For a guy who is so well respected around coaching and media circles, he knows NOBODY on the staff?

That struck me as odd, too. You'd think he'd have a pretty full Rolodex by now.

Yeah...I think he has been pretty isolated...but it still something that kind of bugs me a bit...

    1. Really well respected but might not know a lot of guys

    2. Might be bringing most/all of his old staff

    3. Offense is a hodgepodge/multiple

Not the end of the world but just things that kind of made me go "hmmmm"

He's been here a single day folks. Give him some time....he's got plenty of it.

Thats just it...he doesn't have plenty of time. He is starting recruiting today, he said...time is up.

Exactly. He doesn't have plenty of time, he needs to get to work yesterday.

I,agree with you about all of your concerns.

I was expecting him to win the press conference, but I wasn't impressed.

I said last night that this hire seemed very callahanesque, after hearing this press conference and everything about this guy, he seems more Doc Sadler to me.

Given the negativity you have had over this hire in general, your comments are not surprising.

It's funny that our previous staff got killed for having a Hodge podge offense with no identity, yet this guy gets a pass.

If he brings the majority of his staff from OSU, if his record is any indication of their ability, then we shouldn't expect much better than what we've had the past 15 years.

I think that those are real concerns.

Their record is an indication of their ability to coach, recruit and develop talent at a program that is in oregon's backyard, with two star players all over the field, limited resources and opportunity and they still put out a decent on the field product despite being outathleted in almost every game. If anything, his experience doing more with less (has OSU has 19 players in the NFL, Neb 26, and I guarantee our recruiting classes have blown theirs out of the water) shows what kind of evaluator and developer his staff is.

Let's see how he recruits, coaches and develops talent with high 3/4 star players, 1000000x better facilities, and many more resources and other funding benefits. Nebraska alone will allow him to get into recruits doors he wasn't able too before.

    Sheesh

A good analogy someone made the other day - if he spent his time at Boise State like Chis Petersen, he has a better record or the same record at minimum.

  2. Unfortunate thing is if Bo is retained we'll probably be seeing alot of Tim Beck next season...dude is a moron (as a taxpayer to the state of Nebraska I have every right to say this).

That play where Ameer got stuffed on 3rd & 1 towards the end of regulation...Iowa called timeout right before snap...Nebraska showed their play anyway...then tried the same play. I think Kirk Ferentz took the chance & betted Tim Beck would run the same exact play again. He was right!!

Different play, different formation, but it was still a run into the same gap.

We had an H back in the game (Jano) and we weren't trying to run it to the outside.

Should've faked it to Ameer, TOmmy keeper

  3. We only had 20 offensive snaps in the first half, so it's not that extraordinary that he was limited in his carries.

    And he is hurt.

And we had a PR for a TD.

We had 31 rushes as a team and 28 passes, not that horrible of distribution by Beck. We just never had the ball in the first half.

  4. Glad to hear he is alright.

Hopefully now that more info about him at TE came out people realize I wasn't just bashing the kid or his skills - didn't mean to "write him off" Husker in Sweden, just a really crowded QB position...

  5.

He was never gonna be a QB here. IF he ends up here he will have just as much of a chance at QB as Jamal Turner did (which is very little)

If that isn't writing off I don't know what is.

    Okay. I'll play.

First, no one is writing off Dillman. But the odds are stacked against him that his best 2 years of HS football came during his first 2 years of HS(assuming he played HS football as a freshman). While he seems athletically gifted, that doesn't make him an instant relevant option at QB. I have no doubt that he will be given a chance to show what he can do at QB.

As far as Steinkuhler is concerned, I believe it was his choice to play defense. And there is absolutely zero proof that he would have been any better of a OT than a DT.

The main reason I brought him up was that he was our last legit 5***** recruit, realizing Kevin does not have the five star rating anymore with 247 proves that an injury can hurt anyone's rankings, we know this. However, (knocks on wood) getting a guy to sign on the dotted line come signing day who was once considered a candidate for being the NUMBER ONE prospect for the 2015 class out of high school at the QB position (Sports Illustrated words not mine) and discrediting the guy for not playing the past two years is a refusal to see the big picture.

He was getting offered as a TE like Nick O'leary at FSU, not sure about Auburn. Wouldn't shock me if it were similar. Also, things are MUCH different than they were when he was first a 5-star recruit.

He was already behind as a QB and was already being considered for a position switch. There is a reason we are pushing very, very hard for Lamar Jackson. If you have a true QB that you think is a "5 star", you don't recruit LJ as actively as we have.

  6. We have the ability - but maybe not the schemes or the coaches - to get to Indianapolis.

We should be favored in every game from here on out.

We could lose every game from here on out.

Ameer's Heisman campaign is over. And that's sad, because he's worked his tail off to make himself into a great back.

    Wow.

  7. It's an unfortunate truth that Taylor Martinez's public shyness, often mistaken for Southern California disdain, contributed to the mixed feelings he still engenders.

    Mixed feelings? Maybe because...

The dude had 45 fumbles, 15 lost, and 27 interceptions prior to his senior year. Also, I don't want to hear the argument that "well, we recovered the other 30 - THIRTY - fumbles that he had" because you know what that does? Puts us behind the sticks, forces us to punt, changes our offensive identity, three & out, etc. This was all in 40 games. He averaged more than a fumble per game...crazy.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Tommy is the better QB (not necessarily the better player) - better leader, manages the team better, keeps us on track re: down and distance, makes better decisions and doesn't go hero mode and he is now healthy. Maybe thats why our offense / playcalling is better than it has been in the past ... I'd be curious to see our average drive length w/Tommy vs. Taylor. Those fumbles hurt, a lot, and I was on record saying we'd never win anything meaningful with him at QB because of that - and to be fair - he wasn't the only one with fumble issues, but 45 fumbles in 40 games? Sheeeeeshhhh.

With that out of the way, I'm not necessarily worried about MSU's defense this week. More worried about Connor Cook. MSU's defense didn't look stellar against Oregon and I think the attrition has really affected them - the Ducks have an explosive offense, but they got flat cooked in the 2nd half. I like the fact that they had a bye week also, because I think that will hold back their defense a little bit as they'll slowly progress throughout the year. Ameer has always had success against them and they loaded the box before. Should be a good game.
