Nu Bball to get some exposure

Recommended Posts

The Nebraska men's basketball program has reached an agreement with Fox Sports Net to televise a package of games this season on a statewide network.

Two people close to the situation on Monday confirmed the deal. It will be announced today in conjunction with Coach Barry Collier's press conference to discuss the start of practice this week.

The Huskers open practice Saturday morning with an outdoor scrimmage, open to the public, at the Husker Nation Pavilion prior to the NU-Baylor football game.

Executive Associate Athletic Director Marc Boehm, asked about the new television network, said Monday he was unable to comment. The contract between Nebraska and Fox Sports Net was expected to be returned to Lincoln today.

"I will say one thing that is very important to our basketball program is getting exposure," Boehm said, "not only nationally but statewide."

Several high-major conference programs regularly play before a statewide television audience. A year ago, Kansas State reached a deal with Fox Sports Net to televise 48 events in four sports over three years. Missouri has a similar contract with Fox Sports Net.

All but one of the Huskers' 13 non-conference games, including exhibitions, are available for the network. The Dec. 2 NU game at Alabama-Birmingham is scheduled for ESPN2. Five league games are planned for ESPN-regional television, and ESPN will carry the Feb. 5 Kansas visit to the Devaney Center.
