  1. I'm willing to give him some time. He has 3 years to show me some improvement and most importantly some talent. The problem Nebraska has had since Née was fired is that we have been trying to play big 12/10 talent with CSU type players. If we don't see a big increase in the talent level by year 3. It's another bad hire.
  2. Didn't say we should go after Kentucky's recruits but I can tell you that CSU's team isn't going to cut it in the Big 10.
  3. But you say that rebuilding those smaller programs is the same as rebuilding Nebraska. Which is false! For one thing the talent pool for division 2 or NAIA is much larger than for div 1 players. A Drake Baronek type player was a star at UNK and wouldnt have seen the floor at most div 1 schools. While I will agree that some of things that it takes to turn a program around are the same. You guys all seem to think that Miles is such a great recruiter but I'm not sold. CSU wasn't loaded with talent. I watched them play several times. They were a nice team in a mid major. Nothing else! If Miles can bring in some real Div 1 talent I will fall in line but until I see it I'm not going to blow sunshine up your butt.
  4. Sorry TOB but your wrong! Your not going up against NBA level players every conference game. Recruiting is harder because you can't have 5 role players on the floor. Don't try to compare rebuilding UNK to rebuilding UNL.
  5. Sorry if I'm not impressed by building programs in lesser divisions. Rebuilding a program at those levels isn't the same as building a program in one of the power six conferences. I hope Miles succeeds but I'm not impressed by the hire.
  6. I'm not throwing a name out there. Manning gets hired to Tulsa a week after Miles get hired. Makes me wonder if Dr. Tom even asked him? There Are a lot of people that don't like this hire at all. We're tired of the hiring the same guy everytime we do a coaching search.
  7. Yeah, I would take Manning over Miles in a heartbeat. Roy Williams didn't have any experience when he got the job at Kansas. It's not like taking a chance on Manning would have destroyed the program. It can't go much lower.
  8. So Crewe you don't think having Danny Manning as our coach wouldn't put butts in the seats? How many butts is the Miles hire going to get us? I'd rather take a shot on Manning who is sitting next to one of the best coaches in the country. What exactly is so impressive about miles? Rebuilding Div 2 schools is nice but not that impressive to me.
  9. Yeah, Manning to Tulsa stings a little bit. I don't care if he doesn't have any experience as a head coach. He could put butts in the seats.
  10. Don't believe I said we would be going after 1 and done kids. Said we would have access 2 some of the other kids in these highschools. But you bring up a excellent point. Wouldnt you want to model your basketball program after a Duke or North Carolina? Those schools do it the right way.
  11. Good stuff guys, but I'm wondering how you know Miles is such a great recruiter? I'm nut saying that any coach won't face challenges getting kids here but you guys write off the notion that a assistant coach from any of those schools can't recruit which is ludacris. Kentucky is still recruiting against UNC, Duke Syracuse, Kansas etc. Plus they have something that a lot of schools don't. ACCESS! They are going after bigtime players from high powered highschools all over the country. Maybe we don't land the big fish from these schools but we get a shot at 2, 3 and 4.
  12. You make me laugh Bull! Your a funny guy. The only diffence is that we would handing the guy a crap program and we gave Bo our baby. I'm sure if we would of hired a top assistant from one of these schools you would be on here clamoring for Miles.
  13. I hope Miles can get the job done. I can't take any more of what we are putting on the floor. Coleman has a solid record and could be the recruiter we are looking for. But if we don't show Big improvement by year 4 it isn't happenIng IMO. And after watching CSU against Murray St. I don't think Miles is a great recruiter by any means. Coleman was only there for the 11 - 12 season. Love those Nebraska boys but they were playing out of their pay grade against Murray St. I'm just tired of hiring "experienced" coaches from mid majors and getting burned. Give me a assistant from Kentucky, UNC, Louisville, or Duke. If we can turn the football program over to a assistant coach why can't we bring in a assistant from one of those schools? We didn't hire Sonny Lubeck To coach football!
  14. You assume I hate Creighton which is not true. I root for them every chance I get. I love what they are doing and used them for an example because everyone around hear knows them. But since you bring it up what are your impressions from the game with NC? Unfortunately I thought they were out outmanned at every position. That's the point I'm trying 2 make. The MVC is a great conference but it's not top to bottom as tough as the BIG 10 or Big 12 for that matter. Nebraska doesn't have the margin for error the Creighton is afforded. I do agree with you that Creighton got hosed in the seeding.
  15. The problem with your logic is that they only played 3 games against the big 10. Let them go thru a full schedule and see how they fair. No different than football. Anybody can get up for a few games. What do think their record would have been against Mich St. OSO and Indiana. Now take 5 wins away from their record and you think they ate still dancing. Doubtful since they were a 8 seed.
  16. I would disagree with the statement that we were never "good". We made the dance 4 years in a row 5 times in 7 years with teamed that made it deep into the NIT in the years that we didn't. Had 3 players drafted in the first round in the draft. (King Piatkowski and Lue) and a lot of other players that were legit D1 players. ( Boone, Hayes, Hamilton, Strickland, Belcher) just off the top of my head. My point is even when we had a lot of talent we were competitive because we we had players. Not role players. We need some studs if we want to be competitive in the Big 10. What do you think Creighton's record would be if they were in a power conference like the Big East, ACC or Big 10? I'm guessing they wouldn't have been dancing. That's my problem with the Miles hire. Unless he can get recruit some players it doesn't matter how good a coach he is.
  17. I understand everything you guys are saying about local talent we get a few D1 players. But when Nebraska was good Nee had nba caliber players at 3 or 4 positions. If Coleman can get studs out of Chicago that's great until we get NBA caliber players in the program we are going 2 remain a mid major caliber team in a big boy conference. Which means we aren't getting any better.
  18. I know what your saying Bull but your talking about 3 studs over a 20 year span. Besides Strickland name the last NBA quality player to come out of Omaha? Central is doing some good things but we face the same problems the football team face with no tradition. I was just hoping we could hire a guy that who has been involved with one of the blue bloods of basketball.
  19. Sorry guys! You were right all along. Miles is the best coach in the country. I should have never questioned this hire.
  20. I'm not saying we hire a unproven assistant from those schools. I was thinking Tommy Amaker from Harvard personally. If you look at a lot of the great coaches in college basketball right now they learned from legends. I would love to get someone a winner in here from a elite program and Amaker fit the bill IMO. You can bag on me all you want about how smart you are and how dumb I am. I'm just stating my opinion.
  21. I'm not saying that Nebraska can't turn out a good player every now and then. You list 3 big time players no doubt about that which is my my point. Your talking about 3 players from 3 states. Not saying he won't find a gem every now and them but he better not plan on making his bacon recruiting these areas. I hope Coleman is the recruiter you all seem 2 think he is but you can understand my skepticism when CSU has four Nebraska kids on their roster. Which to me is a bit of a warning sign. I watched them play a few times this year and against Murray St. And they didn't have the talent to play with them. I have done a lot of research the last couple of days and I'm just not that impressed.
  22. I hope all you guys are right, but I'm not holding my breath.
  23. Sorry guys but I don't share in all the enthusiasm. Basically we payed Doc 3 million and hired a younger version of Doc for a reported 1.4 million. Not impressed with his recruiters at all! CSU has 4 kids from Nebraska on their roster! That stuff works in mid majors but isn't going 2 cut it in the Big 10. We keep hiring the same coach. Couldn't we get a assistant from Duke or North Carolina? Somebody from one of the bigtime programs?
  24. I did some checking. No truth to that statement at all.
  25. Until it comes out of his mouth I'm not giving up
