I've been nervous about this California pipeline Riley is trying to establish. These kids were in diapers when we last won a conference championship. We need to put more focus into that 500 mile radius imho.

This...Cali guys hold spots until a better offer from a California school
    Like Keyshawn and Gebbia, right?

I knew someone would say that. But of all the offers we put out to California this year they are in the minority.

  2. I hate to bag on a college athlete, but missing a layup then pissing away 2 free throws to win, AND then f*cking up 2 more throws to ice the win.......

I'm trying really hard not to say F that guy.

Seriously, may have just wore the team out and screwed our chance at the dance.

By your comment it seems like bagging on a college athlete is right up your alley

Play 10 yards off the guy, as they run 6 yard routes...blows my mind

Yep. Our CBs are 10 yards off and concede any pass 5-6 yards. I do not understand why our corners play off so much.

We play soft because we can't cover in man. So better to give up the short stuff.

We play soft because historically quarters coverage is what Banker calls....period. So linebackers are supposed to cover the intermediate 5-7 from their spot to the sideline. Problem is they also are supposed to stop the run. Any play fake freezes the LBs and they can't get to the boundary. Hence the 5-7 yards stop routes work every time.

  5. Anyone trying to defend Eichorst's treatment of coaches is deceiving themselves. Eichorst was hired to fire Pelini. There is simply no other way around it. Perlman had wanted Pelini out for some time. That was Job #1 when Eichorst was hired.

Pelini had decided to go after the Miami job in 2010. He had an inside track - Mike Ekeler played football at Kansas State with then-Miami AD Kirby Hocutt. But Miami hired Al Golden instead. A couple months later Hocutt leaves Miami for Texas Tech. Miami then hires .... Shawn Eichorst. Pretty easy for Eichorst to find out that Pelini wanted the Miami job (one way or another at some point along the line). A couple years later, Eichorst interviews for the Nebraska job. No idea if that knowledge helped him get the job or not but now there is a Chancellor that wants Pelini out and an AD who knows he wanted out.

Eichorst wanted to fire Pelini after the 2013 season but couldn't get enough boosters on board to get it done. So now he's gone through a year wanting to fire Pelini and has to sit through another one trying to drum up enough support to get it done. How can anyone be surprised that there wasn't much of a relationship there. Eichorst trying to play it off as being busy is a thin cover story. After Eichorst hires his own guy, obviously they're going to have a close relationship - Eichorst has a vested interest in him succeeding.

The second paragraph is exactly what happened - straight from the horse's mouth. The third has been widely rumored and makes too much sense to not be true. Trying to pass off the bad relationship as being only Pelini's fault is disingenuous.

I thought he didn't make statements like this during the season.

    What a slimy weasel.

Season was over after the Iowa game.
So there is no bowl game tomorrow?
Bowl games are not part of the regular season, and not everyone gets to participate. So, yes, I do consider the season over after our last B1G game of the year.

So tomorrow's game doesn't count in the 2016 record and the stats from that game don't either?

Interesting take. Totally wrong but interesting none the less.

His "I don't make statements during the season" mantra has always referred to the regular season. Please try to keep up.

Except his open letter of support on Nov 2, 2015 talking about the program when they were 3-6. Like Mav said, he has no problem making statement and being visible with Riley. Just like you said it's hypocrisy that he's allowed to do at his level. I like to keep up.

Bo should have been fired, the comments are just funny when paired to comments previously stated during the last coach's tenure. It's a 180 degree shift and there's no argument to say they aren't.

So what? An AD doesn't have the luxury of being able to speak off the cuff. Even before Bo was fired, all Eichorst ever said publicly was in support. You are not allowed to just have open criticism if you're in that position - imagine the online meltdown if Eichorst came out and said, "Yeah, I think we've got enough talent but obviously there's something lacking in the coaching - getting beatdown by Ohio State and Iowa like that was absolutely humiliating and totally unacceptable. Doesn't it suck that we're nowhere further along than when we got rid of Bo? The mediocrity is frustrating."

No matter who it is, you support your team until they aren't your team anymore. Even if that means hypocrisy in reference to the way you supported your team of different people in the past.

Everything is done for a reason at that level. I want to be anonymous and not comment in season when you are in the midst of getting rid of someone that you know is a bad fit. I'm a cheerleader for my guy that i just hired and went 5-7 in the regular season and people are questioning my decision. Hypocrisy is the name of the game, just humorous when it's called out by a reporter.

As far as Bo (who we pretty much universally refer to as having a bunker mentality as a coach) is concerned, which situation do you think is more likely? That Eichorst was just an a-hole hiding from the big mean guy until he could stab him in the back, or that Eichorst prefers to be hands off and let coaches come to him with things they need, which Bo perceived through his paranoia to be a chickensh#t pu&&y move? My guess is that Eichorst's door was open for Bo all along, but that since he wasn't actively trying to seek Bo out, Pelini took that as an offense.

I mean, I'm not here to defend Bo. But Eichorst just said the exact opposite. So....

He also is saying and doing the exact opposite when he says he doesn't comment during a season. But chalk that up to being more comfortable now as well.

Q: You're more visible now around the football program. You're on the sideline. You're at practice. That wasn't necessarily the case when Pelini was the head coach. Why the change in your approach?

Eichorst: "I don't know if there was a change in approach. I love the game of football, as you know. We've gone into depth on that. When you transition into incredible positions like at Nebraska, there's a lot of looking, listening and learning to do. I would attribute it more to having a lot of things to do, a lot of people to get to know, more than anything. I now think I know the place a little better than when I first came in, know the people better. That allows me a little more flexibility to get around and to be available."

    uh.....

Moral of that statement from Eichorst is Pelini wasn't wrong in his going away address to the team about never seeing the AD that year. Could have chose different words, but not wrong. Pretty genius move by Eichorst...sit back and alienate a ticking time bomb.

In the end we've got Riley and the program will be on the rise soon or at the very least a functioning work environment.

  10. You justify your employment status by your W/L ratio, not how many prayers you've said that day or dishes done. You can buy time by being a good person and role model, but in a big money business, it only comes down to on field performance.

  11. I learned Lamar Jackson looks the part, now if we ran press coverage to utilize 6'3'' 210 we'd be in business. QBs with a grasp of defenses will still complete passes against us. With that being said, different blitzes seemed to be effective. DL/LBs looked stout against the run.

Offense will be interesting, could be good but will continue to be extremely streaky.

It's amusing to me that Perlman would invoke respect for Osborne's legacy while also justifying the idiocy of firing Frank in '03 and later Bo for "not winning the games that matter."

Well, Bo absolutely did not win the games that mattered so what's your point?

Yea Frank probably should not have been fired, but how can anyone still defend Bo? He told you to go F*ck yourself. Bo was an embarrassment, he had a terrible petulant temper, and he could not win the games that mattered.

Harvey's greatest achievement was Sh*t canning ole BO. I commend Harvey for that endeavor.

I don't think Bo ever said "Throwing Bones, go ____ yourself." But maybe I missed that Omaha/Journalstar article.
