Freshman Jordan Larson had a match-high 13 kills in Saturday's scrimmage.

Lincoln – Freshman Jordan Larson’s match-high 13 kills led the Red volleyball squad to a 30-21, 30-27, 30-28 victory in front of a crowd of 3,496 at the Nebraska Coliseum Saturday evening.

The fans in attendance were treated to festivities that included honoring former Head Coach Terry Pettit and the 1995 National Champion Husker squad. The crowd of 3,496 broke the Red/White attendance of 2,808 set last season.

The 6-foot-2 freshman from Hooper, Neb., split time with both squads, totaling nine of her 12 kills in the final two games. She finished the night hitting .354 on 31 swings, while adding 11 digs and a pair of service aces.

Larson was one of three current players who finished in double figures in kills, as All-Americans Sarah Pavan and Jennifer Saleaumua added 11 kills apiece. Saleaumua posted a double-double in the win, as she totaled a match-high 22 digs for the red squad.

Freshman Amanda Gates had seven kills and three blocks in the losing effort. Former Husker Laura Pilakowski and student manager Ben Boldt had a team-high 13 kills, as the White squad featured members of the Husker volleyball staff.

The Huskers will open the 2005 season next Friday, at the AVCA/NACWAA College Volleyball Showcase in Omaha at the Qwest Center. As of Friday, over 7,800 all-session tickets have been sold for the tournament that features four of the top five teams in the preseason poll. Nebraska will take on Hawaii Friday evening at 8:30 p.m.
