  1. The sanctions are going to hurt them. They already had some top tier kids back out of the last recruiting class, and with the limitations on their total available scholarships coupled with the fact that the cupboard is nowhere near as stocked as it was even three years ago, it is easy to forecast some down days for Troy.

Some may depend on how well Ricky does across town. UCLA can steal some of those athletes that the Trojans have laid sole claim to over the last decade or so. Either way, Kiffin fails to impress in so many ways. You could overlook some of the BS if he just had one redeeming quality, ONE! Alas, tis none. Anyways, he's a caretaker for a wounded tiger. As soon as the beast is whole again, they'll dump Lane in her cage so she can feast...to regain her strength.

Then they'll hire John Blake as head coach, and some members of the Gambino Family to bolster their NCAA Compliance Department.

  2. Surely there are a grip of Husker fans who have said the same thing or worse about UT.

You mean like calling us TexAss, UTerus, or Whorntards? :D

I like that guy's OP, though: "If we can stop the run, we will win." That's like going into a fight with Mike Tyson and saying, "You know, if I can just keep him from hitting me, I can win".

I always think it's funny when the boxers go to the corner at the bell, and waiting there is some rabid eyed trainer waiting to dispense brilliant insight.

"Dammit, you're getting hit out there! I want you to avoid getting punched in the face, remember? Dodge his punches, and then punch him in the face. But don't get punched. Alright son? I need this...I owe some bad people a lot of money."

  3. SI Story

    Long read, but very informative.

    Editors' Note

This story includes the names of 30 former college football players who are alleged to have taken money or some other extra benefit in violation of NCAA rules. The primary source of these allegations is Josh Luchs, who has been a certified NFL agent for 20 years.

Eight players confirmed to SI that they had accepted money or benefits from Luchs. Several of them, including former USC receiver R. Jay Soward, said they took the payments because their scholarship didn't provide enough money for rent and food. "I would do it again," Soward said. "I have four sons, and if somebody offered my son money in college and it meant he didn't have to be hungry, I would tell him to take it."

Not an uplifting read. Kind of confirms what everybody really already knows but still, kind of dispiriting.

  4. Whether or not we're getting the national press or not, the issue with ESPN has been their slavish devotion to unproven programs that don't do anything––see Notre Dame.

Nebraska is a cool pick. It's also a smart pick. Look at our schedule. Look at our defense. Look at our playmakers and rushing totals. It ain't that hard to put two and two together. Nebraska's in the hunt. For me, it's hard to predict a championship team ever, because there's more than talent that goes into it. You need a couple breaks along the way, limited injuries, etc. By November we'll have a much clearer picture of where Nebraska falls on the pecking order.

Yeah, that is what bothers me about "The Leader," too. There was also an awful lot of heavy petting going on under some desk tables during the "USC is not only the greatest college football team in history, they are the greatest thing to happen to humankind since penicillin" years.

All NC/Heisman talk is premature in October. Like you said, we'll have a far more accurate picture of who we are and what we're capable of come November.

  5. Yeah, get it together Braylon, we need ya buddy!

Seriously though, he looks fast, like jitterbug fast. I really hope this whole thing ends up with as seamless a resolution as the Bell deal. As someone mentioned on this thread earlier, the cupboard is a little sparse after Roy, Rex, and Robinson, and this kid looks like he can flat play.

  6. Taylor Martinez can't pass. Those 3,000 yards passing he threw in his senior season were a fluke. Probably all just luck. The defender slipped.

Are you listening, Texas? Taylor Martinez can't pass. Nine in the box is the way to go. :thumbs

Hello all, new board member here. This is one of the very first posts I read, and I gotta say; knapplc has nothing but solid, sound logic for you there, Longhorns. I only wish we weren't freely giving away this highly valuable, sensitive information. ;)
