blessing in disguise. There's no better situation in the country than at Nebraska. And this kid can play with anybody."
  2. Also read that he could be here by Friday....
  3. Signed with the Beavers out of high school in 2004. Redshirted in 2004 then was on the team as a redshirt freshman in 2005. After that he went to Mt. San Antonio Junior College last year and was decent. I'm not exactly sure why he's able to be hear within the next couple of weeks but if it all works out, this is HUGE!
  4. Just heard that on 1110 KFAB. This could be really, really big. Just think, he'll be here later on this week, learn the system this year and be on the scout team this year, go through spring drills next year, summer conditioning and then back through fall pratice again and compete with Ganz, Davis and Witt. Huge pickup!!! I'm guessing 3 years to play 2?
  5. Some fast facts about Brian: Was the #12 rated QB in 2004 and was in the same QB class as Rhett "$37 an hour" Bomar, Tennessee's Erik Ainge, Michigan's Chad Henne, Penn State's and Colin Cowherds favotire QB Anthony Morelli and two Big 12 QB's -- Texas Tech's Graham Harrell and Texas A&M's Stephan McGee Is father coached at sCUm from 98 to 99 And he was a 2003 Elite 11 QB camp member, here was his profile: Brian Hildebrand 6-2, 185 Corona (Calif.) 2002: Threw for 1,913 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior to earn all-league honors for the second straight year. Earned his invite on the spring camp tour, as he was the top quarterback at both the Los Angeles and Stanford (Calif.) NIKE Camps and also out-threw everyone at the EA SPORTS Elite 11 Regional Workout at Stanford. No player has worked harder on his game in the last year. Camp Evaluation: Above average arm strength with a quick release and underrated athleticism. Has all the intangibles you're looking for, including great leadership skills, a strong work ethic and is someone who wants the ball in his hands late in the game.

Crop Duster's take: I know we all love rumors, but it looks like this might be the mysterious QB that will be here early in the fall http://rivals100.rivals.com/viewprospect.a...y=18718&Sport=1
  7. Not exactly what I wanted but hell I'll give the guy a chance. Welcome Doc!
  8. My sources plus if you check out the RSS, you can easily tell what's going on. Not good, not good
  9. We should know something soon but it looks like Bowman is out for the year. Damn....
  10. We should know more before or after practice this afternoon
  11. Yes.....they practice Sunday afternoon
  12. To me this just proves one thing and one thing only NEVER EVER CHANGE YOUR JERSEY NUMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh wait !!! 1 !!! 1 !!!!!
  13. maybe without the !!! 1 ! !! 1 1 !!! I always thinking more...."Oh dear lord!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" without all of the 1's.....see how it works
  14. I wasn't trying to snap. I apoligize if it came out that way. But always, always there are one or two major injuries that occur in fall camp and this looks like this could be the first one. That's why we (well me) are freaking out. We'll see tomorrow
  15. Then please feel free to contact KLON, or Lincoln's Channel 8 who also reported that or all of the posters at the RSS who are freaking out from those particular reports and the one by Sean Callahan.
  16. We all have to remember that this guy is still 18 years old. Think about it -- 18. And I can also belive that probably half of the team at one point in there career has contimplated on staying or leaving. Now this 18 year old, with a mom who really needs to learn how to be quiet, is lost. I feel for him, but at the same time there are 18 year olds with bullets flying by there head that grasp the concept of maturity, respect and commitment. If he truly, truly wants to stay I say keep him practicing normally (but most in doubt with some stomach puking jogs) and suspend him for the first two games. But personnally, I think he transfers. Hope not.....
  17. KOLN Channel 10/11 reported at the 10 O'clock news that Bowman might have suffered a ACL injury. They never said if there was a tear. Other sources indicated that it was a hyper-extension of the knee. Wow, when it rains, it really does pour.....
  18. This is the biggest mystery to me. I have seen this jersey up at Husker Authentics for a couple of months now. Then about a month ago I was listening to Stevie P's show and he noted that there will be no single change to this years jersey and they will look exactly like they did last year. I personnally wouldn't buy this jersey cause I'm not sure if that's the one you'll see on the field...bizarre
  19. Ahhh great, now the national media can have a field day with this one.

  22. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Per e-mail from Nebraska Athletics Office: Huskers Set to Resume Series with Washington Nebraska Athletic Director Steve Pederson will announce to the media later this afternoon that the Huskers have reached an agreement for a home-and-home football series with the University of Washington . The games will take place in the 2010 and 2011 seasons and mark the fourth high-profile opponent Nebraska has announced in the past three months. The series will begin in Seattle at Husky Stadium on Sept. 18, 2010. The Huskies will make the trip to Lincoln and Memorial Stadium on Sept. 17, 2011. The games with Washington are the first contests scheduled for Nebraska in 2010 and 2011. The announcement of a home-and-home series with Washington comes after recent announcements of home-and-home series with Virginia Tech, UCLA and Tennessee . The Huskers will play Virginia Tech in 2008 and 2009, take on UCLA in 2012 and 2013 and square off with the Volunteers in 2016 and 2017. The Huskers' games with Washington will be the eighth and ninth meetings between the two schools, including four in the 1990s. Washington won in Lincoln in 1991 en route to a national championship and was victorious in Seattle in 1992. In 1997, Nebraska used a 27-14 victory at No. 2 Washington as a springboard to its fifth national championship, then defeated the Huskies in Lincoln in 1998. The first two meetings in the series occurred in 1925 and 1926 with the teams tying in 1925 and Washington winning in 1926. The Huskers also won at Washington in 1967.
