  1. He is the type of OL guys that Wisky and Minny go for.   Large human beings that can move a pile.   I like that for the inside guys.   Then you throw in the long arms that help in pass-pro and you got a guy that is hard to get around.   Plus with that build he also has a chance to play on the edge but if that doesn't work he always has a home inside.

  2. Solid class.

I really like the WR group ==  A

Also liked the RB group  ==  A

    Qb is good.  B+

OL is good.   B  (downgrade there are only 2.)

ILB   B  Talented pair.  My concern is are they big enough and are they really inside guys?

    DB    B-   Solid group.

    OLB  C+   No cover OLB.

DL     C+   Filled needs both immediate and long term.   Solid

  3. I took the data given and computed some averages.   I did not mess with the transfers.

Not sure if this tells us too much but kind of interesting.

Ratings per position high to low:

    1)  QB rating average = .9155             3/3 100% retention

    2)   ILB rating average = .8944         7/7     100%

    3)   WR rating average = .8940       10/14   71.4% retention

    4)   RB rating average = .8848             5/7   71.4% retention  (I guessed that m.w is gone)

    5)   DB rating average = .8799        11/13  84.6 %

    6)   OL rating average = .8785         10/11  90.9% retention

    7)    DL rating average = .8783         8/8    100%   retention

    8)  OLB rating average = .8717       7/7     100 % retention

    9)   TE rating average = .8614            1/3    33%  retention (I moved McGriff to TE's)

From the ratings we are better with skill positions than the positions on the line.

Retention rates by position  Ratings per position high to low:

    1)    DL rating average = .8783         8/8    100%   retention

    2)    ILB rating average = .8944         7/7     100%

            OLB rating average = .8717       7/7     100 % retention

    4)   QB rating average = .9155             3/3 100% retention

    5)   OL rating average = .8785         10/11  90.9% retention

    6)   DB rating average = .8799        11/13  84.6 %

    7)   WR rating average = .8940       10/14   71.4% retention

    8)   RB rating average = .8848             5/7   71.4% retention    (I guessed that m.w is gone)

    9)   TE rating average = .8614            1/3    33%  retention (I moved McGriff to TE's)

It seems that most attrition happens with skill positions.   The more blue collar type positions seem to be more stable.  Defense is generally better than offense.

  4. I think the focus of the 2021 class will be DB's,OL and LB's with 19 the initial target.  (It's all fluid of course.)

Db's  The target for the DB group should be 15.   We have 14 after this signing class and have 4 that will graduate.  I also think one of the DB's possible could rotate down to an OLB spot so I think the number to recruit should be 5-6.

OL's  I think we need 4.  We have 2 so we are in good shape there.

We lose Honas and Miller so we need at least 2 ILB.   We lose Domann and we are short a coverage LB so would like to see 2 cover OLB's.   Kind of depends if we move anyone down from safety.

I think the rest are mostly one-offs at different spots like QB,RB,WR,DL....although we might do 2 at TE as we have 3TE's as upcoming Jr's and only Hickman as an underclassmen.

If he can take up two blockers and be strong against the run that's what we need from a NT. Open up those LBs.

Agree.   I didn't think we had any NG prospects left to get but this guy can play inside as he is strong against the run.  Not the biggest guy but the film shows he holds his ground.

I agree with Heady that they didn't fill the lanes properly but I think it is Cheatham that should veer off to the wing.

Although Cheatham is inside of Burke,  Burke is a step ahead of everyone and should make a direct path for the basket.  Burke also has better spacing with Mack.   Cheatham being closer to the ball handler and a step behind should veer off to the wing or perhaps pull up a little to be a trailer.     It's all hindsight of course.   Appreciate the reporting by Heady.

  7. Oh I think they would be great.  Would love it if they signed.   Just guessing they don't.   Have no knowledge just gut.  It's all a crap shoot at this point.

My original post is kind of crap as I made an error in timing & accounting with Gifford.   Didn't realize that my hope at NG went elsewhere and I don't think they are in on any other behemoths.   I probably should not have posted but I'm like a little kid shaking presents.

On a side note...The rush/boundary OLB position is confusing to me.   We must be losing some people but who?   There is Jefferson,Alston,Graham and Nelson that I see as rush OLB's.   They have verbals from Aho,Cooper and Gunnerson.   That's 7!  But they are also interested in Butler!   So how do they make these numbers work.

Tannor and Domman are cover OLB's or field OLB's if you prefer and I think so is Kaden Johnson.  We need at least 3 of those so that's why I am hoping for Johnson.

  8. I am thinking they want 23 so 5.  This is my guess...

    1)  They need another DB.  My guess is Gifford.

    2)  They need another WR.   My hope is Alante Brown.

    3)  They need a field OLB.    The hope is Johnson.

    4)  Best available athlete.    Would like to see a NG?  Can't think of the name so will fill that out in a minute.

    5)  Best available athlete?   Butler?

This is a real nice addition.  The interior line play will be better next year.  If Benhardt can play RT and Farniok slides to guard and this guy makes an impact at guard, that would give us 4 guys with experience fighting for starting spots in Wilson,Hixon,Farniok and Nouli.   Then you have Piper who I really liked in the brief glimpse that he was given.   Gives me hope.    I hope Gaylord gets his injury year back.   That would help at the tackle spot.

  10. Solich recognized that recruiting was dropping off and that the offense needed to diversify a bit.  He made staff changes for that reason.   The new staff only got 1 year and never got a chance to proove themselves because of Petey's arrogance.  So we will never know now will we?

That's enough for me.  Time to put all this behind.   I will give Frost the time he needs and support the team in a positive way and let the past rest.

  11. He will be a OLB (RE-OLB) IMO and to me is very similar to Garrett Nelson.    Reported as running in the low 4.6 range which I would assume is hand-timed so runs a 4.8 electronic.   I do not see him as a 3-4 DE but I suppose they might have him do that in third and forever?   He can put his hand down as a 4-3 RE for sure if they want him to play that technique.  Don't we do that on occassion?  We need OLB's that are physically ready to play so okay with this pickup.

I like the fact that he is a former soccer/boxer/mixed martial arts guy.    Soccer players learn how to take good angles.   They are always running so they understand conditioning and they have good feet.  Boxing is a good indicator that the guy is not afraid to hit and take a blow.   Mixed martial arts is the same plus it adds the wrestling aspect where leverage concepts come into play as well as shooting for legs which translates to a quick first step in football.

  12. In my opinion the target number for D-line is 11.    This is how I arrive at that target.  You have 85 scholarships.  Lets say you budget 3 for special teams.  (Now that is a soft number and it could be anywhere from 0-3 but for a high level planninng view assume you never have more than 3 but potentially you could have a scholarship LS,K,P so you plan worst case scenario)

So basically year to year you have 82 overall.  Divide that in half for offense and defense and basically you can figure you have 41 scholarships to allocate for defense.   Now if you had 4 scholarships at every position that would be 44 which is 3 over.  To scale back to 41 just take 1 guy off at each level as there are 3 levels on defense.   so if you are in a 3-4 defense than (3*4)-1 = 11.   DB's and LB's are (4*4)-1 = 15.    (IMO target numbers are tough to hit as rosters are pretty dynamic and sometimes you just might not have the talent or experience so you might load up on a position or you have unexpected attrition and the number of recruits that may or may not commit are unknown.  So really they are probably working with ranges.  So you could say that they want to be in the range of 10-12.   But for this discussion I am saying 11 is optimal.   If you go 12 than you have to be 1 short somewhere else.

Okay  if you were to break down the 11 DL I would say that you would want 7 DE's and 4 NG's.   I think it's important to have 4 NG types because you may play an additional nose in goal-line defenses.

Just going by body type or ability I would say that Daniels and Hutmacker are every down noses.

I would say that Stille, Thomas,Rogers,Walker,Newsome, Wildeman and Robinson are  more DE types.   Green has been penciled as a DE.   I think he could be a nose though if needed and will count him as a DE/NG.

This means we need at least 1 more nose.    Personally I feel pretty good about the numbers and talent at DL.  We are pretty close.    I agree with the concern at OLB.  We have not done so well there.

Havent had tv other than an antenna the last few years. YouTube seems like a good option as it supposedly has ESPN, espn2, all the locals, fs1 and fs2, and the big ten network. Is it safe to say I'll get most Husker games?

You should be able to go to https://tv.youtube.com/welcome/  to see the channel lineup for your area.

They may still be doing the  free 2 week trial.  If not I think they run a free 1 week promotion most of the time for you to test out.

I am happy with youtubetv so far.

I did add my local PBS channel (NET) to my Roku channels  to watch BigRedWrapUp but it didn't record and I couldn't select or add the show to my watchlist.  I could add it as a favorite but it didn't record.  Not sure what I am doing wrong.   I can see and watch last years shows.   Not sure what I am missing.  It is not a problem with youtubetv it is something that I do not know.   I am an old dummy and get off my lawn.

  14. Travel limit is 74 players for Big ten games.  Your allowed more in non-conference games.

    ttps://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/08/27/big-ten-expands-football-travel-roster-limit-to-74-players/

I think the travel roster is not quite as static as it was in the past because of the increased number of players you can bring.   This means they might switch up a player or two to reward a senior who hasn't traveled or get a true freshmen a taste of the road games or possibly if you are hit with an injury or two you now have a little more room to make adjustments.

I use to watch the depth chart like a hawk but it has lost some of its importance for me personally ever since they skinnied it down to just a 2 deep.    I find the travel roster to be a bit more impactful.

I miss the old days.   Now get off my lawn.

  15. Sho -  Before you pay anything make sure you tell them you are self-pay.   Often you can get a discount between 25% - 35%.    This is the amount that they usually overcharge for people with insurance because they know insurance will try to negotiate that first number down whatever it may be.   It's screwed up for sure.

Also, if it's a really big bill and all from one provider sometimes you can get  a discount like 10% if you pay the whole bill off all at one time.   You have to ask them if they do that though.
