  1. Don't know these guys. Don't live in Columbus anymore. The way I see it is that most of this stuff from the "opinion" sports radio guys is an attempt to follow some sort of formula to be controversial. The louder the better. If your job is to be a personality, instead of breaking down and understanding the game of football, this is what you get. Not going to defend them and I'll only speak for myself...I am looking forward to Nebraska's entry into the Big Ten. The whole idea of losing our stranglehold on the conference is moot. The conference has to be good or who cares if you win it every year. Nebraska makes the conference better. Once M*ch*g*n figures out what the heck they want to do up there, and PSU goes through it's inevitable coaching change and gets back to being consistently good year in and year out, the Big Ten will be a conference producing some serious title contending champions. If that means we (TOSU) only win it every 4th or 5th year, then that's how it is. The years you win it will be years that you know were extraordinary. Add in Iowa and Wiscy hopefully continuing their upswing and you've got a recipe for some truly great teams and competition. Don't let 2 radio guys get under your skin. Look at how Tressel runs a program. That's who speaks for the Buckeye family, not some radio personality...

  2. I was giving him a little less time as I think Nebraska fans are more impatient than they were.

I think he is the man to get us back, but as long as the kids play like last year, I have no problems with no NC in the locker. As stated, winning them is a lot of luck no matter how good you are.

Like last year, Texas out because of Colt's injury, could it have been different who knows, but it was lucky for Alabama to have it happen, that kid never sat out. It's just how the ball bounces.

I think Bo is going to restore us to being a competitive player on the National level and in honesty that is all I ask of him.

As most know I was totally against his hiring, but the way he has handled the program since he arrived and the motivation and fire he puts in his players has changed my mind on him.

This is exactly how I look at it. There is a lot of luck involved. But what you can do is be consistently good enough to give yourself the opportunity. No one thought TOSU could beat Miami in 2002. We got lucky that year that Oklahoma lost one somewhere along the line or we wouldn't have even had the chance to play in that game. Oklahoma's BCS ranking was higher all year until they lost. The year we played LSU, we completely backed into the Nat'l Championship game because all the schools ahead of us lost in the last couple weeks. But we were consistently good enough that we got the opportunities. That's the key imo and that's all you can ask for from your coach imo. Wish we would have been better at seizing those opportunities, but that doesn't always happen obviously. Seems to me that if you can stay top 10 most years and get top 5 some of those years, you've always got a shot at that opportunity. And once your in the game, anything can happen.

Just food for thought, TOSU started ranked 12 (iirc) the year we won it all. Pretty low I would guess compared to where most champions start the season. I would bet that's an anomaly, but it shows that it can still happen.

  3. Why do you feel the need to replace your i's for *'s when typing the word Michigan?

Woody Hayes would not even say the word M*ch*g*n. He called them "That state up north" or "that team up north". You'll see a lot of Buckeyes say TSUN or TTUN due to that. But since you guys may not know what that means, we type M*ch*g*n, so we don't actually have to say the word. And plus M*ch*g*n is a vulgar word, and I don't want to offend anyone here. It's also acceptable to call them Meatchicken...

    :)

  4. Don't like M*ch*g*n. Never will. But I really hate to see what he's done to a great program. I think he's got just enough rope to hang himself with this year and then he's gone. Then hopefully M*ch*g*n can get back to being the perennial power they are supposed to be. It's really hurting our conference imo. Don't get me wrong. I love that we are beating them in unprecedented fashion lately, but in the long run, it's not good for us or the conference. They need to get back to a "M*ch*g*n Man" coach that they so love to talk about. Rich Rod isn't...

  5. I have to say, being an outsider, I never knew how dysfunctional the Big 12 really was. I'm surprised the conference has lasted as long as it has.

As uneducated as that statement really was... :koolaid2:

What? You think this is the way conferences are supposed to operate? And I'm the uneducated one?

I don't it was directed towards you, but I have no idea what it meant either. Any time we use the koolaid icon, we're happy, so it's all good, even if/when we don't make sense. :LOLtartar

    Gotcha. My apologies... :koolaid2:

  7. I could accept this as well. I've always been under the impression that whom ever joined the league, OSU wasn't going to get them on a year in year out basis. We've already got 2 huge rivalries with UM and PSU and I just never thought they would mess with those games. To me it's PSU that needs another big time rivalry in the league and since UM/MSU is more important to both those schools, PSU was going to get the 'new' big game. Which now would be Nebraska. I think it's better for the conference that way even though I would love Nebraska on the schedule permanently, I don't think it can happen without screwing too much other stuff up. And I really hope the league adds another conference game. We don't need all these cupcakes at the beginning of the year. 2 cupcakes are fine to get outta the gates strong. Then 1 marquee out-of-conference game. Then get rolling in conference.

  8. I *think* I'd be OK with PSU-Nebraska each year as the last game of the regular season. Frankly, I never really thought the PSU-MSU match-up was that exciting. I have nothing against MSU, but it never really felt like a great way to end the season. With PSU-Nebraska, you probably have a large contingent of alums my age and older that will recall 1994 and favor the match-up.

How do you address PSU v OSU/UM? I think if you can create a rotation where PSU plays either OSU or UM each year you still satisfy the desire to pair up with one of these two schools. We'd be playing one of them every year, it just rotates which one.

Plus, if PSU is powering through their division and OSU / UM are doing the same...we'd play the other divisional powerhouse during the Championship game anyway. Yeah, there's a chance two teams could play each other more than once but I don't think that's a big deal.

PSU-Nebraska to end the season, every season.

PSU v OSU or UM every season, but not both in one season unless the pairing is via the B10 Championship.

    ...I think that could work.

Yeah the PSU/MSU game always seemed manufactured to me. Kind of a letdown game considering neither team really focused on the other as their big 'rival'. PSU/OSU has turned into a great rivalry, but it's never going to be the season ending climax game because of OSU/UM. PSU/Nebraska, on the other hand, is "must watch" TV even if both teams are having a down year, let alone that most years, it'll be an incredibly important game.

  9. Well right now the way it works is that there are 2 "protected" rivalries for each team. They play every year no exceptions. I'll do TOSU since that's what I know. For us we play PSU and UM every year. The UM game ending the season. For the rest of the league, 2 teams drop off the schedule for 2 years and then back on for 6 (I think). We do not play Purdue or MSU this coming season. I am not a scheduling genius so bare with me. I believe provisions were made to teams like Indiana that they would get at least 1 of the 'big 3' every year at home for the big payday (fill the stadium and good TV slot). I could be completely wrong there though. But, as conservative a league as we're viewed as around the country, the Big Ten is actually an innovator. Instant replay, the BTN, etc. Don't be surprised if the league figures out a way to get a CCG without going to divisions (get an exception to the NCAA rule) as it's always been very important to the Big Ten presidents and AD's to play everyone else as much as possible. That's what made the conference strong. Maybe we add another league game and continue the ways it's gone. Another 'protected' rivalry so you have 3 teams you see every year. I don't know and I'm not doing the stuff in my head. You guys that love to figure out scheduling stuff like this amaze me. It frys my brain trying to figure this stuff out. lol

  10. Sounds to me like they are thinking hard about getting PSU/Nebraska going as a year in year out game. Yes PSU/TOSU and PSU/UM have been great rivalries, but I think PSU fans have been looking for something of their own since they joined. TOSU/UM game is still what the 2 fan bases live for. That has nothing to do with how great PSU is. It just is what it is. Putting PSU/Nebraska as the other huge match up sounds like a great idea to me. And it gives both PSU and Nebraska the marquee game they both deserve that doesn't get overshadowed at all by TOSU/UM game.

PSU fans will have to weigh in if I'm completely off base about my impressions.

  11. Just thinking about representatives from Northwestern University, Chicago University, etc. visiting Nebraska's academic facilities and making suggestions is a big WOW! to me. We can now -- once and for all -- bury the "N for nowledge" forever. :cheers

Oh you'll hear the same derisive comments you've heard in the past. "Just a football factory" (from TOSU perspective), but these are all world class Universities and frankly I don't care what the average football fan thinks of the Big Ten. We know what we are and we know we are changing the world with what we do off the field.

  12. Here's the thing that interests me. So Texas starts their own network. I will assume it will be based on the Big Ten's model which has proven to be successful. The rest of the Big 12 schools are going to have some problems. Is Texas going to start demanding the rights to games taking place in places other than in Texas? Will someone in Kansas have to buy the Texas network to watch their own Jayhawks? Even home games? I think the answer is pretty obvious. If Texas is already demanding, and is obviously capable of securing, what it does from the other members, do you really think it stops with just these exit penalties and the already uneven revenue sharing in place now? Does the future bring a scenario where Texas and their network demands the TV rights to the other members' product? Does the Texas network become a de facto Big 12 network, but with all revenue headed to Austin? These networks need 'product' to show. 1 University alone would be hard pressed to have enough 'product' to fill the network. Where are they going to get the programming from if not from the other members? Very interesting possibility in my opinion.

  13. Hi Huskers. Wanted to stop by and welcome you to your new home, The Big Ten(+2 now)! Ok, we may not be expert mathematicians over here, but we know how to make great additions! The history and lore of Nebraska! The loyalty and support that a great fan base has for their University. The class of Coach Osbourne. I've obviously been rooting for Coach Pelini as well, who is from just down the road from where I sit. How exciting. The perfect Big Ten program in my opinion and a perfect fit. I have to be honest, I don't get to see much Nebraska football in Ohio. But as a fan of college football, I always caught your thanksgiving games, and as many other national games they decided to show in my area. Nebraska has always been a program I had to see, if I could, to see how the rest of the country's top programs were performing. Unfortunately you guys will probably be in a different division than my Buckeyes, but hopefully we'll see you on the field more often than not. Maybe some epic Big Ten championship match ups are in our future. What college football fan wouldn't love to see a game like that broadcast in black and white, with that NFL films guy doing play by play!! Leather helmets. Goal posts in the middle of the end zones! The whole deal. An historic game that would represent so much of college football's past as well as college football's new future. Hopefully a healthy rivalry with Iowa will help make this change for you Husker fans much easier. I know how important tradition is in college football and it always amazed me how they blew up your Oklahoma game considering it was always such an important national match up. The Penn State angle is sooo great too. Can we get those '94 teams back together and find out who was better? Maybe kick off your entry into the Big Ten with a '94 Huskers vs. '94 Lions flag football game? Those guys would be about my age so flag football is probably the safest. Maybe redo the final play of the '05 Huskers/Wolverines bowl game? I bet there's a few UM fans that would want that. From what I've found, Huskers vs. Buckeyes hasn't happened since 1956. Correct me if I'm wrong. If that's the case, I hope we get first dibs for a national night game. Nebraska's Big Ten opener vs The Ohio State University Buckeyes, early September under the lights!! Great stuff.

Well I'm sure you're thinking, "when's this guy going to shut up?". That's ok. Just wanted to make sure you guys know that you are absolutely welcomed to our conference. I haven't seen a Big Ten fan say otherwise unless it's about 'change' in general. Change is difficult for some so I understand. I wouldn't have wanted anything less than a program the stature of Nebraska's either. So, again, Welcome! and I hope you guys feel the same.
