  1. I’m thinking of the pandora’s box that will open up if the NCAA lets players keep a year of eligibility.

A year off?   Would that make some of the incoming freshmen less likely to avoid a redshirt?    They’re going to have all of the time in the world in the weight room?

  2. Or do you make the decision to enter into the next chapter of your life?     Imagine there are some folks on the roster who are buried on the depth chart but are close to getting their diplomas.

What do you do during this very unique time?

Interesting. 2006 was our best year under Callahan - tell me, was it the defense or offense that struggled against the top competition that year?

#4  USC - Defense held them to 28 points (under their average), offense scored 10 points

#5 Texas - Defense held them to 22 points (under their average), offense scored 20 and lost the ball giving them the game winning score.

#10 Oklahoma - Defense held them to 21 points (under their average), offense had 4 picks and a fumble on their first play en route to 7 points.

#10 Auburn - Defense held them to 17 points (under their average), offense scored 14 total including 7 on the opening drive, which means 7 total points in the remaining ~58 minutes of play.

2005 was our second best year. In 2005 we were 25th in the nation in points allowed per game (67th in points per game), and led the nation in sacks (can't find the stat but I wouldn't disbelieve if we were last in the nation in sacks allowed).

Fair point. Cosgrove also called that 2007 defense which was atrocious.    Folks forget about the better D the year prior.

  4. Blame Eichorst.  Don’t blame Riley.   He delivered to UNL what he has his whole career, .500 ball.

Eichorst aimed low when he terminated Bo.    He went out and got Pelini’s antithesis.   That is where you should lay yout frustration.  My opinion anyways.

Purdue has the best WR tandem in the B10, the best DE in the B10, and a very underrated secondary. Have to expose them on the OL and run game.

Folks in Columbus might disagree with that assessment of the Boilermakers WR group.

  6. Part of me wonders if Pelini should have been retained through the 2017 season?      I think the culture fit from Pelini/Frost would have been more seamless.   Obviously the roster makeup would be different for Frost.

I wonder what the records would have looked like from 2015-2017?   Would it more of the same (9-4)?  Would the record start to get worse (I’m of that belief)?   Would he have a breakthrough season (unlikely)?

If anything after what would be his 10th season, the optics would be better for 2/3 of the above scenarios.    Nebraska could say that after a decade they were ready to go in a new direction (change from the staleness which was what the Pelini era became).
