Drowning_in_the_Sea_of_Red
#47 no so nice #47 TWICE AS NICE Miami | January 1, 1994 In 1993, Bobby Bowden finally won his first national championship -- twice. Florida State went ahead of Nebraska 18-16 in the Orange Bowl on Scott Bentley's 22-yard field goal with :21 left. The Huskers drove to the Seminole 28 but time ran out. Cheers! Gatorade bath! Hold on! The officials put one second back on the clock. The decision caught Husker kicker Byron Bennett by surprise, too. He missed wide left. I still laugh when I see all those Misery fans trying to tear down the goal posts. BWAAAHAHAHA! Quote Link to comment
Marf
#49 OUTRAGEOUS FORTUNE Columbia, Mo. | Nov. 8, 1997 Some teams win it all. Others seem tapped by Fate. No. 1 Nebraska, trailing Missouri 38-31, had :07 remaining to go the final 12 yards. As Scott Frost's end-zone pass caromed off receiver Shevin Wiggins' hands, and then his foot, Tiger fans began celebrating. With a grass-top dive, freshman Matt Davison cradled the carom for a touchdown. Nebraska won in overtime, 45-38, and went on to a share of the national title. Outrageous. Pffft, All skill. It was planned. Quote Link to comment

Marf
"Fiesta Bowl #20 BREAKING AWAY Tempe, Ariz. | Jan. 2, 1996 With a 42-18 lead in the third quarter of the Fiesta Bowl, Nebraska had sealed the first successful defense of a national championship in 16 years. But when quarterback Tommie Frazier took a quarterback draw 75 yards for a touchdown, breaking seven tackles along the way, it brought up two questions. Was this Nebraska team the best of all time? And how did Frazier not win the Heisman? " Thats what we like to see! I was hoping that moment would be in the top 10, but no complaints. Another one on the list: University of Nebraska #4 JOLLY RODGERS Norman, Okla. | Nov. 25, 1971 The first modern Game of the Century lived up to its billing: No. 1 Nebraska edged No. 2 Oklahoma, 35-31, in a game that came down to the final seconds. But all anyone remembers is the first score of the game: the Huskers' Johnny Rodgers' skittering 72-yard punt return. To this day, whether Rodgers scored because of an uncalled clip depends on your favorite shade of red: Sooner crimson or Husker scarlet. Quote Link to comment
zoogs
Here's one that really drew my eye: #35 THE HONOR SYSTEM Hanover, N.H. | Nov. 16, 1940 It wasn't that No. 2 Cornell scored on a fifth-down, 6-yard pass in the final minute to defeat Dartmouth 7-3 in 1940 that made referee Red Friesell's blunder so memorable. It was that, after seeing the films, Cornell president Dr. Edmund Ezra Day directed his team to forfeit the game. Cornell lost its 18-game unbeaten streak but gained stature for playing with honor, instead of merely by the rules. Now THAT's class. Quote Link to comment
