  1. Best Western Villian: That's a good one, although in the OP I already answered that in a roundabout way. This is pure semantics, but I consider (for whatever stupid reason) Munny to represent kind of a niche role that is relatively rare: The anti-hero. So, by that sleight of hand nonsense, I am free to answer.

I'd consider Johnny Ringo pretty strongly. (Tombstone.) He's a dangerous sociopath...his ease and skill for menacing violence is kind of the key element that make the Cowboys as feared as they are. Minus Ringo, they're still a dangerous group but perhaps not quite as formidible and untouchable. For fans of The Wire, think of Marlo without Chris or Avon without Wee-Bey. Still people to be taken very seriously, but the intimidation factor is significantly lessened. He doesn't miss by much.

Coy Lahood from Pale Rider is a pretty solid villain. Good character, but doesn't quite match Ringo imo.

Jack Wilson from Shane (played by Jack Palance) is a great villain. He even has the black garb to go with his dark intentions. I'd definitely put him over LaHood, but he gives Ringo a run for his money. Palance gives the best performance of the movie, I always thought. (Side note - At the end, do you think Shane is dead? I say yes.)

Gene Hackman actually gives us a pretty good villain from a pretty average movie: The Quick and the Dead, John Herod. (True story: I've had three nightmares involving Gene Hackman where I owe him money for a large amount of drugs that I have lost or had stolen or something...really, really weird. Haven't had that one for at least 7 years, but it was bizarre.)

But I knew pretty much right away who I'd go with: Angel Eyes, played by Lee Van Cleef. First of all, it's an all time movie, regardless of genre: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Angel Eyes is literally "The Bad." And there is something about the way he projects a genuine sense of pleasure in the suffering of others that gets him my vote. Ringo jars even his own criminal comrades when he cooly murders that Priest early in Tombstone, but he's indifferent. And not indifferent in the normal sense, but indifferent the way a sociopath is completely unaffected by the feeling's of others. Angel Eyes is sadistic. He enjoys making people suffer.

**How about Best Shoot-Out Scene? I'm fighting to find something other than the Heat heist. But I'm also hearing, "You're no daisy! You're no daisy at all," in the back of my mind. I'll have to think on that one.

One that immediately came to my mind was the scene out of Boondock Saints with the shootout at the house. I'm sure there are better ones though.

  2. I hope Burkhead performs well at the combine. Hopefully something like this:

    4.45 40 or faster

    40" vertical

    25 reps on bench

He deserves every bit of success that he gets. Good luck to all of our guys!

I'm curious to see what Rex turns in for a 40 time. It seemed like he was short that last gear before this year but he broke quite a few big runs. I still think he'll be in the second half of RBs in the 40 but I bet he'll be high on the list in other tests.

I think if Rex can turn in something in the 4.5 range and do well in the other tests he will really help himself out. 4.5 is nothing to be upset with

  3. Anyone else going to the Mutual Of Omaha Battles On Ice? I'll be there for both games! Go Lancers & Go Mavs!

Never been to a hockey game in my life but saw this was happening and I'm considering going just to go. I'm sure it would be a fun event to attend. Wouldn't have a clue whats going on in the actual game though.

You should go, it's tough to beat a Hockey game in person...

    THIS

Being from Minny I love Hockey... Saw UNO/Michigan Tech over the weekend... wasnt horrible.. sadly I have plans on saturday(wedding class and Husker basketball)

What time saturday do the games begin? I have nothing to do. And please tell me there will be alcohol served?

  4. Getting a 4* recruit in the 11th hour is apparently hard for some on HB to accept! Not this guy! chuckleshuffle

I can understand getting a recruit like that late. But when a school hasn't signed a top 20 recruit from 2006-2012 and then all of a sudden they sign 3 in the matter of a couple hours it just makes things look very suspect. And yes I do realize Nkemdiche was predicted to go there due to his brother being there.

i believe he was talking about Dixon.

Going back through and reading he probably was. I just assumed he was referring to my post about the gif that needs to be in the Ole Miss or Treadwell discussion. I didn't know Dixon was 4-star on any sites. My mistake

  6. THE SURPRISE COMMIT!

This staff is so ahead of things that they anticipated Dixon would make a late switch in commitment to ASU, so they countered with an inception where Ron Brown impersonated Jesus and told him to go to Nebraska. That my friends is #stealth.

    Terry Joseph is ballin!!

Your gif belongs in an Ole Miss thread or in the Treadwell discussion

  7. Would be very surprised if nothing comes of this sanction wise. Too many good players signed to play there to not look into it. Saw a stat that from 06-12 Ole Miss didn't sign a single recruit inside the top 20. And we all know how their day is going so far.

  8. Steven M. Sipple@HuskerExtraSip

Folks keep asking if there's a chance Braylon Heard could remain with #Huskers. I'd say it's a very remote possibility. Let's say, 5%.

Am I the only one that is over this guy wanting to transfer? If you're not getting the playing time you want, then work harder and climb the depth chart. I think we have a couple guys coming in that are ready to do that (Newby, Taylor)....

    Nope.

I was never on the Braylon Heard bandwagon.

Agreed. Kid is talented but I think the way this offense is evolving that Abdullah is the better fit and is more talented in my opinion. With cross getting the short yardage carries apparently Heard didn't see where he fit in. If thats the case then so be it. We have a couple of potential very solid backs coming in. I don't think we will miss him that much.

  9. @wiuhusker .... I'm kind of jealous of your siggy, grrr!!!

as for the B1G and baseball... the investment has started.

Michigan = $9 million investment in stadium

Michigan State = new baseball stadium

Purdue = New $10.3 million baseball stadium

tOSU = $4.7 million renovations to Bill Davis Stadium

Penn St = 31 Million for Medlar Field

    Indiana = $19.8 million facility

additionally, Rutger's Bainton Field was recently renovated and they too have had some (Michigan State like) success.

So, as seen above, there is an emphasis on baseball in the B1G. The question is will the commissioners office take the investment seriously and make changes to current recruiting standards that will make the B1G's schools more evenly matched when recruiting. I personally believe we have only began to witness the overall investment that both the B1G and the B1G network will make.

The sig is looking good thanks to you. I didn't realize how much renovation and upgrade has been taking place throughout the league baseball wise. Hopefully this will all pay off and the Big 10 can get to be known as a respectable baseball conference.

  10. Comments about practice play of the redshirts.

    http://journalstar.c...2cf2d127c6.html

I like the blend of athleticism and shooters in this class between the redshirts and future freshmen.

    Thanks for posting that.

I had a buddy tell me that a guy who is at practice every day said "Pitchford is the best player to come to Nebraska in 5 years"

Take it for what its worth--this article says all the nice/coach speak type things...

I honestly see pitchford/petteway/biggs all starting next year... maybe go really small and start Webster and Gallegos as well. Not sure what we do at the 4. I think Pitchford plays the 5(undersized) unless Vucetic somehow puts on 60 pounds.

    My assumption is this:

    5- Pitchford/ Vucetic/Kurkowski

    4- Shields/Rivers/Fuller

    3- Petteway/Hawkins/Tyrance

    2- Gallegos/Peltz/Richie

    1- Biggs/Webster/Parker/Menke

This changes if they add Attewe and Thomas or one or the other. I think if we get both Thomas and Attewe(drooling)

    We roll with this:

    5- Pitchford/Attewe/Vucetic/Kurkowski

    4- Thomas/ Rivers/Fuller

    3- Petteway/Shields/Hawkins/Tyrance

    2- Gallegos/Shields/Peltz/Richie

    1- Biggs/Webster/Parker/Menke

I think you see Fuller and Hawkins redshirt... possibly.

Lots of tweeners... Attewe probably more of a 4... petteway more of a 4.. Shields is more of a 3--webster is a mix of 1/2.

Few guys who get pushed out of playing time because of this: Parker, Peltz, Rivers

Nah I have to disagree a little

At the beginning of the year the starting lineup will be

    1. Biggs or Webster (whoever wins out) most likely Biggs because he has the experience

    2. Ray with the loser of Biggs/Webster matchup being the 6th kman

    3. Pettaway getting the big minutes.. Rivers will get time between 3 and 4

    4. Shields.. Money in the bank with that one with Rivers plays a key role here,

    5. Honestly up in the air, depends what kind of lineup we go with but Vucetic will start it out.

I dont get how you can say Vucetic will start? The kid hasnt seen any time this year... Honestly him and Kurkowski look like the same type of player.

Just because of the offense we play. If we want fast paced offense like what Indiana runs I can see Pitchford starting but if we run the offense that Wisconsin run, which we have been doing we will most likely be playing a bruiser in Vucetic. In all honesty I hope it is Pitchford because I like his tempo more but I just am not sure what we will do.

I think we do this mostly to limit possessions and keep the game closer. Currently this roster does't have the athletes to get up and down the floor with teams in this conference. This could very well change though in the coming years if Miles gets some athletes.

  11. Most think the next two schools to join will be Virgina and North Carolina (both are AAU accredited). So one can only speculate that "if" these schools are offered and do join (big if) then most assuredly baseball becomes more prominent. (UNC is currently one of the expected CWS participants this year). Also, even if these schools don't join one can, with reasoning, expect the B1G to reconsider their current baseball policies. I also think getting to host a regional and seeing the $$$ generated by Nebraska as well as the $$$ that schools like Michigan, Michigan St, Ohio St, Indiana, Purdue, Penn St have invested will in fact bring change. I think one can assume with relative confidence that Nebraska has a chance to be the leader here and that Erstad fits the challenge of leading the charge perfectly.

If we get any of those two schools it should be a hell of a difference in the Big Ten.

Would make a huge difference in how baseball is looked at by the Big 10 for sure. Would be one hell of a challenge to win the conference for a few years for teams besides UVA and UNC though. Those teams are on a whole different level than anyone in the conference right now.

Exactly, it will make the other teams in the conference have to pay attention to baseball.

Obviously it would take a few years to catch those teams but I think it could be done. Nebraska is obviously the place it would be easiest to accomplish. We already have kids would want for a college. Facilities are top notch, fan support is great, and you would think playing for Erstad, who knows what it takes to be a good player both in college and the pros, would be very beneficial.

The BIg 10 can be a good baseball conference if it would just invest the money to do so. Many major league markets are in the Big 10 footprint. Just invest the money and things will change.

  13. Very smart on their part. Especially the baseball side of it. Would be tough to do early in the year due to weather but Wrigley would be a perfect spot for a college baseball tournament. And if Nebraska happens to have a football game there you can bet I will find a way to be inside Wrigley for that game.

  14. Let's not forget the Koch's tremendous punt on the free kick following. There is a free kick/field goal rule that would allow the 49ers to make a fair catch and then have an unrushed attempt at a game tying field goal from that spot. So, had Koch shanked that punt or not get the distance, it really couldve bit them in the ass, but in typical Husker fashion, he goes and booms the thing from 20 to 20, forcing the 49ers to have to come up with a near impossible return.

When I heard the announcers mention this I had no idea it was a rule. I don't really get the point of it. Guess you learn something new everyday.

  15. I know. I know. Make the pro bowl mean something-like the winner gets to have the super bowl home field.

That would make things interesting. Get it up there when the Tundra is really Frozen.

    Lambeau Field is heated.

This is true. But that doesn't make it any warmer on the fans and I'm sure the players are still gonna be cold too.

  16. I think you guys are drinking a bit too much kool-aid. I like Adam Taylor a lot, but comparing him to Adrian Peterson, the guy who may become the best running back history, is crazy. Taylor has neither the power, speed, or agility of AP. Not even close. He looks like a great player, but he's no Peterson.

I don't think they were comparing him to the AP of now. I think it was more of a comparison to him coming out of high school and early on at OU. There is obviously not another back on the planet that can play the way Peterson does. If Taylor turns out to be anything like the Peterson that OU had I will be very happy
