Husker Quarterback Weekly #1: The smell N the Air!

Fri Sept 2, 2005

--------------------------------------------

“You smell that? Do you smell that?... Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like... victory.”

-Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore (Apocalypse Now)

Substitute Runza’s and red beers and you know what you got…a Husker victory. Lets face it tomorrow’s scrimmage wont prove much, but is important nonetheless. Look for all the newcomers to be thrown into the fire and see what comes of them. Sure you’ll see Lucky, Jackson and Beck - but what about Thomas, the left tackle? What about Bowman? Believe me, you’ll see him quite a bit, considering the Huskers should be able to put up some points forcing the Bears to throw and play catch up. Very exciting when you think about it. The defense in general? The first three and out will be electric to the Memorial faithful.

The offense should roll, plain and simple. Maine returns only 5 defensive starters from a group that was ranked 98th in the country, D-1AA mind you. Barring a multitude of turnovers and miscues look for the Huskers to score in the 50’s. Hardy will be a great one, Nunn will play steady and Ross will run wild.

Of course, the other major story in Lincoln are the recruits in town. Again, we have the number one player in California, Allen Bradford, on his way. The coaches for sure, will have their attention, quotes and lectures directed toward him (Come on Blake). The coaches and the fans already have this routine down. The crowd needs to roar the entire game, it’s at night it will be cooler, the weather should be perfect. The welcome walk, tunnel walk and pre-game warm-ups are especially good times to show the love to our 11 out of state visitors.

Have a blast, GO BIG RED

Eric the Red

PS There will be some great material to discuss after the game, so stop by and share your thoughts.

:cheers
