Eric the Red
Keys to a championship victory By the Lincoln Journal Star Sunday, Dec 17, 2006 - 12:38:57 am CST Five keys for the Huskers volleyball title win over Stanford 1. The Huskers got Jordan Larson started early. After Thursday’s tough match against UCLA, John Cook asked HuskerVision to put together a video of Larson’s highlights from the last two seasons. She came out Saturday and notched a kill on her first swing. 2. As the Huskers did Thursday against UCLA first-team All-American Nana Meriwether, Nebraska slowed Stanford first-teamers Cynthia Barboza and Foluke Akinradewo. The duo combined for only 27 kills on 79 swings. 3. John Cook called on Amanda Gates at just the right moment. The sophomore from Columbus came in with Nebraska trailing 23-19 in game three and helped the Huskers rally to win with a big block against Barboza. Advertisement 4. Gates wasn’t the only role player to come up big. Rachel Schwartz served three aces, Dani Busboom led Nebraska in digs and Omaha native Dani Mancuso capped her career in style with 12 kills. 5. Finally, Nebraska went to national player of the year Sarah Pavan 15 times in game four and she delivered on her promise not to let NU lose when it mattered. Pavan had six game-four kills as the Huskers built a big lead. Quote Link to comment
