So the theory went we would "cut" 1.2 trillion from the debt in ten years.... So 120 billion a year... They couldn't even do that... Although if you really think about it, that wasn't cutting the debt, it was us not going into debt as fast.... Only in Washington could something like that be considered a reduction... In the end I think nether side really thought anything would get done. The forced cuts dont come until 2013, and now we have tons of cannon fodder that will keep the sheep distracted until the election is over... In the end all we did was kick the can down the road, no one wants to make the hard choices... We will need to raise taxes (or at least close loop holes, and that IS raising taxes) reform Social Security/Medicare for people currently under 40-45 (that includes me FWIW), and figure out how to trim the D.O.D. Our elected officials are quickly turning into some kind of untouchable ruling class... the normal person has no voice at best, and at worst is used to whip up animosity between parties, to further polarize the masses (see Tea party, and OWS)
