That will probably be more Mickey's decision than anything.  I think a new coach at the very least would want to keep him on as a WR coach and recruiter.  Sometimes, when an assistant gets a taste at head coaching, but is passed over, they have hurt feelings and go elsewhere.

I don't think MJ will stay and I am not sure that Rhule would want to keep him, as the saying goes...a house should not have two masters.

  2. USA today has us playing LSU in the Outback bowl Jan 1st

    Thanks for the post Nate!

Wow, I would love to see the Huskers against any $EC team. That would be all "boom or bust" for sure! We need to generate some momentum and pull off a big win and redeem ourselves a bit (well, a lot)!

I agree. If you are going to play in a bowl game, you want to play against a team that is "on par" or better than you for the season. I'd be fine with Texas or any SEC team, not K-state.

Agreed. People should post on their Facebook page, even if it may not do much good.

  3. I don't think OU gets an at large. Too many teams ahead of them and the SEC can get 3 teams in. Auburn and FSU to natty champ. Alabama, and South Carolina/Mizzou to BCS. Oregon and Stanford. MSU and Ohio State. Clemson possibly. I also think OSU will still be ranked ahead of OU and get picked before them. But who knows.

SEC can only get two in. BCS rules limit each conference to only two bids under most circumstances. I have Alabama, Clemson, Michigan State (probably), and either Oklahoma or Oregon as the at-large teams.

I think (hope) that the BWW bowl will pass on us if can't match us up with Texas.

  4. Northern Illinois game was messing up for Jerry Palm's bowl prediction.

Now Pussycats vs. Huskers in BWW bowl. Used to be Texass vs. Huskers in BWW. The reason: Baylor made BCS tier instead of NIU. Used to be Baylor vs. LSU in Cotton bowl.... now Texass vs. LSU, of course assuming Bears will win tomorrow.

Stay tuned for ESPN Bowl Selection Show, which will air next Sunday, Dec. 8, at 8 p.m. Central Time.

I miss BCS thing (minority voice here).

I'm not convinced that the Sugar would pick Baylor over Oregon. The Sugar Bowl doesn't have the Big 12 vs. SEC arrangement until 2015.

  5. I'm thinking this will be a low scoring slugfest that we likely lose in a close one. But if our QBs start turning the ball over, it could get ugly.

    No. 14 Michigan State 34, Nebraska 7

Michigan State's conservative, ball-control offense does not lend itself to blowouts, but this is a mismatch. The Spartans' historically dominant defense (210.2 yards per game) will feast on Nebraska quarterbacks Tommy Armstrong and Ron Kellogg III, while Michigan State will run all day on the Huskers' defense. The only question is whether Mark Dantonio will allow quarterback Connor Cook to throw downfield.

He picked Michigan to beat us 33-14.

  6. FWIW - Illinois is ranked #11th in the Big Ten when it comes to defending against the pass.

Maybe that was the stats prior to the fourth game, but Illinois has moved up to 10th in the Big Ten in pass yards allowed per game. Just ahead of Nebraska. And in fact Illinois is slightly ahead of Nebraska in most defensive categories except Nebraska has wayyyyyy more ints. Nebraska is slightly better than Illinois offensively but both are pretty good with Illinois employing a passing attack predominantly and Nebraska running much more on offense.

On paper, if you take out the name and history of the programs, these teams are fairly evenly matched with quite a few similarities. Obviously they don't play the game on paper though so Saturday should be illuminating.

I agree, it is pretty even. Comparing our losses, I would say that UCLA and Washington are about the 3rd/4th best teams in the Pac-12. The Huskers biggest advantages are turnover margin and that the game is at home.
