August stinks. Well, it does. For the football fan - NFL or college - it moves about as fast as the minute hand does between 2:55 and 3:00 in high school.

 

At the dawn of the month, there's an initial ,annual yelp of excitement over the beginning of camp - "fall" or "training," take your pick. But it subsides somewhere in the first week, when reality sets in: It's another month before they keep score. A long month. A hot month.

 

But for Nebraska's new coach Bo Pelini - and proxy, Cornhusker fans - it's a crucial month, a chance to work his team in game-ready shape.
