  1. Whaley, Compton, and Fisher will start the first game.

Anderson, Roach, and Santos are the first subs.

If Fisher starts next year I'll eat my hat

He might. He could be this year's version of Thorellford.

The thought makes me sick to my stomach

Perhaps you need a tastier & more digestible hat?

  2. What might also be interesting, were somebody so inclined, would be to see if recruiting-class ratings (over a 2-3 year period) correlated to a team's final ranking. We all know that Mack Brown is notoriously unable to ride a top-rated recruiting class to the national championship, but in general, does having a bunch of 4/5-star (prima donnas?) translate into team success? And conversely, are 2/3 star teams doomed to fail?

  3. Coach Osborne never screamed until his face got red and threw up his arms at officials, from what I can remember. I haven't heard any former player say they wished Coach Osborne would have been more "energized" during the game. He seemed to motivate them just fine.

On the other hand, Coach Devaney did it nearly every game, and he seemed to motivate the players just fine, too.

I was going to mention this. Some of these posters would have been calling for Devaney's head as well, I'm sure. Of course, not so much TV back then, and none of this PC b.s. Football was a lot tougher and rougher back then.

  4. I finally found the "phrase" that describes his throwing motion ... it's a "launch" ... however, it does not have a solid foundation upon which to project anything consistent. He telegraphs everything ... I can tell when he's gonna pass right when he gets the ball. These aren't complaints. It's comical to me. I don't think it will change, he wants to change or the coaches will make him change. It's a marriage that will stay together for three more seasons. :-)

I was thinking it was more like a second-to-first throw in baseball. Sidearm and no arc. Unless he tries to go downfield. Then it's like a shotput. All arc.

  5. Nothing law enforcement can do about thousands of people chanting away...surprised the NCAA hasn't given refs authority to penalize the home team for stuff like that. Then again, that seems unfair too. Meh, probably something that won't go away ever...

The rules used to allow that - I remember the refs throwing flags for delay of game (and/or unsportsmanlike) several times in the (distant) past because the crowd got too loud. I guess the rule must have changed somewhere along the line.

  6. For what it's worth, here's what I see -

Huskers have the speed, athleticism/talent, depth advantage

Badgers have a better passing game, more experience, and a road-grader o-line.

I think we have the better defense (though erratic) and a higher performance threshold

Badgers probably have the better offense overall, but are probably close to as good as they're going to get.

Maybe the biggest advantage we have is that we can platoon both lines. In the 4th Q, that may make a difference. Huge linemen

can gas out if they are continually confronted by fresh players on the other side.

That being said, I still don't have a good feel for this year's team. We seem to play just well enough to win, but not enough to scare

anyone. Maybe that's a good thing, but it doesn't make me very comfortable - yet.

I hope this game is competitive, and we manage to pull it off. But even if we don't, I see us getting better all year long, whereas I don't

see the same for Wisc. It could be a different story if we meet again in Indy.

  7. Is it possible that even for 1 single week someone doesnt come up with a stupid a$$ rumor!!!!!

This is getting completely out of hand, this whole season has been annoying with all these rumors....

Bo is going to get the same treatment that Stoops gets, and every opening someone is going to say Bo is "in the running" for the job but guess what he is staying here!!!

Enough with these stupid rumors and how about we actually talk about FOOTBALL!!!!!!!

    :yeah

Wake me up when something REAL happens.

  9. Anyone think its because of the balls we use? The old worn in ones, people have said they use cause they are easier to throw. Those balls dont seem to have any grip on them. Many times it just looks like its slides out of their arms rather than being knocked out.

The older balls are more grippy actually. I think Bo should find some of those $3 Walmart rubber footballs, maybe put a little bit of grease on them and have the team practice with those.

I think it all comes down to air pressure. <_<

  10. I have a feeling that part of the Classiest fans thing just comes from midwest hospitality. We have the same type of mentality in iowa. Kinda help a neighbor out kind of attitude that you dont find alot of other places in the country. I have also heard people talk about how knowledgeable we as fans are about not only our team but the teams we play. It also comes with how massive our fanbase travels to away games and bowl games. But not everyone is going to fall into that catagory.

Yeah I can see your point. Hell you have it in your picture behind you. :thumbs

It says "greatest fans", not "classiest fans". There's a difference, though it may be too subtle for most people to grasp.

  11. 1) I'm gonna scream at the TV every time I see an offensive play call I don't like, regardless of whether or not a "Wats is an offensive genius and has everything planned exactly as he wants it" argument exists (it doesn't).

    2) I called for us to call some dang plays in any other formation besides the Shotgun Zone Read with Cody under center, and surprise surprise... it was mostly successful all night (esp. when the starters were still in).

    3) Cody Green ain't a broke QB. He actually did a fine job playing in a traditional offense, under center, as opposed to that horizontal slip passing crap that Wats loves. I don't get it... for as long as he's been in the game, he still doesn't understand two fundamental, easy things:

    1) If you try and throw that slip pass to the slot man (like a screen without the blocker), it runs a high chance of getting tackle fd for a loss, no gain, or only one or two yards, and that is a wasted play!

    2) Being so dang predictable on first and second down hurts our offenses potential. You'd think with his experience he'd realize that a throw on first or second down to mix it up could help our team. Being totally vanilla, predictable, and calling the same handful of running plays does not do that. (although at least they work some of the time).

    4) Cody actually took off his skirt today and ran the zone read like a man. Ran through arm tackles and threw his big frame around... finally. He looked like a deer galloping (very long strides) on that one scramble tonight.

    5) That rumor about Zac Lee's labrum is obviously bull, which leads me to wonder why the coaches promoted Cody to 2nd string. Possibly to prep him for the future, since they knew Lee'd be gone next year? However I find it odd they'd risk losing games or even lose them (ISU, aTm) when they might've had a healthy Lee on the sidelines. Also, Rex should be in a competition with Cody for 2nd string QB.

    All I got.

    1) I'm sure your TV doesn't care one way or the other.

    2) Agree I'd like to see some 1st/2nd down passing.

    3) ???

    4) I think Cody Green has been a little beaten down by the way he's been used this year. Being stuck in when we're on the opposing 1 yard line (twice that I know of), being pulled in favor of a limping beat up Martinez, being pulled when anything slightly bad happens. No wonder he's had confidence issues. Just figure out what his game is and let him play within it. Don't force him to run the Martinez offense and he'll be fine.

    5) Doesn't mean he didn't have different injury. Swollen hand was what I was hearing, And Rex is way more valuable as an RB than as a QB.

  12. I've come to the realization that there is nothing Watson can do to win over the fan base. I can only think of one game (texas tech 09) where a game plan was not drawn up that put the team in a position to win. However the people on this board seem to think that it is the OC's job to catch the ball, not fumble, or to magicaly heal injured players. Look at what happned to Bama's offnese today when they went down to their back up qb. We are on our third string and people act like that should not impact an offense in any way. What is hard to understand that the offense has looked pretty good for about 8 out of 12 games, and the games when it has looked poor have been due to exicution not play calling or game plan.

When it comes to the fact that like last weeks game if we simply score ONE DARN td, we win. In addition, that fact has happened in 4 of our 6 losses over the last 2 years. Think about that a sec. Now, this offense was explosive to start the year. But Watson lacks the overall consistency and smarts in playcalling. Perfect example, today, on the goal line, he call a counter with a pulling guard. you dont pull lineman on the goalline. Just go straight ahead. And i agree with the poster that notates the defense scoring points today theoretically. We had 21 points for sure that came off golden field position set up by to's. Im sorry but i have lost hope with Watson, it's just not working, but who knows, with another year of developement, maybe the staff and player combination will continue to gel. I just dont forsee it on a consistent basis.

Oh, you just heard Cunningham say that about the goal line play.

  13. Is the Big XII against us?

    No

    Is Martinez hurt or healthy?

    Healthy

Did Bo really call out the fans?

Yes, but its our own fault for not being loud

Why can't we show up at home?

People might be afraid it effects how our team plays

Which Niles Paul will show up?

    Even Nostrodamus can't predict that

    Where's the pass rush?

We lost Suh, its a work in progress

Are we really on Dan Beebe's hit list?

    Always have, always will

    What's up with the fumbles?

I often ask Tim Beck the same question

    Where are the big plays?

On the defensive side of the ball

    Are we kind of overrated?

    No

Can we make a BCS bowl?

    Nostrodamus says yes

Maybe people would have more of a reason to be loud and cheer if the product that they put on the field actually performed at a high level on both sides of the ball. ;)

So, were not cheering because we are a 9 - 1 team? ranked 8th in the BCS?

Pardon my language but, if your not happy with the Huskers because of how they are performing and disregard where we are right now with our record and rank in the polls, get off your f'ing high horse and be happy that we are better than last year.

    :yeah

  14. You guys can say what u want.I call it how I see it. Theirs no way in hell this game should have been close like this. I guess iowa stae should be in the top 25 rite?? Anyways watch the game again and watch the play when niles fumbles the ball. anyways I dont wanna talk about it,bo gets are hopes up and then has players come out playing like this? I still think this game was fixxed thats just what I think and i dont care what anyone else thinks.I guess we will find out next year when we get smashed on against ohio state and them other teams. Bo wont let us beat ohio state lmao get outta here if u think that we are still a laughing stock and that pisses me off

You, sir, should invest in a few therapy sessions. It couldn't hurt, and might do you a world of good.

  15. OU all the way. UT is already damaged goods, so let's hope OU stays undefeated until the CCG. Besides, how about this for UT's bowl game:

    January 1, 2011 Dallas, TX

Dallas Football Classic 11:30 am ESPNU

Big Ten No. 6 vs. Big 12 No. 7 (C-USA No. 7 if no Big Ten or Big 12, MAC is the second backup)

    Projection: Northwestern vs. Oklahoma StateTexas

A trip to Dallas on Jan 1 to play in the Cotton Bowl (not Jerry World). Would anyone watch? Or care?
