  1. Leon is another one of those "what's in it for ME" guys instead of what can I do to help the team guys. Considering we have a greyshirt (Shanle) and a converted IB (Green) manning the first team safety positions, Leon wanted to play RB even though we have an overload of talent at IB. I think that with his size and speed he'd be a stud safety and have a better shot at playing in the NFL at safety then at RB.

Honestly I'd like to take all those "what's in it for ME" guys and dump them off the side of the road, give me more guys like Tierre Green.

  2. The Board of Regents/Chancellor needs to DEMAND that Pederson/Boehm FIRE COLLIER  ASAP!!!!

They might as well play it cool. If they lose to Missouri and then go 1 and done in the conference tourney, that won't be a very tough decision, because rumor has it, NU may not even make the NIT.

Whether or not NU accepts an NIT bid will let us know the fate of Barry Collier. IF an NIT bid is accepted, BC stays, otherwise (and hopefully) Barry is out.

  3. Looks like Roark will get a ton of reps in spring with the #1's.  Hopefully that will translate to a quality back up come fall football.

Yeah hopefully Roark will be ready because Wagner was subbing every line position except center. Mann played a ton all year and we all know that he's not the biggest guy on the line. I think Mann was our most consisten O-lineman this past season, but he played so much that he had to have worn down as the season progressed. If Roark can spell him for series or two, Kurt will be that much better in October and November in 2006.

  4. I caught the show today and it wasn't as bad as others have made it out to be. Actually, Cowherd didn't diss Nebraska at all. He was talking about Notre Dame's schedule and the fact that its fairly easy except for USC. He did say that USC would be prime for picking early in the season while their QB gets some experience and the Trojans would be tougher later in the year. He also said that USC hasn't lost a game in Oct or November in years, but we get them in September.

  5. I had to vote for Vince Young (man, it hurts to say that). I honestly think that if Tommie is Texas' QB last night, there is no way Texas beats USC. VY is a much better passer and is faster and I dare to say, more powerful runner than Frazier. The only thing that Tommie has over Young would be the leadership skills, but in the 4th quarter after the Texas DB broke his arm, the chick sideline reporter said that the Texas players had their heads down and all the Texas fans were silent. VY took the team on his back and basically willed a victory.

  6. A good friend's uncle, used to be on the Boulder, Colorado city council, went to the press conference announcing Hawkins being named the Buffs new head coach, says he has never heard so much hot air from one place as he already has from the new Buff Coach. Says that Hawkins could get old real, real fast.

  7. I think the new facilities will only help to make recruiting easier. This staff is super at recruiting, and the new facility will make their jobs easier, IMHO.

How much of an impact do you guys think the new facilities will have? Would it have helped in years prior when Dollar Bill Byrne was here, and wouldn't spend money on anything?

Well the good fairy didn't just leave the jumbo screens and the sky boxes, those things were added when Dollar Bill was here.

  8. I agree with your post that we will continue to make strides on defense, but Rands at safety?? The guy isn't big enough (5' 7" 160 pounts) to play corner, much less safety. Safety is the position besides OL, that needed a serious influx of talent a couple of years ago so we won't have to be in the position of putting kids back there with little or no experience.

  9. They did hit Everidge hard a whole lot of times, I'll bet he had a hard time getting out of bed on Sunday morning. One question though, why, oh why did Cosgrove have our defensive ends pinch down to the middle on almost every play. That's why Everidge was able to get to the outside and pick up big yards on those QB keepers. I don't understand that.

  10. everyone knows that firing Callahan would set this program back even further. A new coach would fire the entire staff (except for John Blake) and then we'd go thru another couple of years of adjustment and recruiting would also suffer. Callahan will stay on, but if we don't get to a bowl game this year, then someone is going to have to fall on the sword, Cosgrove or Elmo quickly come to mind.

I agree with you nepolo7, coaches shouldn't motivate players, players should motivate other players. TO didn't motivate anyone, it just wasn't his style, but Jason Peter, Wistrom, Mike Brown, Tommie Frazier, etc were the motivators in the past, not the coaches.

  11. Its hard to get intense, when your coach cant teach or motivate

Do you believe that a coach should have to motivate players?? The players know what its all about, don't they? They know that any Big 12 win is a big win and Mangino telling his fans not to tear down the goal posts after they beat Nebraska should have been enough motivation for any NU player. The captains, Ross and Bullocks are seniors and they should be the one's that motivate the other players. Coaches shouldn't have to motivate players.

  12. Then this staff had better learn really fast how to develop players, cause when one of their vaunted recruits misses, its really gonna show.

You're right, it will show early in the BC era simply because the talent level was so short when he got here, especially in the O-line, which happens to be the area where we are stuggling the most this year

Check out the O-Linemen recruited for the past 5 years.

    2001 - Seppo starts, but began as a D-lineman

Incognito was good, but left program early

Pike in 5th year and is a non-factor

2002 - Mann starter at center

Leslie, Phillips, Timm all have left the program

2003 - Austin starter at guard

Byford is burried on depth chart

Delone (JC), Schuler are both gone from program

2004 - Christensen, Huff, Murtha, Muy, Thomas

2005 - Pasteur (JC), JPicou (JC), Hickman, RPicou, Roark

2004 and 2005 is a decent class numbers-wise, whether or not they can play remains to be seen, but Christensen was starter at guard before being injuried, Thomas starts, but stinks and Murtha has shown talent on the field. 2001 and 2002 we recruited the same number of lineman (5) as the new regime had in 2005 alone. That if you ask me is a huge reason why our O-line struggles. (I got the list off another board, so if the numbers are wrong, blame the other board)

  13. You have to have coaches to develop the talent, not matter how good or bad. These coaches havent shown that ability, and I doubt they ever will.

I don't know how you can say this staff cannot develop talent. Former NU coaches McBride, Young and Tenopir have faith in this staff and they are a better judge of coaching prowess than you or I will ever be. Not enough time has gone by before this staff can be judged. It is common knowledge that Coach Osborne and his staff were masters at taking a kid from Nebraska and turning them into contributors to the program. But TO used to have 5 years to develop talent, that is not the case anymore. With the 85 scholarship limits, we cannot stockpile the talent like we used to. Recruiting misses that occured under the Frank Solich regime are magnified more than ever. Patience friends, patience.

  14. Kinda surprised he has Michigan ahead of any SEC stadium.

I'm not surprised at all, Nameless. When was the last time that Keith has been to an SEC stadium? Gotta be 10 years maybe and the guy, while still among the best college football anouncers, is getting up there in age and probably doesn't have the memory he used to.

  15. The students were chanting the names of every recruit that was at the game, even though Freeman is already committed, why leave him out. Babcock is a dope. However, if the offense continues to struggle week after week, I will get a bit impatient with Coach Callahan, but not Z Taylor.

  16. The green jersey has stayed on all of Fall camp because the others behind him, including Harrison Beck, are simply not ready. If he goes down with an injury for a long period of time, we are in a world of hurt.

I am very impressed with his poise with a microphone/camera's in his face. He speaks very well and it seems to be natural.

I think he has also taken a very large part in being a leader on the offense.

He very simply looks and acts like a winner.

I think we caught lightning in a bottle and we will have a season that will surprise many across the country.

  17. I wish I was a student down there! :worship

Yes, but you can energize Doane with similar tactics!!! You used up your eligibility winning 2 national championships here!!!!!!!!

I think Tommie will do very well at Doane (my alma mater). My better half works at Doane and has a very nice working relationship with Tommie. Both she and I have been very impressed with his personality and his dedication to being the best head coach that he can be. He will turn Doane around (We had 1 win last year), it will just take some time as Doane is alot like our beloved Huskers in the fact that the cupboard was bare when when the new regime took over. Once he gets some players in, LOOK OUT.

I just hope Tommie doesn't look at Doane as a stepping stone to a bigger, and better job elsewhere, but I think I am looking at life thru orange and black colored glasses (Doane colors).

  18. Fellow UNL Student,

The football team is fired up to kick off the 2005 season next Saturday

against Maine at Memorial Stadium. We are looking forward to you and all

of the student season ticket holders being at our home games throughout

    the year.

We have worked extremely hard in the off-season to make this a great

year for the Huskers, and we are planning to have the type of season

that our fellow students and all of Nebraska will be proud of.

The student section is the key to getting Memorial Stadium rocking on

Saturdays. We need you to wear Red, get fired up and make it a little

tougher on the opponent. Believe us, the home crowd at Memorial Stadium

makes a difference and we know the students are the loudest people in

    the house.

Our team wanted to give the students a sneak preview of what to expect

from your 2005 Huskers, so we decided to invite all UNL students to

Memorial Stadium this Sunday night to check out our practice. The

students who didn't buy season tickets will get their invite tomorrow,

but we wanted you to be the first to hear from us. Only UNL students

will be there, so we hope you will come by and help us get ready for a

    great season.

The gates will be open at 6:45 p.m. There will be free hot dogs and

Pepsi, and a chance to hang out with your friends while watching a

    little Sunday Night Football-Husker Style.

Make sure you have your student I.D. and come to Gate 24 on the

Southeast corner of the stadium. For once you don't have to drag your

backpack around campus (they wouldn't let you bring it in anyway). You

might even get a chance to hear from the two of us and Coach Callahan.

The team is planning a few new things on game-day to get the student

section even more involved, and we'll let you see that on Sunday. See

you Sunday night and Go Big Red!
