  1. When I hear people complain about snitching I just shake my head. They couldn't do the right thing to begin with, so how do you expect someone who can't do the right thing to begin with adhere to any sort of code of conduct (regardless if that conduct is right or wrong) And I agree if you don't like it don't participate. Rules are rules and that's what it is.

  2. The problem with Beebee IMHO is that he is not proactive, he is reactive. Most of his early experience was as an NCAA compliance and investigation. As a result his leaderships skills and long term visionary skills are not strengths of his. Just my opinion. Ultimatums are is a compliance type of solution. He needs to change his thinking to carrots not sticks. Then he needs to think about the whole garden and future crops not just the prize pumpkin.

Can you tell it's fair time?

  3. SMU kind of thumbed their noses at the NCAA and were pretty brazen and open about the cheating. Bragged about it. That's one reason why they got the death penalty. Miami isn't quite as bad from what I have read but in some ways it's worse because the activities were illegal vs NCAA rules.

One thing about Thomas's case is you really can't categorize this as an impermissible benefit by a booster because he's not a booster for Nebraska. If he was seeking to be an agent then it would be an issue. This whole deal is rotten eggs. Smells bad all the way around. Not a fan about Thomas's 'snitching' comment. That's like prison creed isn't it?

  4. The hardest part will be to decide who the returners will be. My preference is to remove Kinnie and Rex from the mix and leave it up to these choices.

KR Heard, Abdullah, Green, Bell or Turner

PR - Turner or Bell or Green

I guess I will go with Turner as deep punt return. KR I will go with Green and Bell.

I could see us scoring a bunch of special TD early and then people kicking away from us and not getting any later in later games.

I am going to guess 5 for the year.

  5. It's not that Texas has it's own network. It's what they and ESPN are trying to do with that network. Trying to claim a conference game really made them mad. Where does it end? First it was one, then it was 2 then.... Talk about evil empires.

  6. I have high regard for Ron Brown, despite my initial reservations... that being said, I'm a little nervous about him being a RB coach for the very first time, coupled with an OC who is also a rookie.

No worries on my part. Coach Brown has taught skill players for a lot of years so there's bound to be cross over on some of the technique. He's got a lot of experience so I don't think it will be hard at all. It's not like the coaches don't help each other out either. Beck will help Brown and vice versa. One thing that coach Brown is up against is youth. Freshmen aren't quite as strong and physically mature so you may see some fumbles in that regard. So I am glad they are putting extra emphasis on ball security.

That's why I'm only a little nervous instead of A LOT nervous. :-)

    Gotcha. :thumbs

  9. And this is the reason why I think we need more walk-ons. Never know if you can get that diamond in the rough.

The whole 2nd unit may be walkons. May, Roach, Stoddard may all be 2nd team after all said and done. Glad to have them. Walkons give your program depth and strengthens the blue-collar work attitude. It also points out that this is one of the thinner positions.

  10. Nebraska Practice - QB - they are built to beat you with their legs and hopefully hurt you with their ARMS but balanced they are not.

    Hmmmmm.....

Lack of balance was the hallmark of some of our greatest teams. Balance for the sake of balance is overrated.

    Effectiveness >>>>>> Balance

Well I wasn't making a case that we NEED to be balanced. I could care less about balance as long as we're moving the ball and scoring points.

However, they need to at least be COMPETENT passers. Should a situation arise where we NEED to throw the ball and we're not able to, then an extreme unbalance can bite you right in your ass.

EDIT: Also, it's not like we didn't already know that our QB's, for the most part, are better runners than passers. And we already knew that Bo wanted to go to a predominantly run-oriented offense. It was more of "thank you Captain Obvious" to DiNardo.

    Agree.

The balance 'philosophy' purpose is to be unpredictable and make it hard to defend. You can be unpredictable an hard to defend all sorts of different ways, the key is to be competent and effective in both phases.

  12. Good posts. I am enjoying this discussion.

Couple of things. I thought I read somewhere that Stucky chose to transfer? Do I recall incorrectly?

I can appreciate the line of thinking about 'less changes' than a person might think. Some good thoughts there. One of the things I am trying to determine is how do the players we have now fit in with the new philosophy and how fast will we try to transition to that philosophy. That makes it doubly hard to figure out.

Great to see us get another SS in Ethan Garlington

  13. Actually FSU and Nebr have about the same amount of success/failure from 2000-2010. Which is hardly any and very sporadic. If you figure up a composite of rankings for Nu/FSU over this time frame FSU is about 2 spots ahead. So it's pretty close. Neither have a lot to brag about. In Bo's years we have had a slight edge in the overall rankings.
