HuskerfaninOkieland
Lincoln-Journal Star A day after a couple of ho-hum practices, Husker head coach Bo Pelini had a positive feeling about his team’s Saturday effort on the grass. And maybe the best news for the Big Red? Sophomore right tackle Jaivorio Burkes was back in action after missing all of the previous fall camp practices due to high blood pressure. “He didn't get a ton of work but he got out there and started getting his feet wet a little bit," Pelini said. "He's a quality football player and he's getting better." Athletic director Tom Osborne watched a portion of Saturday’s football practice. Husker head coach Bo Pelini said Osborne often pops in for some of each practice if he’s around. “He gives suggestions and observations, and obviously I listen to them,” Pelini said. “He has a different perspective and a perspective of somebody who really knows what's going on.” Friday’s two-a-day practices had disappointed the head coach some. But Pelini said Saturday he likes where his team is at with the opener against Western Michigan less than two weeks away. "We had a hard go on Thursday and I think we took a step back in some areas (Friday),” Pelini said. “There were just some specific guys who didn't come out and approach the practice like we needed to, and today they all responded." Besides the return of Burkes, the Huskers also welcomed back tight end Mike McNeill and left tackle Lydon Murtha, who returned to the field after some minor injuries. Quote Link to comment
