Football Opens Spring Drills

ATHENS -- Under the direction of first-year head coach Frank Solich, the Ohio Bobcats have completed the first week of spring drills demonstrating a dedication to the off-season strength and conditioning program as well as to making the transition to new offensive and defensive schemes.

“I am very pleased with the effort of the players so far,” said Solich. “We’re throwing a lot of things at them and there are great signs that they are committed to pulling things together and going about things the right way.”

Perhaps most impressive to Solich and his coaching staff were the obvious gains realized in the weight room. A bigger and stronger squad went through its paces thanks to some hard work under the direction of strength and conditioning coach, Sonny Sano.

“Sonny and our student-athletes did a great job with the winter workout program,” Solich said.

“Now that we’ve achieved some significant gains in strength, we will work hard in the spring and over the summer to continue to improve our overall conditioning as well.”

The Bobcats exercised their minds too, tackling new terminologies for the offense and defense. Their progress impressed Solich even before they hit the field.

“They have been in the playbook. That’s obvious,” he observed.

Spring workouts will continue the next three weeks with the final spring session scheduled for Saturday, April 23. While upcoming practices are closed to the public, fans are

encouraged to make plans to preview the Bobcats during the final full workout on the 23rd.
