Scott Frost and Brent Venables are still the only realistic names that have been put forth in any of these threads.

If you're the Nebraska AD (department, not director), regardless of who's involved, you have to take a chance on Frost. His stock keeps rising like crazy, and if you hire a new coach this year or next year, that ISN'T Scott Frost, you set yourself up to miss out on him completely. You take the gamble, and if it works out, you've got your guy for the next 20 years.

It's the right play. The upside is massive, and there's not a whole lot to be lost at this point.

Couldn't agree more. IF a change is made Frost has to be the guy. I've stated in another thread that Shaw would be a great hire but that is a pipe dream at best. Frost is young and I think is on the fast track to a big time gig. Like you said take the chance now and it may mean stability for the next 20 years.

Our bench or NIU's?  Because the sideline reporter noted how odd she thought it was that the Nebraska bench was so subdued.

You sure that guy didn't have his sidelines mixed up?

Just going by what they guy told me was that the guy he talked to was on the Nebraska sideline for the entire game. Like I said it could be made up too.

Could you imagine the outrage if the sideline reporter had said on TV that the Nebraska bench was laughing while down 14-0?

  3. Went to the LJS to have some drinks after the game this weekend. Started talking to a guy from my hometown and he mentioned that one way or another the knew someone on the sidelines for the NIU game. This person said that there was a good section of the bench that was laughing and having a good time when NU was down 14-0. Now this could be fabricated I realize that. But to even have this be a possibility is troubling.

    Yep!  Exactly.

Look, we all want the Huskers to be good.  A lot of us rolled our eyes at this hire and a lot actually said they had to google who Mike Riley was when he was hired.  I rolled my eyes because I knew who he was and didn't think much of the hire.  I didn't think he would do well here and the first year was filled with excuses and mystery toxins.  The second year started off awesome and then turned out pretty lame but still above I would say for an overall record.  Now the Skers have lost like 6 out of 9...they don't look all that good and there is a chance they get pounded a few times this season.  Beaver fans basically laid out this road map for us.  Some coaches are great, some are good, some are average and some are bad.  Mike is between average and good.  We knew that coming in.

I think it is pronounced Wanstache

Scary part is of those 6 loses the only really "acceptable" loss would be Wiscy. Now we should've won that game but I was ok with how our team looked that night. The 5 losses to follow have been downright ugly and no fun to watch really.

The Ohio State game was a debacle from the start.

    Iowa was embarassing

Tennessee was going to be tough without Tommy and Westy and our O-line (Nick Gates) got embarrassed

Oregon was possibly the worst first half of football I've seen a Nebraska team play

NIU was ________. I truly have no words to describe that game.

He's going to say no. It would be a downgrade from what he has there. He consistently gets the best Olinemen in the country and that's required for him to run his offense.

It could be viewed as a downgrade. But from a coaches standpoint would you rather deal with Stanford's or Nebraska's admissions office to get athletes in the door? And with the tradition Nebraska has on the O-line I would think he would be able to bring the top talent to Lincoln with him.

  6. I realize this is a pipe dream but I think SE should at least call Stanford and see if David Shaw has any interest. Given the type of football he likes to play he would be the ideal fit and I think the whole fanbase could get behind him. Nothing against any of the other candidates but you're going to have a split fanbase with anyone else except for maybe Frost.

Might be one of the worst no-call strikes I've ever seen.

There was another one just as bad later in the game against the Cards too. Lackeys no call had a bigger impact on the game. The ump today just wasn't good.

Until the cards learn to field routine groud balls consistently results like today's game will continue to happen.

Does anyone remember the bubble int he second half where Lee did an entire hesitation pump fake before throwing it out to whoever it was who immediately got tackled for loss? That was by far the weirdest most wtf moment of the game.

When watching it live I thought he didn't have a good grip on the ball and he hesitated accordingly. But nope just didn't throw it right away. Don't think I've ever seen that happen before.

Scary thing is with all the miscues and missteps we had in that game we still scored 35 points which should win us most games assuming we don't give up 60 in a half at some point this year.

    Yes that would be cool.

Good game WIU, I almost had a Monday night comeback. Should have known Hunter Henry was going to be a non factor and started Fleener at TE. Its funny that of all the defenses that the Jaguars D would be my leading scorer.

I truthfully thought I was going to lose. I figured Henry would have 3 or 4 catches for like 30 yards and you'd make the comeback complete. Of course if you had played Fleener none of that would've mattered.

    5-1 on the year

    Week 3 Picks

    Nebraska -14

    NU-NIU Over 58.5

    Oregon -14

Bunch of good lines to pick from this week. I feel like a thief taking the overs on Nebraska every week...

teach- Where are you seeing 14.5 on NU? I show it 14 at about 8 different places.

Not sure where he saw it but it was 14.5 on Bovada when I checked this morning. Could've changed.

  11. While the very end of that writeup is not exactly what Husker fans want to read, good on Bookie for saying it. I'm sure he gets sick hearing how he's not fully committed to Nebraska and what not. Until he publicly comes out and says he's going somewhere else I'm damn glad he's part of our class. Apparently he has yet to see something that makes him want to change his mind. Just keep pushing and get him up here for his visit and we will be good to go. And if not then you can't blame the staff. They've done a wonderful job recruiting this kid.

Obviously I can't speak for the staff, but past articles have said the staff see a lot of potential in Smith and more so in Oweh.

That would be a good reason. Just seems weird to me. But i'm not going to second guess Urban and co. ability to recruit and project kids. They clearly know what the hell they're doing.

So, are we allowed to criticize the 31 carries now, or not?

I would say most likely. The reason I say that is it was mentioned that Tre had swelling in his knee the day following the Arky St. game and Riley played it off as a normal thing for him. Knowing that I would think you would try to somewhat limit his carries in the first game.
