101 Husker Things To Be Thankful For

There have been good times...and bad times this season. But never doubt that there are plenty of things for Husker fans to be thankful for.

 

Here's a list of some to consider this holiday season. You can even add your own!

 

1. Even with the "west Coast" offense, Nebraska knows how to run the ball

2. The eyes of a young fan at his first Husker game.

3. Lil' Red standing on his head.

4. The tunnel walk still sends chills down your spine

5. The sea of red is even redder than before.

6. You had a giggle when you heard Callahan's "hillbillies" comment

7. Callahan wouldn't back down from his "hillbillies" comment

8. Next year the Sooners have to come to our house

9. Fans who stand and applaud opponents, win or lose

10. Frank Solich still keeps his dignity and class even today

11. Watching the Huskers on television

12. The highest athlete graduation rate in the Big XII.

13. "Not the victory, but the action; Not the goal but the game; In the deed the glory"

14. You know how to say Evwaraye

15. Harrison Beck is coming soon

16. The Cornhusker marching band's walk to the stadium.

17. Finally learning the words to "Hail Varsity."

18. You can still enjoy a Husker game on the day after Thanksgiving

19. Walking down "O" street on Saturday morning with hundreds of others.

20. Getting your picture taken with the bronze statue in front of the stadium.

21. The Kansas victory streak is still alive

22. The waving field of arms in the stands after the Huskers score.

23. Der Weiner Schlinger shooting hot dogs into the stands.

24. Cory Ross has shown what a warrior he is

25. Even in our worst times, we had a late season chance at the Division title

26. Heading to Sidetracks after the game.

27. Watching former Huskers play on Sundays.

28. The new construction project looks awesome

29. Tom Osborne kept his name on the construction project

30. Runzas in Memorial Stadium.

31. Your "Back To Back Champions" shirt still fits

32. Joe Dailey finally cracked the 300-yard passing mark

33. Catching one of the pre-game breakfasts.

34. Husker Power keeps turning out better, faster, stronger players.

35. Matt Davison still wanders the sidelines, this time with a microphone

36. Sam Koch has proven to be an excellent punter

37. True freshman getting playing time and making a difference.

38. Players who followed their brother/father to Nebraska.

39. Shouting "Ruuuuuuuuuuud" quite a lot this season

40. Bob Brown's number 64 will be retired. Only the second such honor ever

41. You can listen to every Husker game over the internet.

42. Young I-Backs Tierre Green, and Brandon Jackson look very exciting.

43. Sixty-thousand fans for the spring game

44. All of those sixty-thousand jumping to their feet on the first pass play.

45. Opening up the latest media guide for the first time each year.

46. 21 seniors will play their last game this week

47. You can check the World Herald and the Journal Star on-line.

48. Being able to buy Husker memorabilia on e-bay

49. Collecting the souvenir soda cups sold at the stadium.

50. The Alumni Association's Husker Huddles.

51. Matt Herian is slated to return next year

52. There are plenty of "Tigers" and "Wildcats" but we're the only "Cornhuskers."

53. Governor Osborne?

54. A record attendance at the women's "Football 101" class

55. Chanting "Husker...Power" with 77,000 of your closest friends.

56. We're not Colorado

57. Watching your tape of the "Game of the Century" for the 100th time.

58. A Friday night steak at Misty's.

59. All-time Husker tackler Barrett Ruud

60. Those three Sears Trophy still look good in the trophy case.

61. Watching the Coach Callahan Show

62. Husker recruiting for next year is already going great.

63. John Blake is recruiting for us now.

64. The consecutive sell out streak still stands

65. Our other sports continue to thrive, like volleyball and baseball.

66. Wearing your "lucky shirt" during game time

67. Watching all the Husker video highlights right on your home computer

68. Trying to guess which former Husker will swing the hammer in the tunnel walk this week.

69. Reuniting the 1994 Championship team before the Missouri win

70. Reuniting the 1955 Orange Bowl team before the Kansas win

71. Thinking we ought to reunite a former team before EVERY home game

72. There are literally thousands of Husker fans on-line.

73. Seeing a Husker bumper sticker on the car in front of you...and you aren't in Nebraska.

74. The player's post-game prayer at midfield

75. Winning 100 games in back-to-back decades.

76. Herbie Husker still walks the sidelines.

77. Grabbing a beer with your friends at Barry's.

78. Husker television game watching parties.

79. Jake Young will always be remembered

80. The Hall of Distinction honors every Nebraska athlete

81. You can actually tell the difference between Dan and Josh Bullocks

82. Catching your first glimpse of Memorial Stadium as you drive on I-180.

83. Hearing the old-timers tell stories about the "knot-hole gang".

84. Our corps of wide receivers has held their own through the changes

85. The "Blackshirts" are still around

86. More Academic All-Americans than any other school.

87. Steve Kriewald's run against Oklahoma brought back many great memories

88. Your favorite item in your Husker memorabilia collection.

89. Hanging around outside the stadium watching the fans streaming in.

90. Staying in your seat at halftime to watch the Cornhusker Marching Band

91. "The March of the Cornhuskers"

92. Sitting in your lucky chair during the game (which you swear does help the team win).

93. Being able to walk out on Tom Osborne field when the place is empty.

94. Nebraska kids still dream of playing for the Huskers.

95. Red hats and white shirts (or vice versa).

96. Turner Gill is still with the Huskers

97. You can use the word "Bugeaters" in a sentence without laughing.

98. Nine offensive starters and seven defensive starters return next year

99. Being "N"

100. There's only nine months until next season.

101. There really is no place like Nebraska.
