Benard
Nebraska Lands Another Big Time Sleeper by Staff on September 17, 2004 Nebraska got a commitment from Chris Balham. He is a 6’8 power forward from Shawnee Mission West in Kansas. Balham averaged close to double digits in points and rebounds despite sharing the post with 6’8 center, Hunter Henry, last season. Balham is a ferocious rebounder that stood out at the Jayhawk Invitational tournament over the summer. He falls under the big time sleeper category at this point. Nebraska’s ability to bring in talented sleepers has been remarkable since the arrival of assistant coach Scott Spinelli. He was key in helping Nebraska beat out schools like Georgia and St Johns for Will Harris. Spinelli also played a major role in helping Nebraska land silky smooth guard Jamel White. White averaged 19 points last season at Grady HS in New York, but will play with Laurinburg Prep this season. Head coach Barry Collier and Spinelli laid the ground work with the signing of Joe McCray and Alex Maric in last year’s recruiting class. We expect McCray (6’5 shooting guard) and Maric (6’11 center) to make an immediate impact in the Big 12 as freshmen. They both have the talent to play for pay after college. It will not be long before the Cornhuskers' basketball recruits prove that all of the talent is not on the football field. excited! Quote Link to comment
