When did Taylor play bad enough over a 2+ game stretch that he should have lost his job, and who should he have lost it to?

He had some sloppy games which made victories a lot tougher to earn.    As far as losing his job due to performance, that was a big problem with Pelini.   The guy could not manage a roster.   Who was Taylor Martinez’s backup?  Was it Ron Kellogg?

I was there for that drizzly day, Rileyesque clusterf#&%.  It was the first Husker game I took my son to.  We gave up two TDs in the 4th quarter to lose by a point.  Gave up a 50 yard pass with less than a minute to go.  And then the Illini scored with just a few seconds on the clock.   What a terrible game.  /shakes head.

Oh yeah, I can't remember where we ate.  I've done my best to block that day out of my memory.  So I got nothing for this thread.

Weather was awful.    I had no trouble getting out of Champaign quickly.

  3. Did Frank ever reach out to other P5 programs after his dismissal?     Frank to me seemed like a guy who probably didn’t interview well with employers.   I hope he is content with where he is at.   How much longer does he want to do this?   He is now in his mid 70s.

Since there are two threads discussing Solich and Bo and their firings they either did or didn’t deserve (they did) I’ll just say this.

When a coach/employee/player is let go, fired, or cut and it’s considered a mistake, usually the person in question is in high demand to be picked up by a peer.

Since his firing in 03, Solich has been at Ohio since 05. He’s never won the MAC once, and in a conference famous for coaches using it as a stepping stone or a transition to a higher profile gig, he’s never once been mentioned as a candidate for a job opening anywhere.

Since his firing, Pelini has been at Youngstown St. and once his inherited team graduated, Bo has struggled to keep a winning record after a playoff run in 2016 (sound familiar?)

And in this wild coaching carousel of the last few years. Bo’s name has never once come up as a potential candidate unless it was a joke.

Both men were ill suited for the spotlight a program like Nebraska presents.

And since it’s 2019, that’s pretty much that.

Bo would probably excel best at the NFL level as a positional coach.    Let other guys handle personnel.   He could do X’s and O’s.

So while I don't want to call it a course per se, I would say there was a marked change in the program under Pelini after the A&M fiasco.  But you're dead on with the rest.  The program has become a lot like how a lot of folks mock Notre Dame- especially before Brian Kelly really turned things around.  There's a lot of hype due to the name but not so much on field success.

I don’t think he liked being told off by Perlman.   Frankly, I’m of the opinion had he won those CCG games in 2009 or 2010 he would have bolted for another program if he was offered.   Pelini didn’t like the fishbowl that is the Nebraska football coach.

I mean it's not exactly a star-studded group of competitors for that title. How about we give Frost more than 14 games before deciding Pelini is a better coach?

That’s not something we are going to know for quite some time.

Bo beat Clemson Dabo, Colorado, Oklahoma, Missouri, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State (on the reg).

It will be a longgggg time before Nebraska beats Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State.

A lot of those aforementioned wins were against watered down versions of those teams.

Liked Bo and still do, hell I still follow him on twitter.

I said it then and still stand firm to it today, you don’t fire a coach who never had a losing record.

That decision doesn’t fully fall on Eichorst but the Regents as well. Same thing can be said with Solich firing.

What happens when things flatline?   What if the coaches don’t take measures to correct their shortcomings.

Many people go a long ways out of there way to avoid giving Pelini any credit.  As exhibited here.

Mav, the guy mailed it in here the last half of his tenure.    He basically dared the university to fire him.   After seven seasons he finally wore out his welcome.

Hope he is enjoying his paragraph blurb on page 10 of the Sunday sports section at his new gig.

I don’t disagree with you about getting our S/C program to a very high level and instilling that culture,  but I don’t think we need multiple years to build a unit considering many elite teams have true freshman and sophomores playing and contributing.

As as an example, look at Bama. There are 19 freshmen and sophomores on the two deep, including three true freshman starters in the defense

Bama gets hammered every year by early entrants to the NFL.   That may have something to do with it.
